Editor’s correction: a “YIFY / YTS Proxy List 2024” cannot be treated as a current working guide in August 2026. Proxy domains change quickly, and search results do not provide an authoritative way to confirm that a domain is operated by YTS/YIFY, is safe, or works worldwide.
This guide explains what can be verified about YIFY and YTS, why proxy lists are unreliable, the legal distinction between BitTorrent and unauthorized movie copying, and the security risks associated with unofficial mirrors. It does not publish active proxy or mirror links.
What happened to the original YIFY/YTS?
The original YIFY release group and its official YTS website shut down permanently on October 30, 2015, after legal pressure from the Motion Picture Association of America. No further official releases from that original operation were expected after the shutdown.
The MPAA later described coordinated legal action against YTS/YIFY and related services as involving the unauthorized distribution of movies and television programs. TorrentFreak’s report on the shutdown and its follow-up report on the MPAA action provide the relevant historical context.

That history matters because later websites using names such as YTS, YIFY, YTS.AG, or YTS.MX should not automatically be described as the original official service. They are more accurately described as later operators, successors, imitators, or clones unless continuity can be independently established.
TorrentFreak’s YTS archive describes YTS.MX as an unofficial successor to the defunct group and records repeated domain changes and legal problems.
Why there is no verified 2024 proxy list
Proxy directories and “YTS status” pages are generally self-published. Their claims that a domain is “official,” “safe,” “100% working,” or “updated” do not prove ownership, authenticity, or security. A page can be reachable while being an unrelated copycat.

- Domains change: domains may be suspended, seized, abandoned, or replaced.
- Regional access differs: a domain available through one ISP or country may be blocked elsewhere.
- Copies imitate the brand: unrelated operators can reproduce the name, logo, layout, and search keywords.
- Partial mirrors fail: the homepage may load while search, file retrieval, magnet-link generation, subtitles, or redirects do not.
- Search results age quickly: a page published in 2024 cannot establish availability in August 2026.
The U.S. Trade Representative’s 2024 Review of Notorious Markets identified YTS.MX, also known as YIFY, as a peer-to-peer movie-torrent site and noted reported domain changes and blocking orders. That report covers the 2024 reporting period; it does not verify that any YTS-related domain is operational or legitimate in 2026.
How to interpret common YTS proxy claims
| Claim | What can actually be established |
|---|---|
| “This is the official YTS proxy.” | A proxy-list page cannot authenticate the operator or prove an ownership connection. |
| “This mirror is safe because it uses HTTPS.” | HTTPS encrypts traffic between the browser and the domain. It does not verify the operator, downloads, or copyright authorization. |
| “This link works worldwide.” | Availability can vary by country, ISP, DNS resolver, device, and time. |
| “A VPN makes the site legal.” | A VPN changes network routing or visibility. It does not authorize copying, remove malware, or establish that a site is genuine. |
| “Torrenting is illegal.” | BitTorrent is a communications protocol with lawful uses. Unauthorized copying or distribution of copyrighted movies may constitute infringement. |
Legal position: a proxy does not change the underlying activity
A proxy, VPN, mirror, or alternate domain changes how someone reaches a website. It does not grant permission to reproduce, download, distribute, or share copyrighted movies.
The U.S. Copyright Office explains that copyright owners generally control reproduction, distribution, and public performance of movies and other audiovisual works. It also states that copying or distributing copyrighted works through peer-to-peer networks without permission can constitute infringement. The specific legal consequences depend on the content, authorization, jurisdiction, and conduct involved.
For that reason, “the proxy works” and “the download is lawful” are separate questions. A technically reachable page is not evidence that the material is authorized.

Security risks on unofficial mirrors
Unofficial piracy mirrors create risks beyond copyright concerns. Branding is easy to copy, while a domain’s HTTPS certificate says little about who operates it. Common hazards include:
- Malvertising: fake download buttons, pop-ups, redirects, and browser-notification prompts can lead to malware or phishing pages.
- Credential theft: a fake sign-in or “verification” screen may collect email passwords, payment details, or other personal information.
- Malicious files: a movie-labelled executable, installer, archive, subtitle tool, or “codec” may contain unwanted software.
- Fake apps and extensions: unofficial browser extensions or mobile apps may request permissions unrelated to playing media.
- Network-wide exposure: malware on one computer can attack shared devices, accounts, or storage on the same network.
- Redirect chains: repeated redirects can conceal the final destination and make it difficult to distinguish a legitimate page from a phishing site.
The Federal Trade Commission warns that illegal streaming apps and add-ons can expose banking credentials, payment-card information, passwords, and personal data. The FBI has also warned that pirated software and peer-to-peer files may contain malware capable of logging keystrokes, stealing information, corrupting data, or enabling unauthorized access.
If you have already opened a suspicious mirror
Do not install anything merely because a page says a browser update, codec, VPN, player, or verification tool is required. If you clicked a suspicious link, use this defensive checklist:
- Close the tab and do not allow browser notifications.
- Remove any unfamiliar browser extension or recently installed application.
- Run a full scan with your operating system’s security software and install pending security updates.
- Change passwords from a known-clean device if you entered credentials, beginning with email and financial accounts. Enable multifactor authentication.
- Contact your bank or card provider immediately if payment information was submitted.
- Review browser downloads, account sign-in activity, and installed applications for anything unfamiliar.
These steps reduce risk after exposure; they do not make an unauthorized download lawful or prove that a particular mirror is safe.

Safer ways to watch a movie
Use licensed streaming services, digital rental or purchase stores, local library lending services, or authorized public-domain archives. Availability varies by country, so a service’s own catalog and your local library are the most reliable places to check.
BitTorrent itself can also be used lawfully for items such as Linux distributions, open-source projects, and other works whose rights holders expressly permit peer-to-peer distribution. The important question is whether the specific file is authorized—not whether the transfer uses a particular protocol.

Is there an official YIFY/YTS proxy list for 2024?
No authoritative proxy list can be verified. The original YIFY/YTS operation shut down on October 30, 2015, and later domain lists are self-published and may contain outdated, misleading, or malicious links.

Does a VPN make a YTS proxy legal?
No. A VPN may change network routing or visibility, but it does not authorize copying or distribution, authenticate a website, or protect against malware and phishing.
Does HTTPS prove that a YTS mirror is safe?
No. HTTPS encrypts the connection to a domain but does not prove who operates it, whether its files are safe, or whether the content is authorized.
Is BitTorrent illegal?
No. BitTorrent is a protocol with lawful uses. However, unauthorized copying or distribution of copyrighted movies may constitute infringement, depending on the circumstances and jurisdiction.

Why do YTS proxy domains keep changing?
Piracy-related domains may be blocked, suspended, seized, abandoned, or moved to avoid enforcement. Domain changes also create opportunities for unrelated copycats to imitate the brand.
The Bottom Line
The original YIFY/YTS service ended in 2015, and a 2024 proxy list is not current evidence in August 2026. No unofficial directory can reliably prove that a YTS-branded domain is official, safe, or available worldwide. Avoid treating a proxy as legal protection, do not install software prompted by suspicious mirrors, and use licensed streaming, rental, purchase, library lending, or authorized public-domain sources instead.
