Cloudflare Pages is the strongest default for coded static sites; GitHub Pages suits documentation and open-source projects; Vercel fits personal Next.js applications; WordPress.com is easiest for a no-code blog; and InfinityFree or ByetHost are better when you genuinely need PHP and MySQL.
Free hosting normally means a free subdomain or a usage-limited platform—not a free .com domain, professional email, guaranteed backups, or business-grade support. Use it for learning, portfolios, documentation, clubs, prototypes and hobby projects. A store, membership site, lead-generation website or mission-critical publication should normally use paid hosting.

Best free hosting sites by use case
1. Cloudflare Pages: best overall for static sites
Cloudflare Pages is the best default for a portfolio, documentation site, landing page, generated blog or frontend that can call an API. The free plan includes unlimited sites, unlimited static requests and bandwidth, 500 builds per month, GitHub and GitLab integration, SSL and up to 100 custom domains per project. The account limit is 100 projects; each free site can contain up to 20,000 files, and an individual asset can be no larger than 25 MiB. See Cloudflare’s plan page and the platform limits.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
It is not a conventional PHP/MySQL host. Dynamic behavior needs Pages Functions or Workers, an external database, or another service. Large video or download libraries may need object storage such as R2. Git-based deployment is excellent for developers but less friendly than a visual editor.
2. GitHub Pages: best for documentation and open-source projects
GitHub Pages works well for project sites, educational exercises, Jekyll sites, documentation and personal portfolios. GitHub Free supports Pages for public repositories. GitHub publishes a 1 GB site limit, a soft 100 GB monthly bandwidth limit and a soft 10-builds-per-hour limit at its limits documentation. Custom domains and HTTPS are supported through the Pages settings and DNS configuration.
GitHub explicitly says Pages is not intended to provide free hosting for online businesses, e-commerce transactions or commercial SaaS, and it should not process passwords or card details. Treat that policy as a selection criterion, not a footnote.
3. Netlify: best for previews, forms and lightweight serverless features
Netlify’s free plan includes custom domains with SSL, unlimited deploy previews, a global CDN and access to platform features such as Functions. The current plan uses a credit system: the free tier provides 300 credits per month. Netlify describes the limit and pause behavior in its pricing and credit-based billing documentation.
A traffic spike, production deployment, bandwidth use or serverless execution can consume credits. When the account reaches its monthly limit, projects may be paused until the next cycle or an upgrade. Older comparisons based only on a 100 GB bandwidth figure do not describe this current model.
4. Vercel: best for a personal Next.js application
Vercel’s Hobby plan costs $0 and provides Git import, automatic deployments, a global CDN, SSL/TLS and DDoS mitigation. The pricing page lists 1 million edge requests per month and 100 GB of monthly fast data transfer among Hobby limits: Vercel pricing.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Vercel positions Hobby for personal, non-commercial use. It is a poor choice for a revenue-generating business that remains on the free plan, and it is not a traditional PHP/MySQL host. Compute, serverless and fair-use limits can matter even when a site is mostly static.
5. WordPress.com Free: best no-code blog
The free WordPress.com plan has no stated expiration and does not require a credit card. It includes hosting, SSL, a WordPress.com subdomain, unlimited pages and posts, basic statistics covering the last seven days and 1 GB of media storage. Plan details are documented at WordPress.com Free, plan features and storage guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe free plan does not include a custom domain, plugin installation or an ad-free visitor experience. This is managed WordPress, not a server on which you can install arbitrary PHP. A custom domain, plugins, more storage and more control require an upgrade.
6. Google Sites: best for simple informational pages
Google Sites is convenient for a classroom, club, event, family page or internal documentation. It is a visual editor rather than conventional hosting, so it does not provide PHP, databases, WordPress or custom server logic. Design and code control are limited. Administration depends on the Google account or Workspace context, and current domain, publishing and storage behavior should be checked in Google’s own help documentation for your account type.
7. Wix Free: best visual builder for beginners
Wix offers templates, visual editing and hosting without code. Free sites generally use a Wix subdomain and display Wix branding. A custom domain and removal of platform branding require a paid plan. Storage, bandwidth, media, analytics and advertising details vary by market and plan version, so check the current local plan page before publishing exact quotas. Wix is a hosted builder, not FTP/PHP hosting.
8. InfinityFree: feature-rich PHP/MySQL practice
InfinityFree advertises 5 GB disk space, unlimited bandwidth subject to policies and technical limits, PHP 8.3, MySQL 8.0/MariaDB 11.4, free subdomains, support for an existing domain, free SSL, Softaculous, no site ads, no credit card and no stated expiration.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Those are provider claims, not a promise of CPU capacity, response time, backups or uptime. Shared hosting can be throttled or suspended under abuse and fair-use rules. Use it for WordPress testing, coursework and hobby projects rather than a business that must stay online.
9. ByetHost: control-panel hosting with a critical upload limit
ByetHost advertises 5 GB NVMe storage, unlimited monthly bandwidth, PHP 8.3, MySQL 8/MariaDB 11.4, cron jobs, FTP, VistaPanel, Softaculous with more than 400 one-click apps and free SSL on subdomains. The page also advertises a 10 MB maximum upload size.
That upload ceiling can prevent large image, backup or plugin uploads. SSL on a custom domain may require manual installation. Disk and bandwidth figures do not guarantee shared-server performance or recovery.
10. AwardSpace: beginner-oriented shared hosting
AwardSpace advertises instant activation, one-click CMS installation, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, a script installer, email support and ad-free hosting. It also states a 99.9% uptime guarantee; that is a provider guarantee with terms, not independent monitoring.
Because the accessible free-hosting page does not establish every current storage, bandwidth, domain and database quota, check the live plan table before committing. It is suitable for introductory CMS work, not demanding WordPress or high-traffic production.
11. x10Hosting: a constrained free plan with a paid path
x10Hosting offers a free x10 Basic plan with DirectAdmin. The displayed plan table shows two databases, three email addresses, an initial 500 MB disk quota and three domains, with community/self-support. The same page uses broader “free and unlimited” language and advertises paid Premium from $3.95 per month.

- 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭-𝐆𝐞𝐧 𝟐.𝟎 𝐆𝐇𝐳 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐝-𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫: Experience power and precision with a state-of-the-art processor that effortlessly manages high throughput. Eliminate lag and enjoy fast connections with minimal latency, even during heavy data transmissions.
- 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫 - Covers up to 2,000 sq. ft. for up to 60 devices at a time. 4 internal antennas and beamforming technology focus Wi-Fi signals toward hard-to-reach areas. Seamlessly connect phones, TVs, and gaming consoles.
Use the concrete plan-table allowances when planning a site. The headline language should not be read as unlimited storage or unlimited databases. It is a reasonable starter for basic PHP work when you may later need more resources.
12. Firebase Hosting: best when your app already uses Firebase
Firebase Hosting deploys static web apps and integrates naturally with Firebase projects. It provides custom domains and SSL, but it is not a conventional PHP host. Current no-cost storage and transfer allowances, billing-account requirements, shared Firebase quotas and overage behavior are maintained on Firebase pricing; verify those terms before launch because they can change and may involve other services in the same project.

- I have HTML, CSS and JavaScript: Start with Cloudflare Pages. Use Netlify if previews, forms or credit-metered serverless features are central.
- I publish documentation or an open-source project: Choose GitHub Pages, while observing its commercial-use restrictions.
- I build Next.js: Choose Vercel for a personal project; use a commercial plan when the application is a business.
- I want a blog without code: Choose WordPress.com Free. Accept its subdomain, storage limit and lack of plugins.
- I need a simple school, club or internal site: Google Sites is usually the least technical option.
- I want drag-and-drop design: Wix Free is more flexible visually, but includes platform branding and a hosted subdomain.
- I need PHP and MySQL: Try InfinityFree, ByetHost, AwardSpace or x10Hosting. Read the upload, database, inactivity and fair-use rules first.
- I need a Firebase-backed frontend: Use Firebase Hosting after confirming current quotas and billing conditions.
- I need email: Do not assume hosting includes it. Static platforms generally host files, not mailboxes; some shared hosts advertise mail accounts, but a domain and an inbox are separate products.
- I need a business website: Skip the free tier if downtime, payments, customer data, support or reliable email would cost you money.
What “free hosting” really excludes
A registered domain
A provider subdomain such as example.pages.dev, username.github.io or a WordPress.com address is not a free .com. If you buy a domain, hosting can remain free, but registration is a separate cost. Compare registrars such as Cloudflare Registrar, Porkbun, Namecheap or Squarespace Domains using current prices at checkout.
Professional email
Website hosting and mail hosting are different. A custom domain does not automatically create an inbox. Business alternatives include Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Zoho Mail.
Backups, support and guaranteed recovery
Free plans commonly provide community support and limited recovery options. Export content, keep your source repository and maintain independent backups before changing DNS or installing a CMS. A free host can throttle or suspend an account for inactivity, abuse, resource use or policy violations.
Predictable high-traffic capacity
“Unlimited bandwidth” on shared hosting does not mean unlimited CPU, memory, database connections or requests. Static services can have build, file, asset, credit or edge-request limits. When a limit is exceeded, the result may be a pause, throttle, suspension or a request to upgrade.

Best Value
- Dual band router upgrades to 1200 Mbps high speed internet (300mbps for 2.4GHz plus 900Mbps for 5GHz), reducing buffering and ideal for 4K stream
- Full Gigabit Ports - Gigabit Router with 4 Gigabit LAN ports, ideal for any internet plan and allow you to directly connect your wired devices
- Boosted Coverage - Four external antennas equipped with Beamforming technology extend and concentrate the Wi-Fi signals
- MU-MIMO technology - (5GHz band) allows high speeds for multiple devices simultaneously
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
Portable features
Git-based static sites are relatively portable because the source files remain yours. A visual builder may not let you download an equivalent site, and hosted forms, comments, databases and themes may not migrate cleanly. Before choosing a platform, ask whether you can export content, move the domain, access the database and recreate forms elsewhere.
Can free hosting run WordPress, PHP and databases?
Yes—but only the traditional shared-host category runs ordinary self-hosted WordPress and PHP directly. InfinityFree, ByetHost and AwardSpace advertise PHP and MySQL/MariaDB; x10Hosting advertises PHP and a limited free plan. Their one-click installers can simplify setup, but resource limits still apply.
WordPress.com is different: it is managed WordPress, with the software and server administration controlled by Automattic. Cloudflare Pages, GitHub Pages, Netlify and Vercel cannot execute normal PHP WordPress. You can export WordPress to static HTML or host a separate frontend that consumes an API, but that removes the normal dashboard, database-driven comments, plugin execution and dynamic forms.
How to publish a free website
Cloudflare Pages through Git
- Put the static site in GitHub or GitLab.
- Create or sign in to a Cloudflare account and open Workers & Pages.
- Choose Create application, then Pages, and connect the Git provider.
- Select the repository, framework preset, build command such as
npm run build, and output directory such asdist, buildorpublic. - Deploy and test the generated
pages.devURL. - Under the project’s domain settings, add the custom domain and verify DNS and HTTPS before making it primary. Cloudflare’s platform documentation is at developers.cloudflare.com/pages.
- Blank result: the output directory is wrong.
- SPA route returns 404: add the required single-page-app fallback configuration.
- Upload rejected: check the 25 MiB individual-file limit.
- Domain fails: remove conflicting DNS records and use the target shown in the project settings.
GitHub Pages
- Create a repository and add the site files.
- Open repository Settings, then Pages.
- Select the publishing branch/folder or a GitHub Actions workflow.
- Publish and confirm the generated URL.
- Add a custom domain only after confirming the repository setting and DNS target in the current GitHub Pages documentation.
- Put
index.htmlat the published root. - Check the selected branch or folder when the site is missing.
- Review the Actions log when a build fails.
- Do not use the site for a commercial transaction or SaaS contrary to GitHub’s policy.
WordPress.com Free
- Create a WordPress.com account.
- Choose a site name and free subdomain.
- Select a free theme.
- Create pages and posts in the block editor.
- Publish and monitor the 1 GB media allocation.
- Upgrade only when you need a custom domain, plugins, more storage or an ad-free presentation.
Traditional shared hosting
- Create the host account and note its inactivity, upload, database and fair-use rules.
- Choose the provider subdomain or connect a domain you already own.
- Open the control panel, create the database and database user if the CMS requires them.
- Install WordPress or upload files through the installer, FTP or file manager.
- Enable HTTPS and test forms, uploads, permalinks and scheduled tasks.
- Keep an independent copy of files and database exports.
When should you stop using free hosting?
Upgrade before the site becomes financially or operationally important. A paid plan is justified when you need payment collection, customer accounts, private user data, daily backups, dependable support, email deliverability, staging environments, higher performance, contractual uptime or predictable usage costs. Also upgrade when a platform’s commercial-use policy excludes your project, when a free subdomain harms trust, or when migration would be harder than moving now.
Recommended Free Tools
Free hosting is excellent for learning and low-risk publishing. It is not a substitute for an availability, security, backup and support plan.
