AMD’s Sound Wave codename has appeared in leak coverage, but the reports disagree on whether it describes a Zen 6 design or an Arm-based chip. AMD has not listed Sound Wave as a public laptop processor, and no confirmed specifications or launch details are available.
Is AMD Sound Wave confirmed?
No. Sound Wave is a reported codename from leak coverage, not a product AMD has announced. The first reports appeared on March 3, 2024, and attributed the information to leaks rather than an official AMD disclosure. TweakTown’s report presented the early Zen 6 framing, while VideoCardz labeled its coverage a rumor.
AMD’s current public laptop-processor portfolio lists Ryzen AI 400, Ryzen AI 300, Ryzen 400, Ryzen 200, Ryzen 9000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 7000 families, but not Sound Wave. That establishes only that Sound Wave is not listed there as a public laptop processor; it does not establish whether AMD has an internal project. AMD’s laptop processor lineup is the relevant public listing.
What does the Zen 6 leak claim?
The initial coverage connected Sound Wave with Zen 6 CPU cores, a possible 3 nm manufacturing process, and next-generation Radeon graphics. Those are leak-derived claims, not confirmed product specifications. VideoCardz specifically cautioned that the process-node information could be inaccurate, so “3 nm” should not be treated as established.

There is also a conflict in the rumor record: later leak coverage describes Sound Wave as an Arm-based design, rather than the Zen 6/x86 chip described in early reports. GeekChamp’s later report reflects that alternative account. The available sources do not establish whether the claims concern a changed design, separate projects, or incorrect leak interpretation.
What specifications and release details are known?
No reviewed source provides AMD-confirmed specifications, a release date, price, or retail availability for Sound Wave. Even the reported Radeon graphics do not establish a specific GPU generation, configuration, or compute-unit count. Treat the following as unconfirmed or unknown rather than finalized product information:

- AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D Gaming and Content Creation Processor
- Max. Boost Clock : Up to 5.7 GHz; Base Clock: 4.3 GHz
- Form Factor: Desktops , Boxed Processor
- Architecture: Zen 5; Former Codename: Granite Ridge AM5
- CPU architecture: disputed between early Zen 6/x86 reporting and later Arm reporting.
- Manufacturing process: 3 nm was reported early, but the source warned that the node attribution might be wrong.
- Graphics: next-generation Radeon graphics were mentioned in leak coverage, without an official specification.
- Launch, price, and availability: not established by the reviewed sources.
Was Sound Wave meant for a Microsoft Surface?
A later report linked the rumor to Surface laptops, but that remains a report, not a confirmed AMD–Microsoft partnership. TechYorker’s account of Microsoft’s announced 2026 consumer and business Surface models says the consumer Surface Pro and Surface Laptop use Snapdragon X2, while the announced business models use Intel Core Ultra Series 3; it does not identify Sound Wave.
Those Surface configurations do not show whether an AMD project was canceled, delayed, or repurposed. None of those outcomes is confirmed by the cited reporting.

How to read the Sound Wave reports
The most accurate way to describe Sound Wave is as an unconfirmed reported codename whose rumored architecture and target device remain unsettled. Early Zen 6, 3 nm, and Radeon details should be attributed to leaks; later Arm and Surface claims should also be attributed to the reports making them. No attributable statement from AMD or Microsoft confirming the codename or specifications was identified.
