75UJ6470: At First Glance

LG has been around for a while now and they are best known for not only producing high-quality electronics but also high-quality TVs. They’ve further proven how excellent they can be with the release of the LG 75UJ6470.

The LG 75UJ6470 is an excellent TV that offers a 4K display and amazing features for movie lovers and gamers. However, this television is a bit too expensive.

Specifically, when I wrote this article in January 2022, this TV’s price tag was $2,999.99. For this price, the LG 75UJ6470 offers amazing picture quality and outstanding sound output.

However, does this television have enough features for buyers to overlook its expensive price tag? I know you are eager to find out – you have to read on!

75UJ6470: Design, Dimension, and Weight

LG has been known for producing TVs with quality designs and the LG 75UJ6470 is proof of this claim. To give more details, this television comes with a high-quality plastic chassis with a matte-black finish that gives it a classy look.

That said, for support, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with two V-shaped legs that are made of plastic. Moreover, these legs also feature a matte-black finish.

However, even though the legs are sturdy, they are set to the extreme edges of the television. Therefore, you will require a fairly large desk to place the LG 75UJ6470 if not wall-mounted.

Talking of wall-mounting, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with VESA-compatible mount holes on its back for mounting it on the wall. Thankfully, the back of this television isn’t thick.

As a result, when the television is wall-mounted, it won’t protrude out of the wall and look awkward.

That said, the display of the LG 75UJ6470 is surrounded by slim bezels. These bezels are made of plastic just like the entire part of the television.

However, instead of a matte-black finish like the other parts of the TV, these bezels come with a glossy-black finish. At the bottom bezel, you will see a white “LG” logo finely placed in the center.

When it comes to dimension and weight, the LG 75UJ6470 measures 1696.7 x 66 x 980.4mm (W x D x H) and weighs 41322.2 g. I know this television might be too heavy, but I wasn’t expecting anything less from a 75-inch TV?

With that said, in comparison, this television is heavier than most TVs in its category such as the Samsung QN75Q60RAFXZA and TCL 75S425. To give more details, the Samsung QN75Q60RAFXZA and TCL 75S425 weigh 38918.2 g and 33520.4 g respectively.

In conclusion, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with a decent design as well as thin bezels. However, this television is way too heavy than most of its competitors.

Notwithstanding, that wouldn’t stop me from rating the LG 75UJ6470 a nine out of ten in this design review section.

75UJ6470: Display Features

To start with, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with a 75-inch LCD display with 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) screen resolution. Moreover, amidst many large TVs, the LG 75UJ6470 has caught the attention of people because of its display’s impeccable IPS technology.

In case you don’t know, IPS (In-Plane Switching) is a technology that allows a display to offer excellent viewing angles. Therefore, the LG 75UJ6470’s display’s picture quality should remain intact even when viewing the TV from the sides.

Speaking of picture quality, the LG 75UJ6470’s display should be able to offer decent picture quality. This is because it comes with a 4K resolution that allows displays to deliver colorful and sharp content.

However, despite coming with a 4K resolution, this TV’s display features a poor contrast ratio. To give more details, this display has a contrast ratio of just 1200:1.

In case you’re wondering, contrast ratio refers to the difference between a display’s brightest whites and deepest blacks. Therefore, as a display with a poor contrast ratio, the LG 75UJ6470’s 75-inch display won’t be able to produce deep blacks.

In other words, blacks rendered by the display will look grayish. Therefore, TV shows or movies with lots of dark or shadowy scenes might not be appealing to watch on the LG 75UJ6470.

On a positive note, this TV’s display supports local dimming. For clarity, local dimming is a technique for improving a display’s black levels.

Basically, with local dimming, blacks on a display will look darker than they are supposed to be. Therefore, even though the LG 75UJ6470’s display has a poor contrast ratio, its black level should be decent thanks to local dimming.

Impressively, the LG 75UJ6470’s display supports HDR. In case you are wondering, HDR is an abbreviation for ‘High Dynamic Dynamic Range.’

Moreover, HDR refers to a technique for increasing the dynamic range of a picture – the contrast between the brightest whites and the darkest blacks. Basically, with the help of HDR, different tones of images on the LG 75UJ6470’s display will look very realistic.

As a result, improving the overall picture quality of the display. Moreover, as an HDR-compatible display, the LG 75UJ6470’s display should have impressive brightness.

Well, that is exactly what this display delivers. To give more details, this television’s 75-inch display comes with an outstanding maximum brightness of 720 nits.

As a result, the LG 75UJ6470 will be very appealing for use in well-lit or bright rooms.

Although the LG 75UJ6470’s display comes with just a 60Hz refresh rate instead of 120Hz, it is still very much suitable for viewing fast-motion content. This is all thanks to its impressive response time of 8 milliseconds.

For clarity, response time is the time that it takes a display to transition from a particular color to another. Therefore, fast-motion content like sports or action movies will be a joy to watch on the LG 75UJ6470 due to its impressive response time.

Regrettably, I won’t be talking about the input lag for the LG 75UJ6470’s display. The reason behind this is that I was unable to get an accurate input lag value for the TV.

Just in case you are wondering, input lag is the amount of time it takes a display to register an input. Moreover, an input lag of less than 15 milliseconds means that the TV is ideal for gaming.

Overall, with its display’s ability to produce impressive picture quality, I believe the LG 75UJ6470 should give users that pleasant viewing experience that they crave. On this note, I will rate the LG 75UJ6470 a nine out of ten in this display review section.

75UJ6470: Sound Features

LG has been known to produce TVs with phenomenal sound qualities. Hence, it’s no surprise that the LG 75UJ6470 comes with good sound features and output.

To give more details, this TV features two 10-watts high-quality inbuilt speakers that offer amazing sound output. Impressively, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with a special feature called magic sound tuning.

Basically, with the aid of a magic remote, this feature helps you to select and optimize the sound mode that suits your environment. Thus, giving you an optimum sound/viewing experience.

That’s not all though, this television also comes with Hi-Fi audio sound that allows it to deliver near-perfect sound quality. Hi-Fi simply means high fidelity, which is the reproduction of high-quality sounds.

Moreover, this feature helps to reduce noise and distortion by retaining the quality of a sound when the sound is amplified within the human hearing range. Speaking of distortion, this television’s 10-watts speakers don’t produce much distortion at all.

This was proven through the television’s THD test result. To give more details, THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is a test that evaluates the amount of distortion that a speaker or sound system produces.

Moreover, on this test, any score less than 1% simply means that the speaker or sound system produces a minimal amount of distortion. Impressively, the LG 75UJ6470 delivered a score of 0.326%, which means its speakers deliver a little amount of distortion.

Therefore, even at the maximum volume, distortion on the LG 75UJ6470 will be close to inaudible. Basically, only a few people might be able to hear the distortion when the television is at the max volume level.

However, I can assure you that at a moderate volume level like 75% or below, distortion is totally absent on the LG 75UJ6470. For the record, distortion is the deformation of sound frequencies, resulting in less-pleasant sound production.

In addition to its impressive distortion performance, the LG 75UJ6470 produces crisp and clear dialogue. Therefore, when watching a movie on the LG 75UJ6470, viewers will be able to hear clearly when two or more characters are discussing.

The only problem I have with the LG 75UJ6470 concerning its sound department is that its speakers aren’t loud enough. To give more details, the television’s speakers are only loud enough for a medium-sized/normal room.

However, for a large room setting, these TV speakers aren’t loud enough.

To round off, the LG 75UJ6470 has a near-perfect sound performance. Therefore, I will rate the LG 75UJ6470 an eight out of ten in this sound features review section.

LG 75UJ6470: Ports and Connectivity Features

The LG 75UJ6470 comes with plenty of ports. To give more details, most of the ports are directly on the TV’s back while a few are on the left side of the TV.

Among the ports directly on the TV’s back, you will find two HDMI ports, an RF connector, and an Ethernet port. Also, there is a USB port, a digital optical audio output, and composite video inputs on the television’s back.

Moving to the left side of the LG 75UJ6470, there you will find two more HDMI ports as well as another USB port. Before proceeding, it is important to mention that all of the LG 75UJ6470’s HDMI ports support HDCP 2.2.

HDCP, which also means “High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection” is a copy prevention technology that has been employed on HDMI connections for over ten years. The most recent version is 2.2, which is meant to prevent unlawful copying of 4K Ultra HD video.

Basically, just like any other version, HDCP 2.2 offers a secure connection between a source and display through a “digital handshake.”

Impressively, despite supporting HDCP 2.2, two of the LG 75UJ6470’s HDMI port (the ones on the left side) supports CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). Wondering what CEC is?

CEC allows back and forth communication with devices connected to your TV through HDMI. Therefore, using your remote control, you will be able to control devices connected to the LG 75UJ6470 via its HDMI-CEC ports.

That said, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with an in-built 802.11ac WIFI for wireless connectivity. Regrettably, this television lacks Bluetooth.

Moving on to the remote control, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with the standard LG remote control. To be honest, for a $2000+ television, I was expecting a voice remote or even a magic remote control from this TV.

However, the TV totally disappoints everyone by featuring the standard remote that even cheap LG televisions come with. Well, enough with that frustration, now let us discuss the buttons and features of the LG 75UJ6470’s “standard remote control”.

To start with, this TV’s remote control has a long rectangular shape, just like most standard remote control out there. Moreover, this remote is made of plastic and features a matte-black texture.

Furthermore, the remote comes with a plus-shaped navigation button with an “OK” button in the middle. Above this navigation button, there are two dedicated buttons for quick access to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Also, this television’s standard remote control features volume and channel rockers as well as a full number pad. Although the LG 75UJ6470 comes with a standard remote control, it is compatible with a magic remote control.

However, you have to purchase that separately and it cost way more than a standard remote control. Nevertheless, the joy in using a magic remote is that you will be able to control your TV with motion.

Basically, with a magic remote, you can control a television just by waving the remote. Besides, a magic remote comes with an in-built microphone, which allows for voice input.

In conclusion, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with a lot of reasonable ports. However, unlike most expensive televisions out there, LG decided to include a standard remote control with the LG 75UJ6470.

As a result, I will be rating the LG 75UJ6470 an eight out of ten in this port and connectivity features review section.

75UJ6470: Smart Features

As expected from an LG smart television, the LG 75UJ6470 comes with LG’s very own webOS. This operating system offers a user-friendly interface that is free from lags or bugs.

Furthermore, this OS offers the majority of popular streaming services and apps. A few of the streaming services that come with this operating system include YouTube, Netflix, HULU, and Amazon Prime Video.

Moreover, if you require additional streaming services or apps, you can obtain them from the LG content store. However, unlike the Google Play store and Samsung store, LG’s content store offers a limited selection of applications.

Interestingly, you may stream or share content from your smart devices to the LG 75UJ6470. To achieve this, you just have to install the LG Smart Share app on your smart device.

This application can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for Android users. Unfortunately, this app isn’t available on the App Store for iOS users.

Notwithstanding, you can download the application directly from LG’s official website.

All in all, I will be rating the LG 75UJ6470 a nine out of ten in this smart features review section for its excellent smart features.
