Free For Charity is the best overall choice for a qualifying U.S. nonprofit that wants the lowest possible total cost. Its program says it provides a professionally built and hosted website, a .org domain, Microsoft 365 email, SSL, CDN, and Cloudflare DNS at no cost. The trade-off is that it is a managed service, not a conventional cPanel hosting account.
If your organization wants direct access to a traditional hosting account, start with InterServer and DreamHost. InterServer offers free standard hosting to verified 501(c)(3) organizations, while DreamHost documents one free Shared Hosting plan for eligible U.S. nonprofits. For paid, easier-to-manage options, choose Wix or WordPress.com; choose Bluehost for conventional low-cost WordPress hosting; and consider HelioHost only if your team is comfortable with community-supported infrastructure.
One important distinction: free hosting does not necessarily mean a permanently free domain, professional email, donation processing, premium features, or unlimited technical support. The comparison below separates those costs and limitations instead of treating every “free” offer as equivalent.

Quick comparison: the best nonprofit hosts in 2026
| Rank | Host | Best for | What the offer includes | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Free For Charity | Small U.S. charities that want an all-in-one managed service | Website build and hosting, .org domain, Microsoft 365 email, SSL, CDN, and Cloudflare DNS, according to the program | Less technical control; eligibility, onboarding, validation, and program capacity apply |
| 2 | InterServer | 501(c)(3) organizations wanting conventional hosting | Free standard hosting, email, SSL, applications, support, and the resources associated with its standard plan | Domain is separate, and the site must display a Powered by InterServer credit |
| 3 | DreamHost | Eligible U.S. nonprofits running WordPress or another CMS | One free Shared Hosting plan for the life of the account, email, SSL, and one first-year domain registration under the documented terms | IRS determination letter required; nonprofit-related sites only; renewals and extra domains cost extra |
| 4 | Wix | Nontechnical teams that want visual drag-and-drop editing | Website builder, nonprofit templates, hosting, SEO and marketing tools, and donation or event features depending on the plan | A free Wix site is not the same as a free custom-domain site; premium features require a paid plan |
| 5 | WordPress.com | Organizations that want managed WordPress | Managed infrastructure, updates, security, backups, CDN delivery, support, and plan-dependent plugin and payment features | Usually a paid service rather than a nonprofit-specific free-hosting program |
| 6 | Bluehost | Nonprofits seeking familiar paid WordPress hosting | WordPress-oriented hosting, SSL, email, domain options, migration assistance, and support | The cited $3.95 starting price is dated and not a guaranteed 2026 price; no specific nonprofit discount is confirmed |
| 7 | HelioHost | Technical volunteers, developers, and educational projects | Free hosting with features such as unmetered bandwidth and unlimited inodes, according to HelioHost | Community- and volunteer-supported; not a dedicated nonprofit onboarding program |
This is an editorial ranking based on eligibility, total cost, control, ease of management, and suitability for nonprofit websites. It is not an independent uptime, speed, support-response, or donation-reliability test.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
1. Free For Charity: best truly free all-in-one nonprofit website
Best for: A small U.S. nonprofit that needs a website, domain, email, and basic infrastructure but does not have a dependable web administrator.
Free For Charity ranks first because it addresses more than the hosting bill. The program says it can build and host a professional website, register a .org domain, configure Microsoft 365 email, and provide SSL, CDN delivery, and Cloudflare DNS at no cost for qualifying organizations.
Its application guidance discusses both 501(c)(3) organizations and pre-501(c)(3) applicants. That makes it potentially useful for a newer charity that is still completing its formal tax-exempt process, although acceptance is still subject to the program’s rules and capacity.
How its model differs from normal hosting
Free For Charity is a managed service rather than a conventional shared-hosting account. Its sites are built on GitHub Pages and use Cloudflare for DNS, CDN, and SSL, according to the program. You should therefore expect less direct control than you would get from cPanel, a standard WordPress account, or server-level hosting.
The domain is purchased after the website is live and validated. That onboarding sequence matters: prepare the organization’s content, branding, contact details, and required pages before assuming the domain will be registered immediately.
Advantages
- Potentially no hosting, domain, email, SSL, CDN, or DNS bill for a qualifying organization.
- Useful for nonprofits without a technical volunteer.
- Managed setup reduces the need to configure WordPress, DNS, certificates, and email separately.
- Particularly attractive for a basic informational, volunteer, event, or donation-information website.
Limitations
- You do not get unrestricted server access or the same technical control as with traditional hosting.
- Onboarding depends on submitting content and passing site validation.
- Eligibility and program capacity can affect acceptance and timing.
- “Free” should not be interpreted as unlimited custom development, ecommerce, or a guaranteed service-level agreement.
Choose it when: keeping the nonprofit’s total website cost near zero is more important than choosing your own CMS, plugins, server configuration, or development workflow.
2. InterServer: best free conventional hosting for verified 501(c)(3) organizations
Best for: A verified U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit that already has a domain or wants a normal hosting account with direct access to its website files and applications.
InterServer’s nonprofit hosting program says eligible, verified 501(c)(3) organizations can receive its standard hosting plan at no monthly cost. The offer includes hosting resources associated with the standard plan, organization email, SSL, one-click applications, and support.
This is the strongest free alternative to Free For Charity when “hosting” needs to mean a conventional shared-hosting account. It is a better fit for a technically comfortable volunteer who wants to install WordPress, manage files, configure a CMS, or migrate an existing site without handing over the entire build process.
Costs and conditions to understand
- The domain is separate. InterServer’s free hosting offer does not make domain registration permanently free.
- Attribution is required. The website must include a “Powered by InterServer” text link or credit.
- Eligibility can be rechecked. The organization must provide verification and may need to re-verify when requested.
- It is still shared hosting. It is not a custom server environment designed around a high-traffic fundraising campaign.
Choose it when: your nonprofit qualifies as a verified 501(c)(3), owns or can separately obtain its domain, and wants control over a standard hosting account more than it wants a hands-off website build.
3. DreamHost: best established free hosting program for eligible U.S. nonprofits
Best for: A U.S. 501(c)(3) charity or 501(c)(19) veterans’ organization that wants managed infrastructure with WordPress compatibility, email, SSL, and a familiar hosting dashboard.
DreamHost’s current nonprofit documentation describes one free Shared Hosting plan per nonprofit for the life of the account. The documented offer includes email hosting and SSL, and it describes one first-year domain registration for eligible organizations. The documentation lists .org among eligible domain extensions under the applicable annual-plan terms. See the current DreamHost nonprofit instructions before applying because program terms can change.

DreamHost requires the organization’s IRS determination letter. The free account is limited to nonprofit-related sites, so it should not be treated as a general-purpose account for unrelated commercial projects, personal websites, or multiple outside organizations.
Where DreamHost beats InterServer
DreamHost may be the more comfortable choice for a nonprofit that wants a mainstream managed host and does not mind applying with formal documentation. It also has a clear path for organizations building their own WordPress site rather than requesting a fully managed build.
Important limitations
- The free offer covers one Shared Hosting plan, not VPS or Dedicated hosting.
- The first-year domain benefit does not make future domain renewals free.
- Additional domains and unrelated websites are not automatically included.
- The organization must be able to document its eligibility with the required IRS letter.
Choose it when: you are an eligible U.S. nonprofit, want to manage WordPress yourself, and prefer a traditional provider over a volunteer-run or fully managed charity program.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →4. Wix: easiest DIY nonprofit website builder with hosting included
Best for: A small team that needs to launch a polished website quickly and does not want to maintain WordPress, plugins, server updates, or backups.
Wix’s nonprofit offering includes nonprofit templates, drag-and-drop editing, an AI website builder, built-in SEO and email-marketing features, and tools that can support donation buttons or event calendars. Hosting is included with the Wix platform.
Wix is easy to recommend for a brochure-style nonprofit site: mission, programs, staff, events, volunteer information, contact details, and instructions for donating. The visual editor is usually less intimidating for occasional volunteers than a self-hosted CMS.
Do not confuse free hosting with a free custom domain
Wix’s free starting option generally places the site on a Wix-branded address and does not equal a permanently free custom .org domain. Wix advertises a custom domain free for one year with an annual website plan, but the domain and website plan can renew at regular prices afterward. Check the live checkout terms for your country before treating the first-year promotion as a long-term budget.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Trade-offs
- Wix is convenient but creates more platform dependence than self-hosted WordPress.
- Advanced marketing, payment, storage, and business features depend on the selected plan.
- Moving a Wix site to another host is not the same as moving WordPress files and a database.
- Donation functionality still requires careful review of payment processing, receipts, recurring gifts, and donor-data handling.
Choose it when: ease of editing and a fast launch matter more than portability, server access, or complete control of the underlying software.
5. WordPress.com: best managed WordPress option
Best for: A nonprofit that wants WordPress publishing and extensibility while outsourcing hosting infrastructure, security, backups, updates, and performance management.
WordPress.com describes its service as fully managed hosting. Its platform handles servers, security, backups, updates, CDN delivery, and scaling. Current plans include a free domain for one year, automatic backups and updates, and human support, while plugin installation and payment features depend on the plan.
At the time of the research used for this guide, the Personal plan was listed at $4 per month when billed annually. That is a reference price, not a promise that the same price or feature set will apply throughout 2026. Review the live plan table before purchasing, especially if your site needs plugins, payment buttons, advanced analytics, memberships, or ecommerce.

Why choose WordPress.com instead of ordinary shared hosting?
With self-hosted WordPress, the nonprofit or its host must handle more of the operational work: updates, security hardening, backups, restoration, and compatibility problems. WordPress.com takes on more of that responsibility in exchange for plan restrictions and recurring cost.

That trade-off can be worthwhile for a communications team that publishes frequently but lacks someone who can troubleshoot a failed plugin or restore a damaged database.
Choose it when: you want WordPress but would rather pay for managed infrastructure than assign maintenance to a volunteer. Compare the plan table carefully if donation forms or plugins are central to the site.
6. Bluehost: conventional low-cost WordPress hosting for nonprofits
Best for: A nonprofit that wants familiar paid WordPress hosting, migration assistance, email, SSL, domain options, and conventional customer support.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallBluehost’s nonprofit page positions its service around WordPress, donation and payment integrations, email marketing, SSL, domain registration, and support. It lists plans suitable for nonprofits beginning at $3.95 per month.
That price requires careful qualification. Bluehost identifies the $3.95 figure as a price from September 10, 2025; it is not a guaranteed August 2026 price. The page also does not confirm a specific nonprofit discount. Ask Bluehost about current nonprofit pricing, then check the initial term, renewal price, domain fees, email limits, storage, backups, and cancellation terms at checkout.
When Bluehost makes sense
Bluehost is a practical paid option if your organization wants a standard WordPress workflow and values migration or support options. It is not the right recommendation if the nonprofit needs genuinely free hosting or if the budget depends on a promotional rate continuing after the initial term.
Choose it when: you want conventional paid WordPress hosting and have compared the full first-term and renewal costs with DreamHost or WordPress.com.
7. HelioHost: best community-run free host for technical users
Best for: Developers, students, technically confident volunteers, lightweight sites, and educational nonprofit projects.
HelioHost identifies itself as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit hosting organization. It says it owns its hardware, operates from a professional Silicon Valley datacenter, provides unmetered bandwidth and unlimited inodes, and supports users through forums, Discord, and telephone.
Those features make HelioHost an interesting free technical option. However, HelioHost is not presented as a dedicated nonprofit onboarding program for outside charities. Its volunteer-supported, community-run model may be less predictable for a mission-critical donation site, emergency campaign, or organization that needs guaranteed one-to-one support.
Why it ranks below the other free options
The issue is not simply feature count. A nonprofit’s website may be part of its fundraising, volunteer recruitment, or public-service operation. A team that cannot diagnose configuration issues should prefer Free For Charity, InterServer, DreamHost, Wix, or a paid managed provider, depending on its needs.

Two alternatives that do not fit the main ranking
Project: Website
Project: Website offers free websites to nonprofits through volunteer web developers and commonly uses Google Sites. It is a credible option for an organization that needs volunteer web-development assistance, but it is closer to a service and matching model than a broadly available self-service hosting provider. It may be worth investigating if your main problem is building the site rather than choosing server infrastructure.
OBHost
OBHost advertises free hosting for legally registered nonprofits, including NGOs, charities, religious institutions, educational nonprofits, and community organizations. It requires documentation and manual application, with a stated review period of five to seven business days. It may be useful for international organizations or nonprofits that do not fit U.S. 501(c)(3) programs, but its nonprofit-program depth is less independently verifiable than the ranked choices. Confirm support, backups, data location, renewal rules, and domain ownership before making it the foundation of a critical site.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before choosing a nonprofit host
1. Confirm eligibility before planning the migration
Ask exactly which legal status the program accepts and what evidence it requires. InterServer requires a verified 501(c)(3). DreamHost documents eligibility for U.S. 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(19) organizations and requires an IRS determination letter. Free For Charity discusses 501(c)(3) and pre-501(c)(3) applicants. A nonprofit registration in another country may not qualify for any of those offers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDo not build your budget around “free” until the organization knows whether it qualifies, whether the offer is limited to one account, and whether annual verification is required.
2. Separate hosting, the domain, and email
These are three different services even when a provider advertises them together. Ask:
- Who owns the domain registrar account?
- Who controls the recovery email and two-factor authentication?
- What does the domain cost after the first year?
- Can the nonprofit transfer the domain if it leaves the host?
- Are staff mailboxes included, and how many?
- Does the offer include email hosting or only email forwarding?
Free For Charity says it registers a .org domain and sets up Microsoft 365 email. InterServer treats domain registration separately. DreamHost documents a first-year domain benefit, while Wix advertises a first-year custom-domain promotion with an annual website plan. A realistic budget should include future .org domain renewal and professional nonprofit email costs even if the first year is free.
3. Treat donations as a separate technical and compliance decision
SSL and web hosting do not automatically make a site a secure donation processor. Before accepting money, evaluate the payment provider’s fees, donor-data practices, receipts, recurring payments, refunds, fraud controls, and responsibilities around payment-card compliance.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A nonprofit may need a separate nonprofit donation platform or payment service, even when its website is hosted for free. Test the donation flow on a phone and desktop, verify that receipts arrive, confirm that recurring gifts can be canceled, and document who can access donor records.
4. Ask how backups and restoration work
Do not infer backup protection merely because a host provides SSL, a website builder, or automatic updates. Ask:
- How often are backups created?
- How long are they retained?
- Are backups stored separately from the live site?
- Can a volunteer restore the site without opening a ticket?
- Are uploaded images, forms, databases, and email included?
- Can you download a copy before changing hosts?
WordPress.com explicitly includes automatic backups on its managed plans. For the other providers, confirm the exact backup schedule and restoration terms for the plan you will use.
5. Consider portability before you become dependent on a builder
Managed builders such as Wix can be easier to operate but harder to move. Conventional hosting and self-hosted WordPress generally provide more migration control, but they also require more maintenance. Before signing up, identify how you would export:
- Page content and blog posts
- Images, PDFs, and other media
- Contact and donation forms
- DNS records and domain registration
- Mailboxes and historical email
- Analytics and search-console settings
Keep the domain in an organization-controlled account rather than tying it permanently to one volunteer’s personal email address.

6. Set realistic support expectations
Free programs can require applications, eligibility checks, attribution, annual verification, volunteer support, or slower responses than paid plans. A free host can be excellent for a simple informational site and still be a poor choice for a time-sensitive fundraising campaign.
Ask how support is delivered, whether telephone assistance exists, whether urgent incidents have a stated response target, and whether the nonprofit can reach a human when its website or email stops working.
Hosting does not replace video distribution
If the nonprofit publishes lectures, worship services, event replays, or educational programming, ordinary website hosting may not be the best way to deliver a continuous video stream. A cloud livestreaming service such as 24/7 nonprofit video livestream can complement the website by distributing prerecorded video as a continuous live stream with cloud hosting and automatic recovery. It does not replace the website host: the nonprofit still needs a site for schedules, descriptions, accessibility information, donation links, and contact details.

StreamNeo for 24/7 nonprofit video livestreams
StreamNeo is designed for nonprofits that want to turn prerecorded lectures, worship services, event replays, or educational programming into a continuous YouTube livestream. Upload a video and paste a YouTube stream key to set up the broadcast without treating ordinary web hosting as a video-distribution system.
The stream runs in the cloud while the nonprofit’s PC stays off, so the organization does not need to leave a computer or encoder running around the clock. This separates the website’s role—schedules, descriptions, accessibility information, donation links, and contact details—from the livestream’s delivery.
StreamNeo checks stream health every 30 seconds and automatically restarts dropped streams. A 24-hour 720p/30fps trial is free with no card at signup, giving the team a practical way to test a prerecorded program before committing to a continuous broadcast.

A practical nonprofit hosting launch checklist
- Confirm eligibility and save the documentation. Keep the determination letter, nonprofit registration, and verification emails in the organization’s shared records.
- Choose an organization-controlled domain account. Use a role-based email address and more than one administrator where possible.
- Inventory the current site. List pages, forms, files, email accounts, redirects, analytics, donation links, and integrations before moving anything.
- Build and test on a temporary address. Check mobile layout, accessibility basics, contact forms, page titles, links, and file downloads before changing DNS.
- Test donations independently. Confirm payment completion, receipts, recurring-gift behavior, refunds, and notification delivery using the payment provider’s test process where available.
- Configure account security. Enable two-factor authentication, remove former volunteers, use unique passwords, and limit administrator access.
- Document recovery. Record the registrar, host, CMS, DNS provider, email administrator, backup location, and restoration steps.
- Review renewal dates. Calendar the domain, hosting plan, email, payment tools, and any promotional-price expiration dates before the first year ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which nonprofit web host is actually free?
For a qualifying U.S. nonprofit, Free For Charity is the closest match to an all-in-one no-cost website program: it says it includes the website, .org domain, Microsoft 365 email, SSL, CDN, and Cloudflare DNS. InterServer and DreamHost also offer free hosting to specific eligible organizations, but their domain terms, eligibility rules, and account conditions differ.
Can a nonprofit outside the United States use these free hosting programs?
Do not assume it can. InterServer’s offer requires verified 501(c)(3) status, and DreamHost documents eligibility for U.S. 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(19) organizations. Free For Charity discusses 501(c)(3) and pre-501(c)(3) applicants. International organizations should verify eligibility directly or investigate alternatives such as OBHost.
Does free hosting include a free domain forever?
Usually not. InterServer treats the domain separately. DreamHost and Wix describe first-year domain benefits or promotions, not permanently free renewals. Include future domain renewal in the nonprofit’s budget and keep the domain registered in an account controlled by the organization.
Can I accept donations on a free nonprofit website?
A host can display donation buttons or embed a payment form, but hosting alone does not provide donation processing or guarantee compliance. Evaluate the payment or donation platform separately, including fees, receipts, recurring payments, donor-data handling, fraud controls, refunds, and payment-card responsibilities.

What is the best option for nonprofit WordPress sites?
Choose DreamHost or InterServer if you want conventional hosting and can manage WordPress yourself. Choose WordPress.com if you want WordPress with infrastructure, updates, backups, and security managed for you. Bluehost is another conventional paid option, but verify its current pricing and renewal terms before signing up.
The Bottom Line
Start with Free For Charity if your nonprofit qualifies and wants the lowest possible total cost with minimal technical work. Choose InterServer for free conventional hosting, DreamHost for an established nonprofit hosting arrangement, Wix for the easiest visual build, WordPress.com for managed WordPress, Bluehost for conventional paid WordPress hosting, and HelioHost only when your team is comfortable with community-supported infrastructure. In every case, budget separately for domain renewal, email, donations, backups, and any features that the host does not actually include.
