Xiaomi HyperOS 3 was announced in 2025 and its global soft-release schedule ran from October–November 2025 through March 2026. HyperOS 3 adds interface refinements, HyperAI, Gallery changes, tablet tools, wearables integration, and cross-device features, but availability varies by model, region, language, app version, and rollout phase.

Update, August 18, 2026: HyperOS 3 is no longer Xiaomi’s newest headline release in China. Xiaomi’s mainland-China site now presents HyperOS 4, whose beta rollout began on August 14, 2026. The global HyperOS 3 schedule remains useful for checking eligible international devices, but a listed wave was never a guaranteed installation date.

Key takeaways

  • HyperOS 3’s strongest practical changes are cross-device sharing, iPhone and iPad connectivity, HyperAI tools, Gallery improvements, and better tablet multitasking.
  • Xiaomi’s global HyperOS 3 schedule used three soft-release waves: October–November 2025, November–December 2025, and December 2025–March 2026.
  • Xiaomi says rollout timing varies by model and region, so inclusion in an official wave does not guarantee that a particular phone received the update on a particular day.
  • Touch to Share is limited to compatible devices, operating systems, apps, regions, and connection settings; it is not a universal replacement for AirDrop.
  • Gallery, Mi Canvas, Mi Fitness, and Xiaomi Interconnectivity updates may be required even after the main HyperOS package is installed.
  • As of August 18, 2026, HyperOS 4 is the newer Xiaomi software generation promoted in mainland China, but the reviewed China schedule does not prove that HyperOS 4 is globally available.

What is Xiaomi HyperOS 3?

Xiaomi HyperOS 3 is Xiaomi’s Android-based software layer and ecosystem platform for Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO products. HyperOS 3 covers smartphones and tablets, selected Xiaomi and Redmi wearables, and cross-device functions that can connect Xiaomi hardware with an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

HyperOS 3 is not one identical feature package for every eligible device. Xiaomi states that availability can depend on the device model, region, language, system version, app version, and rollout phase. The official global HyperOS 3 feature and rollout page should therefore be treated as a product overview and schedule, not a guarantee that every advertised feature will appear on every listed phone.

HyperOS 3 also combines several kinds of software change. Some improvements belong to the core system interface, while others depend on separately updated Xiaomi apps, cloud services, AI services, or connectivity applications. That distinction explains why two devices can both show HyperOS 3 but offer different Gallery, AI, tablet, or cross-device functions.

What changed in HyperOS 3?

Xiaomi HyperOS 3 focuses less on one dramatic replacement feature and more on making Xiaomi’s interface and hardware ecosystem work together more closely. The most important changes are below.

Are HyperOS 3 animations and multitasking smoother?

HyperOS 3 refines animations, home-screen behavior, window management, and multitasking. Xiaomi promotes smoother visual transitions, more flexible windows, a more polished home-screen experience, and HyperIsland-style floating information.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The visible result will not be identical on every phone. Hardware, chipset, storage speed, display refresh rate, system version, and the device’s available memory all influence how smooth an interface feels. Xiaomi also says the actual animation effects depend on the model and system version. HyperIsland is limited to selected devices and apps, and third-party app support determines which floating-window functions work.

In practical terms, users with a recent flagship or tablet are more likely to notice refined transitions and flexible multitasking than users with an older entry-level phone. “Smoother animations” should not be read as a universal performance benchmark or a promise that every device receives the same effects.

What does the new HyperOS 3 Gallery do?

HyperOS 3 introduces a redesigned Gallery experience with more customizable entry or start-page behavior, improved content discovery, on-device search, and more personalized editing and organization features.

Gallery start-page customization requires Gallery version 4.3.0.20 or later. Xiaomi says Gallery search behavior can vary by language, device, and system version. Because Gallery is an app, some changes can arrive through a Gallery update independently of the main HyperOS system package.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If a HyperOS 3 device does not show the new Gallery layout, check the Gallery version before assuming that the operating-system installation failed. A compatible app version, supported language, and supported device may all be required.

What is Xiaomi HyperAI?

Xiaomi HyperAI is the group of AI features associated with HyperOS 3. Potential capabilities include AI Writing, AI Search, DeepThink mode, dynamically adapted or generated wallpapers, AI cinematic lock-screen effects, image-generation tools, and Gemini Live integrations involving screen and camera sharing.

Xiaomi’s original global rollout documentation gave staggered launch-era guidance for some HyperAI functions, including DeepThink from late September 2025, AI Search summarization from early October 2025, and AI Writing smart screen recognition from late October 2025. Those dates describe the original 2025 rollout notes; they should not be treated as a universal statement that a feature remains unavailable in 2026. Current availability should be checked against the device’s software and app versions.

HyperAI is not a single identical AI model delivered to every Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO product. Xiaomi says HyperAI availability depends on the device, language, region, internet connection, and software version. Some functions may require cloud processing, and AI responses should be checked for accuracy rather than treated as authoritative.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

AI availability can also be affected by separate service or app updates. Installing HyperOS 3 alone does not guarantee access to every AI Writing, search, image, wallpaper, or Gemini Live function.

How does HyperOS 3 connect Xiaomi devices with iPhone and iPad?

Cross-device connectivity is one of HyperOS 3’s most useful areas. Xiaomi lists Touch to Share, sharing with iPhone, Home screen+ for iPad, resizable phone-app windows on iPad, cross-device unlocking with Touch ID or Face ID, one-tap Xiaomi hotspot connection from iPhone, phone-location functions, and resizable desktop-style windows.

These features can be valuable for someone who owns a Xiaomi phone and Xiaomi tablet while also using Apple hardware. They are not equivalent to native Apple ecosystem integration: the features require compatible hardware, Xiaomi applications, particular operating-system versions, and sometimes the same Xiaomi Account or network.

What are the Touch to Share requirements?

Touch to Share requires the Xiaomi phone’s screen to be unlocked and on, with NFC, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi enabled. Xiaomi’s initial published support included the Xiaomi 15T Pro and Xiaomi 15T through an OTA update, with overseas availability excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For iPhone sharing, Xiaomi lists iPhone 12 or newer running iOS 17 or newer. The Xiaomi Interconnectivity app must be version 2.0.0 or newer, and photo or video sharing may require Gallery version 4.3.0.40 or newer. Xiaomi’s cross-device requirements and limitations should be checked because supported models and regions can change.

Requirement What it means Limitation
Unlocked Xiaomi phone The phone screen must be on and unlocked when sharing begins. Touching compatible devices together is not enough if the phone is locked.
NFC, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi All three connectivity technologies must be enabled. Disabling any required connection can prevent discovery or transfer.
iPhone compatibility Xiaomi lists iPhone 12 or newer with iOS 17 or newer. Older iPhones and older iOS versions are outside the published requirement.
Required apps Xiaomi Interconnectivity 2.0.0+ and, for some media sharing, Gallery 4.3.0.40+. The operating-system update alone may not install the required app capabilities.
Regional availability The initial overseas support excluded Japan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Global availability is not universal across every market.

Touch to Share is best understood as a limited, Xiaomi-defined sharing feature rather than a universal AirDrop replacement. The exact supported file types, devices, regions, and app versions matter.

What is Home screen+ for iPad?

Home screen+ lets compatible Xiaomi phones work with an iPad in ways that can include running Xiaomi phone apps in resizable iPad windows and unlocking across devices with Touch ID or Face ID.

Xiaomi lists iPhone and iPad support beginning with iOS or iPadOS 14, Mac support beginning with macOS 12, and Xiaomi Interconnectivity version 2.0.0 or newer. Some functions may require the same Xiaomi Account and the same network or hotspot. App scaling and the number of simultaneous windows depend on the application and device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

iPadOS constraints remain important. Xiaomi warns that an iPad may display black borders, and individual apps may not scale cleanly or support multiple simultaneous windows. Home screen+ is therefore useful for selected workflows, but it does not turn an iPad into a full desktop replacement or recreate the same integration as an iPhone and Mac.

What tablet features does HyperOS 3 add?

HyperOS 3 improves tablet multitasking, split-screen behavior, resizable windows, handwriting latency, pressure sensitivity, and cross-device workflows with phones and computers.

Xiaomi’s published requirements are specific. Handwriting-latency improvements were initially supported on the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro with Mi Canvas version 2.0.6 or newer. Pressure sensitivity requires Mi Canvas version 2.1.1 or newer. Split-screen behavior is limited to tablets that support the relevant functionality.

Tablet capability Published requirement What to check if it is missing
Handwriting-latency improvement Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro initially supported; Mi Canvas 2.0.6+. Confirm the tablet model and Mi Canvas version.
Pressure sensitivity Mi Canvas 2.1.1+. Confirm both the supported tablet and current Mi Canvas update.
Split-screen and resizable windows Supported tablet and app functionality. Some apps or tablet models may not support the same window behavior.

What does HyperOS 3 add for Xiaomi wearables?

HyperOS 3 extends ecosystem integration to selected wearables, including workout-stat casting and related phone-and-watch workflows. Xiaomi’s launch schedule expected wearable features to begin rolling out in September, with the Xiaomi Watch S4 41mm listed as an initial supported model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Workout-stat casting requires a phone running the latest Mi Fitness app connected to the watch. A HyperOS 3 phone without the required Mi Fitness version may not show the feature.

How does HyperOS 3 handle security and privacy?

Xiaomi promotes MiTEE-powered security for interconnectivity, cross-device biometric unlocking, end-to-end encryption, quantum encryption for main-key delivery in relevant scenarios, and cloud-based privacy computing on selected devices.

These are not blanket guarantees that every HyperOS 3 device uses every protection for every kind of traffic. Xiaomi says availability varies by model and software version. “Quantum encryption” should therefore be understood as a protection Xiaomi describes for relevant scenarios, not as a claim that all HyperOS 3 communications receive the same encryption treatment.

Which devices were on Xiaomi’s official global HyperOS 3 rollout list?

Xiaomi’s global schedule divided supported products into three soft-release waves. The schedule applies to global versions sold outside mainland China, and Xiaomi says timing may vary by model and region. The complete official global device list and rollout caveats are the controlling source for international models.

What do the HyperOS 3 rollout dates really mean?

The dates are soft-release windows, not fixed installation appointments. “October–November 2025” means Xiaomi scheduled the rollout to begin gradually during that period; it does not mean that every eligible phone received an update on October 1 or even in the same week.

Xiaomi says the schedule applies to global versions outside mainland China, may be adjusted, and can vary by model and region. Region or ROM branch, carrier configuration, imported hardware, staged testing, and bugs discovered during rollout can all affect availability. Separate app and service updates can also arrive before or after the main system update.

Situation Correct interpretation
Device appears in a wave The device was scheduled for that soft-release period; the listing is not a guaranteed date.
Device is bought from another country The installed regional ROM may follow a different schedule from the market where the model is officially sold.
Device is carrier-branded Carrier testing or configuration can affect when the OTA becomes available.
Feature is missing after the OS update The feature may require a separate app, service, language, region, or hardware capability.
China list includes a model The China list cannot prove eligibility for the global, EEA, Indian, or carrier version of that model.

Why has my listed phone not received HyperOS 3?

A phone can appear on Xiaomi’s global HyperOS 3 list and still lack the update because Xiaomi releases firmware gradually and uses different regional branches. Xiaomi expressly says timing may vary by model and region and that its schedule can change.

  1. Confirm the exact model name and the region or ROM branch installed on the phone.
  2. Check whether the phone was imported or purchased through a carrier.
  3. Install pending system-app updates.
  4. Make sure the phone has sufficient storage and battery charge.
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi and check again later.
  6. Do not install an unofficial firmware package merely because another region has received the update.

Manually flashing a different regional ROM can cause data loss, bootloader complications, banking-app problems, warranty concerns, and regional compatibility issues. An official OTA offered for the exact device and region is the safer route.

How do you check for HyperOS 3?

Use the device’s built-in software updater rather than a firmware package from an unofficial source.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Open the system software update area. The exact label and location can vary by region, language, and current HyperOS build.
  3. Check the installed HyperOS version and build number.
  4. Select Check for updates.
  5. Install only the official OTA package offered for that device and region.
  6. Afterward, update Xiaomi system apps through the system app updater or Xiaomi app store where applicable.

If a feature remains missing, check the versions of Gallery, Mi Fitness, Xiaomi Interconnectivity, Mi Canvas, Themes, and any other app named in the feature requirement. A system update and an app update are not always delivered together.

Why is a HyperOS 3 feature missing after installation?

A missing feature usually reflects a compatibility or availability condition rather than a failed installation. The most common causes are an unsupported chipset or model, unsupported language or country, an outdated companion app, a separate service rollout, no internet connection for an AI function, or a change or delay in Xiaomi’s availability plan.

Is HyperOS 3 still the latest Xiaomi software?

No—not as a blanket statement on August 18, 2026. Xiaomi’s mainland-China site now presents HyperOS 4, with beta distribution beginning on August 14, 2026. The listed HyperOS 4 beta devices include Xiaomi 17-series phones, Redmi K90 models, and Xiaomi Pad 8 devices.

The HyperOS 4 information reviewed here is China-specific. It does not establish that HyperOS 4 is globally available, nor does it replace Xiaomi’s global HyperOS 3 schedule for international models. Global, EEA, Indian, carrier, and mainland-China software programs can differ.

The safest current wording is: HyperOS 3 was announced in 2025 and rolled out globally through a schedule ending in March 2026, while HyperOS 4 is the newer Xiaomi headline release in China as of August 2026. See Xiaomi’s mainland-China HyperOS site for the China-specific HyperOS 4 program.

Should you buy a phone for HyperOS 3 in August 2026?

Do not buy an older phone solely to obtain HyperOS 3 in August 2026. HyperOS 3 is an established software baseline, and a new buyer should evaluate the exact model’s future software support, regional availability, warranty, carrier compatibility, hardware, and likely eligibility for newer HyperOS releases.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

HyperOS 3 is most valuable to buyers who already use several Xiaomi products, want a Xiaomi phone with a Xiaomi tablet or wearable, use an iPhone, iPad, or Mac alongside Xiaomi hardware, multitask frequently on a tablet, or want the HyperAI tools available in their language and region.

HyperOS 3 may feel less transformative on an older or entry-level phone, for someone who does not use Xiaomi ecosystem products, or for a buyer who primarily wants a stock-Android interface or a clearly defined long-term security-update commitment. Lower-cost Redmi and POCO models may not support the complete HyperAI, animation, display, or cross-device feature set.

Buyer priority Best fit to investigate Reason and caution
Fullest Xiaomi ecosystem experience Current Xiaomi flagship phone More likely to receive premium features; verify the exact regional model and future update policy.
Phone-plus-tablet workflow Current Xiaomi tablet with a compatible Xiaomi phone Useful for Home screen+, multitasking, and pen features; app and device support still varies.
Lower-cost access to HyperOS Redmi phone Can offer lower-cost entry; feature support is more dependent on model and region.
Performance and gaming value POCO phone Chipset value may be attractive; camera, premium ecosystem, and software polish may be less important priorities.
Simple Android updates Google Pixel Offers a cleaner Google-oriented experience, but not Xiaomi-specific phone-to-tablet or wearable integration.
Broad US carrier and device ecosystem Samsung Galaxy Offers an alternative phone, tablet, watch, and Windows ecosystem, but not HyperOS features.
Native phone, tablet, and computer integration Apple iPhone and iPad Apple provides deeper native integration; Xiaomi’s Apple connectivity requires apps and has compatibility limits.

Current prices, discounts, trade-in values, financing, and country-specific availability were not established by the HyperOS sources used for this article. Check the relevant country’s official Xiaomi store, official Xiaomi tablet store, official Redmi store, or official POCO store before buying. HyperOS is an operating-system update, not a separately purchased subscription.

Global and China rollout: why the distinction matters

Xiaomi publishes separate regional software programs. A mainland-China ROM, global ROM, EEA ROM, Indian ROM, and carrier-customized build may not receive identical firmware at the same time or expose identical features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A China schedule cannot be substituted for a global schedule. Conversely, a phone listed on Xiaomi’s global page should be checked against the global or regional software branch installed on that phone. This distinction is especially important for imported devices, whose hardware model may look eligible while its installed ROM follows another program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Was Xiaomi HyperOS 3 announced in 2025 or 2026?

Xiaomi HyperOS 3 was announced and began its global rollout in 2025, with Xiaomi’s official global schedule using soft-release waves from October–November 2025 through March 2026. HyperOS 3 should not be described as a new August 2026 announcement.

Does every phone on Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 list receive the update on the listed date?

No. Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 dates are soft-release windows, not guaranteed installation dates. Model, region, ROM branch, carrier configuration, staged testing, and rollout changes can affect when an eligible phone receives the OTA.

Is HyperOS 3 based on Android 16?

There is no single universal Android-base statement for every HyperOS 3 device in the official global material used here. Android-version claims should be checked against the exact device’s Xiaomi changelog or announcement rather than generalized across the HyperOS 3 list.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is HyperOS 4 globally available?

The reviewed Xiaomi source confirms a mainland-China HyperOS 4 beta program beginning August 14, 2026, but it does not establish a global HyperOS 4 rollout. Global availability must be confirmed through Xiaomi’s regional software announcements.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: HyperOS 3’s biggest improvements are ecosystem connectivity, HyperAI, Gallery changes, tablet multitasking, and selected wearable features. Its main weakness is fragmentation: hardware, region, language, app version, and rollout phase determine what each device actually receives. Xiaomi’s official global schedule ran through March 2026, while HyperOS 4 is now the newer headline release in mainland China. In August 2026, treat HyperOS 3 as a useful existing feature baseline—not the main reason to buy an older device.
