Free cloud gaming is not one thing. Some services run games on their own servers; others stream from a PC or console you already own. A “free” plan may also include advertisements, queues, short sessions, daily credits, a rotating catalog, or access only to free-to-play games.
Use the first group below when you do not own gaming hardware. Use the second group when you already have a gaming PC, PS5, PS4, or Xbox and want to play it remotely.
Quick comparison
| App or service | What is free | Best for | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|

| Sora Stream | Some free options and trials | Controller-based cloud play | Trial eligibility can change; XInput controller required |
| Steam Link | Free app | Streaming from your Steam PC | You must own and run a host PC |
| Moonlight | Free, open-source client | Low-latency PC-to-device streaming | Requires a host PC, normally running Sunshine |
| Sunshine | Free, open-source host | Hosting your own PC stream | Not a cloud gaming service by itself |

Best overall free tier: GeForce NOW is the most broadly useful option if you already own compatible PC games. Best free console-cloud option: Xbox Cloud Gaming is useful for select free-to-play games such as Fortnite, but it is not a free replacement for Game Pass. Best option for your own hardware: Moonlight with Sunshine offers flexible PC streaming, while Steam Link is simpler for a Steam library.
Best free cloud gaming services without your own gaming PC or console
1. GeForce NOW
GeForce NOW has the strongest general-purpose free plan in this list. NVIDIA lists an ad-supported free membership with access to more than 2,000 games and streaming up to 1080p at 60 frames per second.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
The important catch is game ownership. GeForce NOW usually does not give you paid games for free. You connect supported accounts such as Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, PC Game Pass, or Ubisoft Connect, then launch games you own. Free-to-play games can be played without buying them.
Free members see sponsorship advertising before sessions and normally wait longer in a queue. Sessions also have a plan-specific maximum length; after a session ends, you can rejoin the queue. A payment method is not required for the free membership. NVIDIA’s paid Performance and Ultimate plans have a separate 100-hour monthly premium-play limit, so that limit should not be confused with unlimited free access.
2. Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox Cloud Gaming offers free cloud access to selected free-to-play games with a free Microsoft account in supported regions. Fortnite is the best-known example. This makes it one of the easiest ways to test cloud gaming because you can use a browser at xbox.com/play rather than install a large game.

The broader Xbox cloud library requires a Game Pass subscription. Microsoft currently lists Essential, Premium, and Ultimate tiers with cloud gaming, so “Xbox Cloud Gaming is free” is only accurate for the selected free-to-play catalog.
Xbox supports cloud play through compatible browsers, Windows PCs, phones, tablets, selected Samsung and LG TVs, Amazon Fire TV, Xbox consoles, and some Meta Quest devices. Microsoft recommends at least 10 Mbps on mobile and 20 Mbps on PCs, consoles, and tablets; 5-GHz Wi-Fi is preferable to congested 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi.
3. Amazon Luna
Amazon Luna is free only through qualifying access, primarily the rotating selection included with an eligible Prime subscription. It is not a standalone free cloud-gaming tier that anyone can use without an account or subscription prerequisite.
The Prime selection changes and varies by region. Check the current Luna page after signing in rather than assuming a game will remain available. Prime members who already pay for the service can treat Luna’s included games as an extra benefit, but it is not a no-cost option for non-Prime users.

now.gg runs selected mobile, browser, and some PC-oriented games in a browser without requiring a local download. Open the service, choose a title, and follow its play prompt.
It is a good fit for quick casual sessions or mobile games on a device with limited storage. Do not assume every title in the catalog is free, ad-free, or available in every country. Login requirements, advertisements, and premium prompts differ by game and region. now.gg also should not be mistaken for a general-purpose cloud computer.

5. CloudMoon
CloudMoon is an Android cloud-phone and game-streaming service that lists games such as Genshin Impact, Roblox, Fortnite, and Mobile Legends. Its Google Play listing advertises free access, but also includes advertisements and in-app purchases.
Free use is limited rather than unlimited. Expect possible free-time allowances and advertising interruptions, and check the current app terms before relying on it for long sessions.

NetBoom streams PC games to phones and browsers and advertises more than 300 free games. It also uses subscriptions, virtual currency, and other paid-access methods.
The practical question is not whether the app is free to install, but how much free playtime and which titles are available on your account. Treat its free catalog as limited access, not unlimited AAA gaming.
7. JoyArk Cloud Gaming
JoyArk combines game discovery and community features with cloud streaming for PC, console, and AAA games, primarily on Android. The app is free to download and includes in-app purchases.
Some content may be accessible without paying, but the listing does not establish that every game or session is free. It is best viewed as an app to test for availability in your region rather than a guaranteed free service.
8. Chikii Cloud Game
Chikii streams games associated with services such as Steam, Origin, and Epic to mobile devices. Its VIP subscription offers unlimited access to a curated selection and queue-skipping benefits, which indicates that free users should expect a more restricted experience.
Advertisements, queues, and virtual currencies can affect free play. A reported failure mode is a server-capacity message that prevents a user from entering the queue. If Chikii cannot allocate a server, reinstalling the app will not necessarily fix the problem; try again later or use another service.
9. CATO CloudGame
CATO advertises a free trial, daily rewards, and free-time mechanisms for streaming PC and AAA games to mobile devices. The app contains advertisements and in-app purchases.

- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
Current user reports describe an initial free hour followed by shorter daily allowances or paid time, along with potentially long queues. That makes CATO useful for testing the service, but unsuitable to describe as unlimited free cloud gaming.

10. Limore Cloud Game
Limore advertises PC and console-style games without local downloads or installations, and its Google Play listing says users can play without purchasing a membership.
Availability may depend on the region and server capacity. Reviews mention severe ping spikes, long queues, and sessions that require rejoining after time expires. Test a short session before committing time to a long game.
11. Planet Cloud Gaming
Planet Cloud Gaming is an Android-focused service marketed mainly toward users in India. It advertises PC-game access and says promotional codes can unlock free play for some games.
Reviews mention advertisements, short server allocations, and losing a server slot while an advertisement is playing. Its listing says iOS support is coming soon, so do not treat iPhone support as currently available.
Recommended Free Tools
12. Sora Stream
Sora Stream offers a cloud catalog of more than 500 games, including free-to-play titles and games installed on its cloud infrastructure. Its EULA confirms that some options are free, but trial eligibility can be changed or withdrawn.
The service may ask for Steam credentials to validate ownership of a license. It also specifically supports controllers compatible with the XInput protocol. Do not assume touch-only play will work.
Free apps that stream from your own PC or console
These apps are free, but they are not remote cloud servers. Your computer or console does the rendering. The app sends video to your phone, tablet, TV, or laptop and sends your controls back to the host.
13. Steam Link
Steam Link is the simplest choice if your games are in Steam. Install it on the target device, keep Steam running and signed in on the host PC, and make sure the game is installed on that PC.

For initial discovery, connect the Steam Link device and host computer to the same router. If the stream does not start, open the Steam client and go to Steam > Settings > In-Home Streaming, then confirm that Enable streaming is turned on.
14. Moonlight Game Streaming
Moonlight is a free, open-source streaming client for Windows, macOS, Linux, Raspberry Pi, Steam Link hardware, Android, Fire tablets and TVs, iOS, Apple TV, and ChromeOS. The game runs on your PC; Moonlight handles the remote display and controls.
The recommended host software is Sunshine. Moonlight can launch games detected on the host, and its setup documentation explains how to add a game manually if it is missing from the list. It is a strong choice when you want more control than Steam Link provides.
15. Sunshine
Sunshine is the free, open-source host application commonly paired with Moonlight. Install Sunshine on the gaming PC and Moonlight on the phone, tablet, TV, or laptop.
Sunshine does not provide a cloud gaming computer on its own. If your PC is switched off, disconnected, or too weak to run the game, Sunshine cannot create a playable stream.
16. PS Remote Play
PS Remote Play streams games installed on your PS5 or PS4 to compatible phones, tablets, PCs, Macs, Android TV devices, and other supported PlayStation devices. A console is required.
On a PS5, enable Settings > System > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play. To wake the console from rest mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
Sony requires at least 5 Mbps upload and download and recommends 15 Mbps or more for a better experience. Common problems include NAT Type 3, blocked UDP port 8572, mismatched accounts, disabled Remote Play, outdated console software, and games that do not support Remote Play. If automatic pairing fails, use Settings > System > Remote Play > Pair Device on the PS5 and enter the displayed number in the app.

18. Parsec
Parsec is a free personal-use remote-desktop and game-streaming app for turning a Windows PC into a host. It supports gamepad passthrough, keyboard and mouse input, remote play, and invited co-op sessions.
To host, use Friends > Connect, or select the host PC’s Share button to create a link. Guests normally receive controller permissions. To allow keyboard and mouse input, click the guest’s profile picture or change permissions under the Friends icon.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose a free cloud gaming app
- Decide whether you need a real cloud server. If you do not own a gaming PC or console, start with GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Luna through Prime, or a browser service such as now.gg. If you own the hardware, Steam Link, Moonlight, Remote Play, or Parsec avoids cloud-plan queues.
- Check game ownership. GeForce NOW usually requires you to own paid games through a supported store. Xbox’s free access is mainly for selected free-to-play games. A free app download does not make a paid game free.
- Check the device and region. Several services are Android-first, while Xbox and the major remote-play apps support more platforms. Catalogs, promotions, and availability can change by country.
- Expect a controller requirement. Touch controls are available only for selected Xbox games. Sora Stream specifically requires an XInput-compatible controller, and many PC-focused services work best with a gamepad.
- Test latency before buying anything. A fast connection is not enough if the route to the server is unstable. Try a short session at the time you normally play and watch for input delay, image compression, and disconnects.
Connection tips for smoother cloud gaming
- Use 5-GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet instead of a crowded 2.4-GHz network.
- Pause large downloads, cloud backups, and 4K video streams while playing.
- Place the device near the router when testing a service; this separates Wi-Fi problems from service problems.
- Use the provider’s recommended bandwidth as a baseline: Xbox lists 10 Mbps for mobile and 20 Mbps for PCs, consoles, and tablets.
- Do not use a VPN as a guaranteed fix for regional availability or latency. It can increase delay and may conflict with a service’s terms.
- Use only official app stores and provider websites. Avoid APKs or “free game account” offers that request store passwords outside the service’s normal login flow.
FAQ
What is the best completely free cloud gaming app?
GeForce NOW has the most useful general-purpose free plan, with ad-supported sessions, queues, and a session limit. It normally requires ownership of paid games through a supported store. For free-to-play console games, Xbox Cloud Gaming provides selected titles with a free Microsoft account.
Can I play AAA games for free with cloud gaming?
Sometimes, but not without conditions. A game may be free-to-play, included in a subscription you already have, available during a promotion, or accessible through a limited trial. GeForce NOW does not generally give free access to every paid game in its catalog.
Is Steam Link a cloud gaming service?
No. Steam Link streams from a gaming PC that you own. Steam must be running on the host computer and the game must be installed there. The app is free, but it does not provide a remote gaming server.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallDo free cloud gaming apps work without a controller?
Not reliably. Some Xbox Cloud Gaming titles support touch controls, but many services expect a compatible gamepad. Sora Stream specifically states that it supports XInput-compatible controllers, so check compatibility before starting.
The Bottom Line
Start with GeForce NOW if you want a real cloud service and already own compatible PC games. Use Xbox Cloud Gaming for supported free-to-play titles such as Fortnite, but do not expect the full Game Pass catalog without a subscription. Prime members can check Amazon Luna for included rotating games.
If you own the hardware already, Moonlight plus Sunshine, Steam Link, PS Remote Play, Xbox Remote Play, or Parsec may deliver a better experience than a queue-based free cloud plan. They are free streaming tools—not replacements for a gaming PC or console.
