Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Package the plug-ins a user needs in an Eclipse feature, export that feature with PDE, and publish it as a p2 repository when users should install or update it from Eclipse. A ZIP is convenient for a file handoff; it is not automatically an Eclipse update site unless it includes p2 metadata.
1. Identify the language plug-ins and dependencies
DLTK is a set of extensible frameworks for authoring, editing, and building dynamic-language projects. A language implementation contributes behavior through DLTK and Eclipse extension points. That makes the first release task an inventory: determine which bundles and features a user needs, rather than exporting whichever development projects happen to be open in the workspace.
DLTK’s architecture documentation describes an implementation of IDLTKLanguageToolkit contributed through org.eclipse.dltk.core.language, associated with a language-specific project nature. Parser support can use extension points such as org.eclipse.dltk.core.sourceParsers and org.eclipse.dltk.core.sourceElementParsers. These concepts help identify the implementation’s constituent plug-ins; the architecture and tutorial material is older, so verify extension-point and API details against the DLTK target version used to build the release. DLTK architecture documentation and the DLTK developer guide explain the extension model.
- List runtime plug-ins and any fragments required by the language tooling.
- Identify optional features and external plug-in dependencies; decide which are bundled and which users must obtain from another repository.
- Check that the feature includes the intended components and has a useful display name and vendor.
2. Create an installable Eclipse feature
An Eclipse feature groups plug-ins for installation and updating. Give it a stable feature ID, a name, and a version in major.minor.micro.qualifier form, for example 1.3.0.qualifier. A qualifier can identify a build date or build identifier. Eclipse treats a feature as portable by default; set operating-system, window-system, language, or architecture constraints only when the software genuinely requires them. See the PDE feature project documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Ensure the feature references the plug-ins and any nested features required by the release. Do not mistake an exported source project for a complete deliverable: users need the built bundles and feature metadata, along with the required dependencies.
3. Export the feature with PDE
- In Eclipse, choose File → Export → Plug-in Development → Deployable Features.
- Select the top-level feature. PDE recursively includes features contained by it.
- Choose an output form: a directory for an unpacked handoff, or a ZIP archive for a single downloadable file.
- If the output must itself be installable or usable for updates through Eclipse, select the option to generate p2 repository metadata.
- Review the feature’s packaging settings, then run the export. PDE can save the export settings as an Ant script for repeatable exports.
A directory export has features/ and plugins/ directories; a ZIP has those directories at its top level. Packaging also depends on the feature’s feature.xml: plug-in entries marked unpack="false" are exported as JARs, while entries without that setting are exported as directories. Confirm that this matches the runtime expectations of the language tooling. The PDE export documentation describes deployable feature export and its options.

4. Choose how users will receive the release
| Distribution form | What the recipient gets | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Directory export | features/ and plugins/; p2 metadata if generated |
Internal handoff, testing, or a hosted artifact | Easy to inspect; installer-ready only when the necessary metadata is present |
| ZIP export | Feature and plug-in directories inside one archive | Portable downloadable handoff | Convenient as a single file; not a p2 repository unless exported with p2 metadata |
| Hosted p2 repository | Repository metadata and retrievable feature and plug-in artifacts | Eclipse-managed discovery, installation, and updates | Requires a reachable repository location and a correctly published layout |
PDE describes an update site as exported features and plug-ins plus site metadata, served from a shared directory or website. Eclipse p2 uses repository metadata to discover installable software, resolve dependencies, and provision the required software and configuration. See PDE export and update-site guidance and the Eclipse p2 repository documentation.
5. Publish a p2 repository for Eclipse installation and updates
Use a p2 repository when the intended experience is installing and updating the language tooling from Eclipse. Eclipse documentation describes three repository-creation routes: PDE export, PDE Build, and publisher applications. PDE export can generate repository metadata directly. The update-site publisher can generate metadata from a site containing site.xml, bundles, and features; the Features and Bundles Publisher can generate it from prebuilt bundles and features. Command-line publisher applications and Ant tasks support repeatable release automation.

A repository normally provides metadata and artifacts at its repository location. The metadata index is content.xml or, in a compressed repository, content.jar. The artifact index is artifacts.xml or artifacts.jar when compressed. The feature and plug-in artifacts must also be retrievable. When using a publisher option that copies artifacts into the repository, ensure the copied files match the metadata. If artifact copying is omitted, the documentation recommends keeping the artifact repository at the source location. Choose the publishing options and repository layout together; metadata that points to unavailable artifact bytes will prevent users from retrieving the software. The p2 repository guide documents repository structure and publishing.
- Generate p2 metadata with PDE export or an appropriate publisher route.
- Make the complete repository available at a shared location or web server.
- Give users the repository location and state any required base Eclipse version or additional prerequisite repository.
- For repeat releases, use the saved PDE Ant script or publisher command-line/Ant tooling as appropriate to your build.
6. Validate against the intended Eclipse and DLTK versions
Choose an explicit Eclipse target platform and DLTK version for the build. Before release, install into a clean Eclipse instance configured for that target and check that the feature appears in the repository, dependencies resolve, and the installed editor and language contributions activate. These are practical release checks based on PDE export, p2 dependency resolution, and the DLTK extension model; documentation alone does not establish that a particular language plug-in has passed them.

Compatibility is a project-specific choice, not a guarantee that a DLTK release works with every Eclipse package. At the time of the Eclipse Foundation project listing, DLTK 6.4.2, dated 2025-09-10, was listed as the latest release; check the DLTK project page for the current listing when selecting a target.
One example of a project-specific compatibility warning is Lua Development Tools (LDT): its project page says it is no longer maintained, notes testing with Eclipse IDE 2023-09R, and says its older DLTK dependency may require adding an older repository. That notice applies to LDT, not to all DLTK language plug-ins. See the Lua Development Tools project page.
