Nintendo Switch 2
The current NIS America product page describes the Switch 2 Special Edition as a one-player product in its information block, while separately advertising “2-player co-op thanks to GameShare via GameChat.” Treat solo play as the baseline. The page does not establish that this co-op works offline, so do not assume two-player play without an internet or GameChat connection.
Is Ys VIII single-player, or does it have co-op?

Recruiting castaways
Story progress involves rescuing shipwreck survivors and bringing them to a settlement. Those castaways provide services and unlock practical support for exploration, making recruitment part of progression rather than a purely cosmetic collection task. The publisher’s product material also identifies unique Dana sections, which are separate playable segments rather than ordinary party-member swaps.
Can I change the number of party members?
There is a specific PS4 FAQ answer, but it should not be treated as a universal first-playthrough rule. Falcom says that after meeting a replay-related condition, or after obtaining the relevant double-purchase accessory, you can configure the party-size setting by examining a crystal in Castaway Village. That rule makes Inferno a deliberate commitment. On other settings, lowering the difficulty can help with a difficult boss or exploration section, and raising it later lets you restore a tougher pace. Because the official storefront pages do not confirm the rule for every modern port, check the Options menu on your edition before beginning an Inferno save.
What DLC does Ys VIII include, and is it worth buying?
The meaningful purchase is the base game. The reviewed DLC catalog is mostly optional potions, materials, fruit, bait, accessories, costumes, and other convenience items, not a required story expansion.

- Launch the game again and check whether the save now loads before deleting or overwriting it.
