Verdict: The Anko LD-K1046A is a straightforward 1.5-litre glass electric kettle for buyers who want a visible water level and a temperature-colour display without paying more than the budget-kettle price. Its $39 Australian listing, concealed element, dry-boil protection and 360-degree base make it practical. The limitations are just as important: the minimum fill is 0.5 litre, the LED ring indicates broad temperature bands rather than a selected temperature, and public reliability evidence is limited to four consumer reviews.

If you need a precise temperature kettle for coffee or tea, independently measured quietness, or proven long-term durability, the public information is not strong enough to recommend it on those grounds. For ordinary boiling of several cups, it is a reasonable low-cost option provided you follow the cleaning and safety instructions and monitor the auto-shutoff behaviour.

What the Anko LD-K1046A is

The LD-K1046A is a 1.5-litre electric kettle sold through Kmart and Anko channels and also listed by Target. Kmart identifies the product with SKU P_43324118, while the official instruction manual names the model LD-K1046A. It has a transparent outer housing and a glass inner housing, so you can see the water rather than looking at an opaque plastic jug. A concealed heating element sits below the water chamber.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The kettle sits on a 360-degree rotating power base, allowing the jug to be lifted and replaced from any direction. An external water-level indicator helps you fill it without opening the lid. A ring around the base changes colour as the water warms. Those features make the product more informative than a basic opaque kettle, but they do not turn it into a programmable temperature-control appliance.

The 1850–2200 W rating is the electrical input range printed for the appliance, not a promise of a particular boil time. Publicly accessible material does not provide a defensible laboratory boiling-time, decibel or energy-efficiency figure, so a numerical performance ranking would be misleading.

Does it really have a glass body?

Yes, the product description identifies a glass inner housing inside a transparent outer housing. In practical terms, the water chamber is glass while the exterior also lets you see the contents. The specification does not establish that every visible structural part is glass; the lid, handle, base and trim are separate components. Treat the jug as a glass appliance: avoid knocks, do not place it on a wet or unstable surface, and allow it to cool before cleaning.

The transparent construction is useful when checking the level before switching on and when watching for scale deposits. It also makes cracks, chips or unusual clouding easier to notice than they might be in an opaque jug. Visibility should not be confused with insulation: water and steam inside can still be scalding, and the handle should be used whenever the jug is moved.

How the five-colour LED ring works

The LED ring is a visual cue for the water’s approximate temperature. CHOICE records these bands:

Ring colour Published temperature band
Green At or below 40°C
Blue 40–60°C
Light blue 60–80°C
Purple 80–90°C
Red At or above 90°C

These are broad ranges, not selectable set-points. You cannot use the colour alone to claim that water is exactly 70°C or that it has reached a specific brewing temperature. The ring is useful for seeing whether the kettle is warming, nearly boiling or very hot, particularly in a dim kitchen, but it is not a substitute for a thermometer when a recipe requires precision.

The colours also do not indicate how long the water will remain at a temperature. Once the kettle has stopped, the water will cool naturally, and the ring should not be treated as a keep-warm control. For infant formula, specialist tea, coffee extraction or cooking instructions that specify a temperature, measure the water independently and follow the relevant food-safety guidance.

Capacity and everyday usability

How much water can it boil?

The rated capacity is 1.5 litres, enough for several mugs or a small saucepan. Keep the water below the maximum mark shown on the jug; overfilling can cause hot water to escape through the spout or lid during boiling. The manual’s electrical rating and the jug’s markings are the authoritative limits for operation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Capacity is most useful when matched to your routine. A household making several drinks can fill once instead of running multiple cycles. A person who only needs one mug may find the jug physically larger than necessary, and the minimum-fill requirement means the nominal 1.5-litre capacity does not translate into economical single-cup operation.

What does the 0.5-litre minimum mean?

The published minimum fill is 0.5 litre. That is a useful amount for two or more cups, but it is more water than many single-cup users need. Do not assume the kettle is designed to boil a small mugful below that mark: operating under the minimum can expose the heater to inadequate water coverage and may trigger the dry-boil protection. If you usually make one 250–350 ml drink, a smaller kettle may waste less water and energy.

Use the external level indicator when filling, and check it at eye level rather than guessing from the LED colour. The minimum mark is a functional limit, not a suggested serving size. If you are unsure whether a particular cup or saucepan needs more than 0.5 litre, measure the water first and stay between the minimum and maximum marks.

Handling and counter space

CHOICE lists a 1.31 kg weight, a 15.5 cm footprint and a 73 cm cord. Those dimensions are relevant when positioning the base near a socket and when lifting a full glass jug. The 8 cm fill diameter gives access for filling and cleaning, but a narrow opening can still make it difficult to reach all internal surfaces by hand. Keep the cord away from the counter edge, especially where children can pull it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A full 1.5-litre glass kettle will be heavier than the listed empty-product figure because the water itself adds weight. Place the base where the handle can be grasped without reaching across a hotplate or other appliance. The rotating base helps left- and right-handed use, but it should remain flat and stable rather than being used on an inclined or wet surface.

Using it safely from the first boil

  1. Set the base on a level, heat-resistant, dry surface with the 73 cm cord reaching the socket without tension.
  2. Fill the jug through the opening or spout, keeping the level between 0.5 litre and the maximum mark.
  3. Close the lid fully before placing the jug on the base.
  4. Keep hands, faces and children away from the spout and escaping steam.
  5. Stay nearby for the first cycles and check that the switch releases when boiling finishes.
  6. Unplug before moving, cleaning or inspecting the kettle.

Do not fill while the jug is sitting on the powered base, and do not touch the electrical contacts with wet hands. The transparent housing can make the water look calm even while steam is building, so judge readiness by the normal cycle and the temperature ring rather than by touching the glass.

Safety: what is protected and what is not

Kmart says the appliance has dry-boil protection and was tested to applicable Australian electrical safety standards. Dry-boil protection is intended to stop heating if the kettle is switched on with too little water or runs dry; it is a safeguard, not permission to operate the appliance unattended.

Kmart’s warning states: “Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children. Do not let the cord hang over edge of a table or counter. Follow usage instructions carefully.” Keep the base and plug dry, fill the jug away from the electrical connector, and place the base on a level, heat-resistant surface. Steam and boiling water can burn even when the outer housing looks cool.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Dry-boil protection does not protect against overfilling, a cracked chamber, a damaged cord, a blocked spout or careless handling of boiling water. Inspect the jug and lid before each use, particularly after it has been knocked. If water reaches the base or a plug becomes wet, disconnect power safely and allow everything to dry fully before seeking retailer advice.

Does it shut off automatically?

The appliance is expected to stop heating at the end of its boil cycle; owner reports on the LD-K1046A specifically discuss alleged auto-shutoff failures. Those reports show that automatic shut-off is an important function to watch, but they are not a controlled test of every unit. On first use, stay nearby and confirm that heating stops when the water boils. If the kettle continues heating, cycles repeatedly, smells hot, or the switch will not release, unplug it immediately, let it cool and stop using it until Kmart or the manufacturer provides a safe remedy. Never defeat or bypass a safety switch.

An automatic stop is not the same as a keep-warm function. Once the cycle ends, remove the jug from the base or pour the water as needed; do not leave it powered indefinitely. If the switch trips before the water is hot, check the fill level and allow the kettle to cool before trying again. Repeated premature cut-offs after descaling or correct filling warrant retailer advice rather than repeated resets.

Heating performance, noise and energy claims

The 1850–2200 W rating suggests a conventional high-power household kettle, but wattage alone cannot establish how quickly this model boils. Starting-water temperature, fill volume, mains voltage, altitude, limescale and the cut-off threshold all affect the result. No public source supplies a verified boil-time measurement, decibel result or energy-efficiency score for this model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

CHOICE exposes categories for expert rating, ease of use, noise, boil performance and energy efficiency, but the numerical test results on the accessible page are member-only. It is therefore fair to say that those categories exist, not to assign the LD-K1046A a public score or call it quiet, fast or efficient without measurement.

When comparing it with another kettle, compare like with like: the same water volume, starting temperature and power supply. A higher wattage may shorten a cycle, but it can also draw more power while running. Without an independently measured result, claims that this kettle is faster, quieter or cheaper to operate than a named alternative are not supported.

Cleaning and descaling the LD-K1046A

Limescale can build up on the glass and concealed element, especially in hard-water areas. The official manual specifies a vinegar-and-water descaling process. Use the following sequence:

  1. Unplug the kettle and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Add vinegar and water to the 0.5-litre minimum mark, following the proportions stated in the manual.
  3. Leave the solution to work as directed, then empty the kettle.
  4. Rinse the interior thoroughly.
  5. Boil fresh water and discard it before making a drink.
  6. Repeat the rinse-and-boil cycle if any vinegar smell or taste remains.

Do not immerse the jug, base, cord or plug in water. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth and keep moisture away from the electrical contacts. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemicals that could scratch the transparent housing or damage seals. Descale more often when you see deposits, hear unusual bubbling or notice slower heating, but follow the manual’s cautions rather than pouring cleaner onto the powered base.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Descaling is maintenance, not a repair for a leak or electrical fault. If deposits are inside the spout filter or around the lid, rinse only after the kettle is disconnected and cool. Never scrape the glass with a sharp tool. After cleaning, check that the lid closes, the jug sits squarely on the base and no liquid remains around the connector.

Troubleshooting leaks, switches and unusual behaviour

Why might the kettle leak?

ProductReview.com.au includes an owner report alleging leaking after an auto-shutoff problem. A leak can also be associated with impact damage, a lid or seal that is not seated correctly, or water being poured above the maximum line, but the public owner reports do not establish the cause of any particular unit. Treat any leak as a safety issue: unplug the kettle, remove it from the base, empty it when cool and contact the retailer.

Do not tape, glue or otherwise patch a glass chamber, lid seal or electrical connection. Do not continue using a leaking jug simply because it still boils. Water near the base can create an electric shock risk and may damage the connector.

What if it fails to switch off?

Stay with the appliance during a cycle. If it does not stop at boiling, disconnect it from the socket if this can be done without touching water, then let it cool. Do not repeatedly flick the switch or attempt to repair the thermostat yourself. Record the model number, symptoms and purchase details for Kmart or the manufacturer, and use the 12-month warranty process where applicable.

What if it switches off too early?

Confirm that the water is above the 0.5-litre minimum and that the lid is closed. Allow the kettle to cool before another attempt. Persistent early shut-off, an unusual smell or visible damage should be treated as a fault rather than corrected by adding water while the kettle is hot.

Reliability evidence: what four reviews can and cannot tell you

ProductReview.com.au verifies the MPN LD-K1046A and shows 3.0/5 from four reviews, on the page accessed 20 October 2026. One owner reported about 18 months of use at roughly eight boils per day. Other reports allege an automatic shut-off failure followed later by leaking. These accounts are useful warning signals, particularly for checking your own unit during the warranty period, but they are individual experiences rather than controlled reliability testing. Four reviews cannot establish a failure rate or predict how long a particular kettle will last.

The positive account suggests that some units can tolerate frequent everyday use, while the fault reports show why early checks matter. Neither result should be generalised to every LD-K1046A. Keep your receipt, note the model number and report defects promptly instead of waiting for the warranty period to end.

A leak should not be treated as a cosmetic issue. Unplug the kettle, keep it off the base, and contact the retailer about warranty or replacement options. Do not continue boiling water in a jug that leaks near its electrical contacts or has a cracked glass chamber.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How it compares with alternatives

The fairest comparison depends on what you value. Against another 1.5-litre kettle, check whether its minimum fill is lower, whether the heating power has been independently measured, and whether it has a glass, metal or plastic chamber. Against a temperature-control model, the key difference is that the Anko’s five colours are indicators only; they do not let you select and hold 60°C, 80°C or another target.

Noise is another comparison point, but no public decibel figure is available for this Anko. The same caution applies to boil speed and energy efficiency. Look for tests that state fill volume and conditions rather than relying on wattage alone. Also compare the ease of opening and cleaning, the warranty length, the price at the time of purchase and verified long-term owner evidence.

At $39, the Anko competes primarily on visible water, the LED ring and basic protection. A higher-priced alternative may justify its cost with a lower minimum, selectable temperatures, a longer warranty or independently published performance results. Those are benefits to verify model by model rather than assumptions based on brand or appearance.

Price, warranty and value

Kmart listed the LD-K1046A at $39 and a 12-month warranty when the product information was recorded; CHOICE also recorded a $39 price. Both price and stock are time-sensitive, so check the current Kmart or Target listing before buying. The warranty gives you a defined period to report defects, but it does not remove the need to follow the manual’s cleaning, filling and safety instructions.

At that price, the value proposition is feature visibility rather than premium performance: you get a glass inner housing, colour-changing ring, concealed element, dry-boil protection and a rotating base. The trade-offs are the 0.5-litre minimum, broad rather than precise temperature indication, and the absence of publicly available independent performance numbers. A more expensive kettle may be preferable if you need selectable temperatures, a quieter operation verified by testing, or a longer published warranty.

Ownership cost also includes water and descaling habits. Boiling more than you need can waste water and energy, while delaying descaling can affect heating behaviour in hard-water areas. The manual’s vinegar method uses ordinary household supplies, but any commercial descaler or accessory should be checked for compatibility and purchased only if the retailer and product details are verified.

Who should buy it?

It makes sense for

  • Households that want to see the water level and heating progress.
  • People boiling several cups at a time, where the 0.5-litre minimum is not inconvenient.
  • Budget buyers who value a glass inner chamber and 360-degree base at a listed $39.
  • Users willing to monitor the first boil and descale the jug regularly.
  • Buyers who prefer a visual temperature cue but do not need a programmable set-point.

Look elsewhere if

  • You normally boil one small mug and want a lower minimum fill.
  • You require an exact 60°C, 80°C or 95°C setting for specialist tea, coffee or cooking.
  • You need independently verified noise, boil-time or energy-efficiency figures before purchasing.
  • You would be uncomfortable checking for auto-shutoff behaviour or managing a glass jug.
  • You need a published warranty longer than 12 months or a documented long-term reliability record.

Checklist before and after purchase

  1. Confirm the current model number is LD-K1046A and check the retailer’s current price, stock and warranty terms.
  2. Inspect the glass chamber, lid, spout and base for cracks or damage before filling.
  3. Place the base close enough to the socket that the 73 cm cord does not pull tight or hang over the counter.
  4. Fill between the 0.5-litre minimum and the maximum mark; never run it empty.
  5. Stay beside the kettle for the first boils and verify that heating stops normally.
  6. Record any leak, persistent switch fault or electrical smell and stop using the appliance rather than repeatedly resetting it.
  7. Descale with the manual’s vinegar-and-water method, rinse, then boil and discard fresh water before normal use.
  8. Keep the receipt and model details so a warranty claim can be made within the 12-month period.

Bottom line

The Anko LD-K1046A is a sensible low-cost clear kettle when your priorities are a 1.5-litre glass-visible jug, colour-changing heat cues and basic safety features. Its $39 listing is attractive, but the colour ring is only approximate, the 0.5-litre minimum is high for a single cup, and four mixed owner reviews do not prove long-term reliability. Buy it for visibility and everyday boiling, not for precision temperature control or a guaranteed performance advantage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Anko LD-K1046A worth buying?

It is a reasonable budget choice if you want a 1.5-litre visible glass jug, five-colour heat indication, concealed element, dry-boil protection and a rotating base for about $39. It is less suitable if you need a low single-cup minimum, exact temperature settings, independently measured noise or boil speed, or a long reliability record.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the LD-K1046A have a glass body?

It has a glass inner housing and a transparent outer housing. The lid, handle, base and trim are separate components, so the specification does not mean every visible part is glass.

What temperatures do the LED colours represent?

CHOICE lists green at or below 40°C, blue from 40–60°C, light blue from 60–80°C, purple from 80–90°C and red at or above 90°C. These are broad visual bands, not precise selectable temperatures.

Does the Anko kettle shut off automatically?

The kettle is expected to stop heating at the end of its boil cycle, but ProductReview.com.au contains individual reports alleging auto-shutoff failures. Stay nearby for the first uses and stop using the kettle if it continues heating or the switch behaves abnormally.

Is the Anko clear kettle safe?

Kmart states that it has dry-boil protection and was tested to applicable Australian electrical safety standards. Safe use still requires correct filling, a dry and stable base, supervision around children, and immediate withdrawal from service if the jug leaks, cracks, smells hot or fails to switch off.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why is my Anko kettle leaking?

Public owner reports mention leaking but do not establish a universal cause. Impact damage, a poorly seated lid or seal, or overfilling are possible checks, but any leak near the base or electrical contacts should be treated as a safety fault. Unplug it, stop using it and contact the retailer.

What should I do if my Anko kettle will not switch off?

Disconnect power safely, allow the kettle to cool and do not bypass or repeatedly reset the switch. Record the model and symptoms, then contact Kmart or the manufacturer and use the 12-month warranty process where applicable.

How do I descale the LD-K1046A?

The official manual specifies vinegar and water to the 0.5-litre minimum mark, followed by emptying, thorough rinsing, and boiling and discarding fresh water before normal use. Keep the base, cord and plug out of water.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy the Anko LD-K1046A for inexpensive, visible everyday boiling and its useful five-colour heat cue. Do not buy it expecting precision temperature control, proven quietness or established long-term reliability. The 0.5-litre minimum and the need to monitor auto-shutoff are the main practical caveats.
