Joomla hosting is not simply a matter of finding a provider that advertises “PHP 8.” Joomla 6 requires PHP 8.3 or newer, a compatible MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL database, specific PHP modules, at least 256 MB of PHP memory, and URL rewriting support for clean SEO links.
The six providers below cover different priorities: low-cost shared hosting, Joomla-specific management, managed cloud infrastructure, developer access, predictable monthly billing, and sustainability. Prices are introductory rates where stated, so compare the renewal price and required billing term before ordering.
Joomla 6 hosting requirements to check first
Joomla 6.1.2 is the current major release at the time of writing. Joomla 5 remains available but is in bug-fix-only mode, so a new installation should generally target Joomla 6 unless an extension or template requires Joomla 5.
| Requirement | Joomla 6 requirement |
|---|---|
| PHP | 8.3.0 minimum; PHP 8.4 is recommended |
| MySQL | 8.0.13 minimum; 8.4 recommended |
| MariaDB | 10.4 minimum; 10.6 supported; 12.0 recommended |
| PostgreSQL | 12.0 minimum; 14 supported; 17.6 recommended |
| Web server | Apache 2.4+ or Nginx 1.26+ |
| PHP modules | json, simplexml, dom, zlib, gd, and a MySQL or PostgreSQL driver |
| PHP memory | At least 256 MB recommended |
| SEO URLs | Apache mod_rewrite or an equivalent URL-rewrite feature |
Ask the host for the exact PHP minor version, database version, enabled modules, and memory limit. “Joomla compatible” is not enough to prove Joomla 6 compatibility.

The six best Joomla hosting providers
1. Hostinger — best overall for beginners
Hostinger is the easiest starting point for a new Joomla website when price and simplicity matter most. Its Joomla page lists one-click installation, SSL, backups, CDN features, and 24/7 support through its hPanel control panel.
Current U.S. introductory prices shown for a 48-month term are:
- Single: $1.99 per month, renewing at $8.99; one website and 10 GB SSD storage.
- Premium: $2.99 per month, renewing at $10.99; three websites and 20 GB storage.
- Unlimited: $3.79 per month, renewing at $16.99; unlimited websites and 50 GB NVMe storage.
The advertised monthly figure is an average of a prepaid promotional term. You normally need to pay the full term upfront, and the renewal rate is substantially higher.
Choose Hostinger if: you are launching a small or medium site, want a low initial cost, and prefer a beginner-focused panel instead of cPanel.
Watch out: the public product page does not expose the complete Joomla 6 technical matrix. Confirm that the specific plan offers PHP 8.3 or newer, the required modules, and a compatible database before purchasing.
2. ScalaHosting — best Joomla-specific management
ScalaHosting is the strongest choice when Joomla workflow tools matter more than the lowest introductory price. Its SPanel environment includes a Joomla Manager with one-click installation, administrator-password reset, cloning, staging, and backup-related features.
Current advertised plans include:
- Mini: $2.95 per month, renewing at $11.95; one Joomla site, 10 GB NVMe, staging/cloning, SSH/Git, unlimited email accounts, and daily off-site backups.
- Start: $5.95 per month, renewing at $14.95.
- Advanced: $9.95 per month, renewing at $19.95; unlimited Joomla websites and 100 GB NVMe.
ScalaHosting calls its control panel SPanel, not cPanel. That distinction matters if you are moving from a cPanel-based host and expect identical menus or backup tools.

- Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
- Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
- Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.
- From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.
Choose ScalaHosting if: you regularly need staging, cloning, migrations, SSH/Git, or Joomla-focused management features.
3. Cloudways — best for managed cloud growth
Cloudways is not conventional shared hosting. It provides a managed control layer over cloud infrastructure from providers such as DigitalOcean, AWS, and Google Cloud. Its current DigitalOcean pricing starts at $11 per month for a displayed Micro configuration with 2 GB RAM, one vCPU, 50 GB storage, and 2 TB transfer.
Cloudways supports multiple applications on a server, staging, free SSL, server-level firewall protection, and pay-as-you-go billing. This makes it a better fit for a busy Joomla site or several applications than for a hobby site seeking the cheapest possible plan.
Bandwidth overages are billed separately. The current pricing FAQ lists DigitalOcean overage at $0.02 per GB, AWS at $0.12 per GB, and Google Cloud at $0.10–$0.17 per GB depending on region. Domain registration and traditional bundled email are separate concerns, so budget for those services.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Choose Cloudways if: you need managed cloud infrastructure, staging, multiple Joomla applications, or a path to larger resources without managing a server directly.
Do not choose it if: you expect shared-hosting conveniences such as included domain registration and a conventional email mailbox at the same price.
4. InMotion Hosting — best for U.S.-focused support and developers
InMotion Hosting offers a conventional hosting experience built around cPanel, NVMe storage, free SSL, email, one-click Joomla installation, and 24/7 human support. Its Joomla page advertises a 99.9% uptime claim and currently displays a Launch plan at $4.99 per month, renewing at $13.99.

- Capacity Display Variance: 500GB external ssd often appears as around 465GB on Windows. MacOS can show full 500 GB capacity. This is binary calculation difference and doesn’t affect SSD hard drive actual physical storage
- 1050 MB/s Speed: Instantly access to your files with blazing-fast 10Gbps external SSD read up to 1050MB/s and write up to 1000MB/s. LED Light indicates USB SSD instant activity

- Always Fast: No slowdowns for large file transfers. With SLC caching (25% of current available capacity allocated as high-speed cache), this external SSD delivers steady 10Gbps for transfers within the cache capacity
InMotion is particularly practical for businesses that want support by phone or chat, developer access, and a familiar cPanel workflow. It also provides an upgrade route toward VPS or dedicated hosting.
Choose InMotion if: support accessibility, cPanel, email, and a U.S.-oriented hosting experience are more important than the absolute lowest price.
Check the actual regional page and checkout screen before ordering. Data-center location, billing term, renewal price, and included resources can vary between InMotion’s regional offers.
Installing Joomla with InMotion’s cPanel installer
- Log in to cPanel.
- Open Softaculous Apps Installer in the Software section.
- Search for or select Joomla.
- Click Install.
- Under Software Setup, select the protocol and domain. Leave In Directory blank for a root-domain installation.
- Complete Site Settings and create the administrator account.
- Open Advanced Options if you need to change the database name, table prefix, backup location, or installation email.
- Click the blue Install button.
Softaculous may require a separate license on some VPS or dedicated plans. It is not installed by default on every unmanaged virtual or dedicated server.
5. InterServer — best for predictable monthly pricing
InterServer is a good option if you dislike multi-year introductory contracts. Its Standard Web Hosting plan is listed at $2.50 for the first month and then $7 per month on monthly billing. Six-, 12-, and 24-month totals are also published.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe plan includes DirectAdmin, Joomla through the cloud-application installer, weekly backups, free migration, SSL, Cloudflare CDN, email accounts, and a 99.9% uptime guarantee. It advertises unlimited storage and data transfer, but those allowances are intended for normal website and email use—not personal backup archives, video storage, file hosting, or reselling.
Choose InterServer if: you want a clearly stated monthly renewal price, migration help, and a traditional shared-hosting package.

- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
Important Joomla 6 caveat: InterServer’s public technical table says “PHP 8” without specifying PHP 8.3. Ask support to confirm PHP 8.3 or newer, the required Joomla modules, the database version, and the account’s memory limit before installing Joomla 6.
6. GreenGeeks — best when sustainability is a buying requirement
GreenGeeks is worth considering when sustainability and renewable-energy commitments are part of your hosting decision. Its current hosting information advertises Joomla hosting, free SSL, Cloudflare CDN, unmetered bandwidth, MySQL databases, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

What to verify before installing Joomla
- Confirm PHP 8.3+. A host listing only “PHP 8” may provide PHP 8.0 or 8.1, which is not enough for Joomla 6.
- Check PHP modules. Missing
dom, simplexml,gd,zlib, json, or the database driver can cause installation and extension failures. - Check URL rewriting. Enable Apache
mod_rewrite, or its equivalent, before enabling Joomla’s SEO-friendly URLs. - Calculate the real cost. Record the billing term, upfront payment, introductory monthly equivalent, renewal rate, domain cost, email, backups, CDN, and migration charges.
- Test old sites on staging. A one-click installer deploys Joomla; it does not make old templates and third-party extensions compatible with Joomla 6.
Common Joomla hosting problems
Joomla 6 will not install
The most common cause is an outdated PHP version or a missing module. Ask support for a complete PHP information report or check the PHP selector in the hosting panel. Verify the database engine and version as well.
SEO URLs return 404 errors
Enable Apache mod_rewrite and confirm that the site’s rewrite configuration is active. On servers using Nginx, ask the host whether Joomla’s rewrite rules have been configured correctly.

Softaculous reports conflicting files
The destination directory may already contain files such as robots.txt or .htaccess. On a new, empty installation, remove the conflicting files and retry. On an existing website, create a file and database backup first; never delete files blindly.

Joomla was installed under the wrong address
In Softaculous, leaving In Directory empty installs Joomla at https://example.com/. Entering blog installs it at https://example.com/blog/. Do not enter a directory that already contains a live site unless you have a specific migration or overwrite plan.
An upgrade breaks the site
Back up both the Joomla files and database, clone the site to staging, and test the template and every extension before changing PHP or Joomla versions. A host’s installer cannot determine whether third-party code supports Joomla 6.
FAQ
What is the best Joomla hosting provider overall?
Hostinger is the best general starting point for many beginners because it combines low introductory pricing, one-click Joomla setup, SSL, backups, CDN features, and 24/7 support. Confirm PHP 8.3+, the required modules, and the database version before choosing a plan for Joomla 6.
Which Joomla host is best for staging and cloning?
ScalaHosting is the strongest fit because its SPanel Joomla Manager includes staging, cloning, administrator-password reset, and backup-related tools.
Is Cloudways suitable for a small Joomla website?
It can host one, but it is usually more infrastructure than a small site needs. Cloudways starts at a higher price than shared hosting, and domain registration, email, and bandwidth overages may be separate costs.
Can any host that supports PHP 8 run Joomla 6?
No. Joomla 6 requires PHP 8.3.0 or newer plus specific PHP modules, a compatible database, sufficient memory, and URL-rewrite support. Ask the provider for the exact versions rather than relying on a generic “PHP 8” claim.
The Bottom Line
Hostinger is the practical choice for a new, budget-conscious Joomla site, provided the selected plan passes Joomla 6’s technical checks. Choose ScalaHosting for Joomla-specific staging and management, Cloudways for managed cloud growth, InMotion for cPanel and support, InterServer for transparent monthly billing, and GreenGeeks when sustainability is a primary requirement.
Whichever provider you choose, verify PHP 8.3 or newer, the required modules, database compatibility, memory, rewrite support, renewal pricing, and backup terms before paying.
