Compared to the previous Acer Swift 3 SF314-51 model, the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 offers some slight improvement. Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 is lighter and a bit more compact, thanks to the narrower screen bezels.
This new model also comes with a slightly larger battery. Acer estimates a 2 hours longer battery life than the previous model.
With this new model, Acer has produced a laptop that exceeds expectations. What’s more impressive is the fact that they’ve made it accessible to many by making it affordable.

Acer Swift 3 SF314-52: Design, Dimension, and Weight Review
The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 is not an extremely thin and classy-looking Ultrabook. However, it creates an illusion of this appearance with its thin front view while its body is a bit thick.

You will not get the same MacBook Air feeling you usually get with most Ultrabooks. It deviates a little from the recognizable MacBook Air shape that is common in the PC Ultrabook industry.
On the other hand, the small but noticeable additional space in the laptop is used for a few upgrades. The extra space is used for a larger capacity battery and a few more functional details that enhance better cooling.
At first, you will immediately detect a feel of quality workmanship from this laptop. It has a brushed aluminum covering with polished edges.
Furthermore, this laptop has thin bezels. However, the upper bezel is a bit thick because of the need to accommodate the webcam.
But then, the bottom bezel is the thickest.
The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 is quite portable and light. It measures 323 x 228 x 17.95 mm and weighs 1600 g, making it lighter and thinner than the ASUS VivoBook S15 (361.4 x 243.5 x 18 mm, 1800 g).
Furthermore, the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52’s build quality also leaves a good impression in the keyboard area. The backlit keyboard is a chicklet type with a very soft feel, so it is easy to type with.
However, the Function and Cursor keys have a reduced size than normal. This sacrifice made room for a larger touchpad that is very comfortable and sensitive to touch.

In conclusion, the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 scores a nine in this review for its excellent build quality.
Acer Swift 3 SF314-52: Processor (CPU) Performance
Acer equipped the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 with a quad-core Intel Core i5-8250U. This processor has a base frequency of 1.60 GHz and it is capable of reaching a maximum frequency of 3.40 GHz.
The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52’s processor offers enough power for basic computing tasks and demanding ones, too. This processor is great for web browsing, editing documents, and video editing.
In fact, this laptop’s processor performance is a significant Improvement that enables it to hold its own ground amidst competition. This was confirmed after various benchmark tests.
On a Geekbench 4 overall performance test, the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52’s 15,071 scores surpassed the 13,913 category average. Also, the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 beat the Lenovo Ideapad 730S’s 14,270 score.
However, the ASUS VivoBook S15 came close to this laptop with a score of 15,068.
The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 packs an impressive CPU performance. Therefore it scores an eight in this review.

Acer Swift 3 SF314-52: Memory (RAM) Performance
The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 comes with an 8 GB of DDR4 SDRAM. This memory has only 1 slot that is non-removable.
This laptop offers more than enough power for the average multitasker. It handled 25 Chrome tabs, including two streaming videos on YouTube while I was sending an email.
In an attempt to further test its efficiency, I started editing texts on Google Docs. The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 continued to operate smoothly without slowing down.
However, it started to lag a bit the moment three more Chrome tabs were opened. At this point, the fans had started to kick in, but they were barely loud.

The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 features a 1 TB Serial ATA/600 drive. Its storage options also include a microSD card reader.
This laptop’s drive is fast enough to give an extra feeling of fluid computing operations. Aside from the operating system’s space, there’s still 480 GB for installing programs and saving files.
Furthermore, the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52’s storage drive recorded good read and write speeds on a CrystalDiskMark test. It recorded a sequential read speed of 1147 MBps and a sequential write speed of 1044 MBps.

However, it doesn’t cope very well with graphics-intensive games. The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 barely offers playable framerates with modern games.

Finally, it scores a six in this review because of its ability to play less graphics-intensive games smoothly.
Acer Swift 3 SF314-52: Battery Life and Performance
Acer equipped the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 with a 4-Cell Lithium polymer battery. As advertised by Acer, the battery is expected to last up to 10 hours.
However, when we tested the laptop’s battery, the results are slightly lower than Acer’s claims – although this model’s battery life is slightly longer than the previous model’s.
On a battery test, the Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 lasted 7 hours and 40 minutes with video playback. However, it lasted close to 8 hours on a battery saver mode with a balanced power profile.
Nonetheless, this laptop’s battery life of 7 hours 40 minutes on normal usage, exceeds the category average of 6 hours and 46 minutes. The Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 also lasted more than the Lenovo Ideapad 730S (about 7 hours, 2 minutes) and the ASUS VivoBook S15 (about 7 hours, 5 minutes).
Based on these results, I rate Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 an eight for its relatively good battery life.
