Microsoft’s standard disc-based Xbox Series X is listed at CAD $999.99 in the Canadian Microsoft Store as of October 27, 2026. That is CAD $400 more than the console’s CAD $599.99 launch ERP in 2020—an increase of about 66.7%.
The “$1,000 CAD” description is a rounded version of the official $999.99 price. It is a record high for the standard Series X listing, but not the highest price of every Series X edition: Microsoft also lists an Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition at CAD $1,149.99.
How much did the Xbox Series X price increase in Canada?
The standard Xbox Series X rose from CAD $599.99 at launch to CAD $999.99 on Microsoft’s Canadian storefront. The nominal increase is CAD $400, calculated against the Canadian launch ERP announced by Xbox Canada on September 9, 2020.

Is CAD $999.99 a record-breaking Xbox Series X price?
It is a record high for the standard Series X model’s Canadian listing in the evidence available here, but “highest Xbox price ever” would be inaccurate. Microsoft’s catalog separately lists an Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition at CAD $1,149.99.
The limited edition is a different, collectible product. Keeping it separate matters because the $999.99 figure describes the regular 1TB console with a disc drive, not every Series X-branded release or every retailer’s price.
Why did the Xbox Series X price go up in Canada?
Microsoft attributed its 2026 worldwide price update to higher component costs. In a June 25, 2026 Xbox Wire announcement, Team Xbox said: “Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x, and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027.”

The same announcement described a broader consumer-electronics components crisis and said consoles are typically sold for less than their manufacturing cost. Those are Microsoft’s stated reasons, not independently audited cost figures. The announcement specified a US$150 increase for 1TB models worldwide, but it did not publish the final Canadian-dollar amount. The Canadian storefront’s CAD $999.99 listing is therefore the appropriate figure for shoppers in Canada.
What does the CAD $999.99 standard Series X include?
The standard model is a 1TB console with a custom solid-state drive, a 4K UHD Blu-ray drive, support for up to 120 frames per second, and one Xbox Wireless Controller, according to Microsoft’s product listing. Its disc drive lets owners use physical games and 4K Blu-ray discs; the digital editions below cannot read discs.
- Storage: 1TB custom SSD
- Video and performance target: 4K gaming capability and up to 120 FPS, where supported by the game, display and settings
- Optical drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray
- In the box: one Xbox Wireless Controller
Should you buy the $999.99 disc model or a digital edition?
The decision mainly depends on whether you need physical media, higher performance and the ability to play disc-based games. Microsoft’s Canadian listings provide several distinct price and capability trade-offs.

| Model | Canadian list price checked | Key trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X, 1TB disc | CAD $999.99 | Highest standard performance tier, 1TB SSD and 4K UHD Blu-ray drive |
| Xbox Series X, 1TB Digital Edition | CAD $949.99 | CAD $50 less, but no disc drive |
| Xbox Series S, 1TB | CAD $749.99 | More affordable and digital-only, but a lower performance tier |
| Xbox Series S, 512GB | CAD $649.99 | Lowest listed price, with less storage and lower performance than Series X |
| Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition | CAD $1,149.99 | Separate limited edition priced above the standard Series X |
Choose the disc-based Series X if you use physical games
Paying the extra CAD $50 over the 1TB Digital Edition preserves access to discs and 4K UHD Blu-ray playback. It also avoids making a future switch from physical purchases to digital-only buying.
Choose the digital Series X if you want Series X performance without discs
The 1TB Digital Edition is CAD $949.99 on the cited Canadian listings. It saves CAD $50 while retaining the Series X performance tier, but physical Xbox game discs and movie discs are not usable.
Choose Series S if price and compact digital access matter most
The 512GB and 1TB Series S models cost less than either Series X listing. They are digital-only and occupy a lower performance tier, so the lower price should not be interpreted as equivalent graphics capability.

What should Canadian buyers budget beyond the console?
The list price covers the console and one controller, but a complete setup may require other purchases. A display capable of the desired resolution and refresh rate is necessary to make use of higher output modes. Multiplayer households may also need a second Xbox Wireless Controller.
Storage is another consideration. Microsoft recommends the 1TB Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S. Compatibility should be confirmed before buying, and its cost is separate from the console’s CAD $999.99 price. Games, subscriptions, accessories and any applicable checkout charges likewise sit outside the hardware list price.

Xbox Canada announced the CAD $599.99 ERP on September 9, 2020, ahead of the November 10 launch. Microsoft then announced a worldwide console price update on June 25, 2026, effective August 1, 2026. A Canadian report published during the pre-change period cited CAD $729.99 for the 1TB disc model and CAD $679.99 for the Digital Edition, but those were earlier prices and not the current post-change Canadian listings.

Because Microsoft’s announcement expressed the 1TB increase in US dollars, it should not be converted directly into an exact Canadian hike. Exchange rates, regional pricing and the final Canadian storefront listing determine the CAD amount.
Frequently Asked Questions
Was the Xbox Series X really CAD $599.99 at launch in Canada?
Yes. Xbox Canada announced a CAD $599.99 ERP for the standard console on September 9, 2020, with availability beginning November 10, 2020. That is the official launch reference used for the increase calculation.
Is the CAD $999.99 price before or after a sale discount?
CAD $999.99 is the Microsoft Store Canada list price checked October 27, 2026. Retailer promotions, bundles or temporary discounts can differ, so shoppers should verify the checkout price and seller at the time of purchase.
Does the Xbox Series X Digital Edition play game discs?
No. The 1TB Digital Edition is listed without a disc drive. Physical Xbox games and 4K Blu-ray discs require the standard disc-based Series X or another compatible console.
Why is the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition more expensive?
Microsoft lists it as a separate limited edition at CAD $1,149.99. Its higher price is why the standard model’s CAD $999.99 listing should be described as a record for the regular Series X, not every edition.
