Xbox Game Pass is a recurring subscription with four US plans: Essential at $9.99 per month, Premium at $14.99, Ultimate at $22.99, and PC Game Pass at $13.99. Essential, Premium, and Ultimate include cloud gaming. Xbox has announced that, beginning in November 2026, those tiers will receive 5, 10, and 15 cloud-gaming hours per month respectively. The exact implementation date, prices for extra hours, and purchase rules had not been published when the announcement was checked.
Your best plan depends on where you play, the games you need, whether you want online console multiplayer, how much cloud gaming you expect to use, and whether bundled services such as EA Play or Ubisoft+ Classics matter to you. Game counts and availability change by region, platform, tier, and date, so verify individual titles in the live catalog before subscribing.
What is Xbox Game Pass?
Xbox Game Pass is a subscription that provides access to a changing library of games and, depending on the tier, cloud gaming, online console multiplayer, launch-window releases, and partner benefits. The subscription continues automatically until you cancel it through your Microsoft account. A plan gives you access to the games and services listed for that tier; it does not turn every Xbox, PC, or cloud title into a permanent purchase.

The official US pages currently describe four plans. Their headline catalog sizes are approximate page claims rather than fixed guarantees: Essential lists 50-plus games, Premium 200-plus, Ultimate 500-plus, and PC Game Pass 300-plus. Xbox warns that titles, features, supported platforms, and availability vary over time and by region.

For a title-level check, use the Xbox Game Pass catalog and filter by plan and platform. That check is more reliable than assuming a game is included because it appears in a marketing count or in another country’s catalog.
Which Xbox Game Pass plans are available in the US?
The following are the monthly prices and inclusions shown on the US plan pages accessed in 2026. Prices are recurring US listings, not one-time totals; promotional offers can be limited and may not apply to every member.
| Plan | Listed US price | Headline catalog | Main inclusions | Cloud gaming |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $9.99/month | 50+ games | Online console multiplayer, in-game benefits, and rewards. The page gives examples including Stardew Valley, Fallout 4, and Deep Rock Galactic. | Yes; 5 hours/month announced for November 2026 |
| Premium | $14.99/month | 200+ games | Online console multiplayer, in-game benefits, rewards, and selected new Xbox-published games within one year of launch. | Yes; 10 hours/month announced for November 2026 |
| Ultimate | $22.99/month | 500+ games | Selected day-one releases, online console multiplayer, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics, and other benefits. | Yes; 15 hours/month announced for November 2026 |
| PC Game Pass | $13.99/month | 300+ PC games | PC catalog, selected day-one releases, and EA Play. | The listed page describes PC play and does not list the cloud benefit provided by the three other tiers. |
Official pages: Essential, Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass.
What does each plan include?
Essential
Essential is the lowest-cost option for someone who wants a smaller catalog, online multiplayer on console, and occasional cloud play. It includes the benefits and rewards listed on the plan page, but its 50-plus-game claim is not a promise that every example will remain available. It is a practical fit when the games you actually play are in the Essential catalog and you do not need launch-day access or the larger partner bundles.
Premium
Premium expands the catalog to 200-plus games and adds cloud gaming and online console multiplayer. Its distinctive timing promise is that selected new Xbox-published games join within one year of launch, rather than necessarily on release day. That wording matters: it is a maximum timing description for selected titles, not a guarantee covering every Xbox-published game.
Ultimate
Ultimate is the broadest bundle. The US listing combines a 500-plus-game catalog with selected day-one releases, online console multiplayer, cloud gaming, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. Each service has its own catalog and terms, so inclusion of a benefit does not mean every game from that publisher is in the main Game Pass library or can be streamed.
Ultimate’s day-one wording is selective and specifically excludes Call of Duty titles. Xbox’s April 21, 2026 announcement says future Call of Duty games will no longer enter Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch; Xbox said they are expected to be added during the following holiday season, roughly a year later. Existing Call of Duty games already in the library would remain available. Read the announcement at Xbox Wire.

PC Game Pass is designed for Windows PC players. Its listed benefits are a 300-plus-game PC catalog, selected day-one releases, and EA Play. The US page does not list the cloud benefit available on Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, so choose one of those tiers if streaming games is a central requirement.

Does Xbox Game Pass include cloud gaming?
Yes, according to the official pages checked, cloud gaming is included with Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. PC Game Pass is presented as a PC-focused subscription and is not listed with that cloud benefit.
Xbox announced a change to the amount of included cloud play. Beginning in November 2026, Essential will include 5 hours per month, Premium 10 hours, and Ultimate 15 hours. Xbox says additional playtime will be purchasable through the Xbox Store after the included hours are used, but it had not yet published the extra-hour prices, exact purchase options, or final implementation details. Availability and features may also vary by market. Do not treat the older description of unlimited cloud play in the December 2025 getting-started guide as the current allowance after this announced change.
Xbox estimates that the change will affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. That is Xbox’s own 2026 estimate; the announcement provides no independent measurement or methodology. Team Xbox acknowledged the impact on frequent cloud players: “We recognize that introducing limits is a meaningful change, particularly for players who regularly spend more time gaming through the cloud.” The announcement is at Xbox Wire.

Which plan should you choose?
Choose by matching the subscription to your primary device and the games you will actually play, not by picking the largest number in a catalog badge.
Choose Essential if you need the lowest recurring price
- You mainly play on an Xbox console.
- You need online console multiplayer.
- Your preferred games appear in the Essential catalog.
- You expect only occasional cloud sessions and can work within the announced five-hour monthly allowance.
Choose Premium if you want a larger console catalog
- You want more than the Essential selection without paying for the Ultimate bundle.
- You value selected Xbox-published games arriving within one year of launch.
- You want cloud gaming and online console multiplayer, with a 10-hour monthly allowance announced for November 2026.
Choose Ultimate for the broadest bundle
- You want the largest listed catalog and selected day-one releases.
- You will use EA Play, Fortnite Crew, or Ubisoft+ Classics enough to justify the higher price.
- You need the highest announced cloud allowance among the three cloud-enabled plans: 15 hours per month from November 2026.
- You understand that selected day-one does not include future Call of Duty launches.
Choose PC Game Pass for Windows PC gaming
- Your main device is a Windows PC.
- You want the PC catalog, selected day-one releases, and EA Play.
- You do not require the cloud benefit listed on Essential, Premium, and Ultimate.
Before subscribing, write down three or four games you intend to play, then verify each in the live catalog for your country, device, and proposed tier. A cheaper plan that contains your actual games can be better value than a larger plan whose headline count you rarely use.
What games and release timing are included?
Game Pass catalogs are dynamic. Xbox’s 50-plus, 200-plus, 300-plus, and 500-plus figures describe the approximate size shown on the respective pages when accessed, not a permanent library. Games can vary by region, platform, plan, date, and licensing status.
Ultimate and PC Game Pass list selected day-one releases. Premium promises selected new Xbox-published games within one year of launch. These are selective benefits: neither statement means every first-party release or every new game arrives on day one. Future Call of Duty games are a specific exclusion from day-one additions under the April 2026 announcement, while existing Call of Duty titles already in the library remain available.

EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics are bundled benefits on Ultimate, and EA Play is listed with PC Game Pass. A bundle gives you access under the applicable service’s rules; it is not a guarantee that the entire publisher catalog is part of Game Pass, that every included title is available on every platform, or that each title supports cloud streaming.
How do you check whether a specific game is included?
- Open the live Xbox Game Pass catalog.
- Search for the exact game name rather than relying on a franchise or publisher page.
- Use the plan and platform filters to match the subscription and device you intend to use.
- Open the game’s detail page and check whether it is included, requires a separate purchase, or is available only through a bundled service.
- For cloud play, confirm that the game has a cloud-enabled option in your region. Ownership of a game outside the catalog does not automatically mean it can be streamed.
Repeat this check immediately before subscribing or installing. Catalog status can change after an article, video, or store listing was published.
What devices can use Xbox cloud gaming?
Xbox describes cloud play on compatible internet-connected devices, including Xbox One and later consoles, Windows PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, gaming handhelds, Steam Deck (described as beta in the December 2025 guide), and Android phones and tablets. Operating-system versions, supported-country lists, and device support can change, so treat that guide as background rather than a permanent compatibility list. Availability depends on supported regions.
The December 2025 guide also describes multiple controller and input options. A compatible Xbox controller is an optional accessory for many setups, but compatibility depends on the device, browser or app, and game. Verify support for your exact combination before buying hardware; Xbox does not establish one controller model as universal.
How do you start a cloud-gaming session?
- Confirm that your country or region supports Xbox cloud gaming and that your plan is Essential, Premium, or Ultimate.
- Check the live catalog for a cloud-enabled game. A title in the subscription library may still be limited to console or PC installation.
- Use a compatible internet-connected device and supported Xbox app or browser experience for that device.
- Connect a supported controller or use another input method the game and device accept.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription and start the game from the cloud option.
- Monitor the account’s monthly cloud allowance, especially after the November 2026 limits begin. If the included hours are exhausted, wait for the next allowance or review Xbox’s then-current Store purchase options.
For setup background and the device guidance available at the time, see Xbox’s Getting Started with Xbox Cloud Gaming.
What happens when your included cloud hours run out?
Xbox says additional cloud playtime will be purchasable through the Xbox Store once the included allowance is used. The company had not yet stated the price, package sizes, expiration rules, or whether every market will receive identical purchase options. Do not budget for extra hours using an unannounced figure.
If you reach the limit, you can continue with an installed version of a game on a supported console or PC when your plan and hardware allow it, or wait for the next monthly allowance. That alternative is not available for a device that cannot run the game locally.

The prices above are US listings and should not be converted into local currency as if they were exchange-rate equivalents. Xbox says prices may vary by region. Check your local Xbox store while signed into the correct region. Confirm the recurring amount, taxes where applicable, promotional duration, renewal price, and cancellation terms before accepting an offer. Promotional pricing may be limited and may not apply to every member.
How does cancellation and recurring billing work?
Plan pages state that subscriptions continue automatically unless canceled through a Microsoft account. To avoid an unexpected renewal, open your Microsoft account’s Services and subscriptions area, select the Game Pass subscription, and follow the cancellation or recurring-billing controls shown for your region. The exact labels and refund choices can differ by market and account status, so read the confirmation screen before submitting.
Canceling recurring billing is different from deleting your Microsoft account. Keep the account if you want to retain access to purchased games, saves, or other Microsoft services, and check the displayed end date after cancellation.
What are the most common Game Pass pitfalls?
Assuming every catalog game works on every device
A game can be included for console or PC installation without being cloud-enabled, and cloud support can vary by region. Always check the title page and platform filters.
Treating a headline count as a permanent promise
The catalog totals are current page claims. They can change as games are added, removed, or licensed differently in each market.
Reading “day one” as every new release
Ultimate and PC Game Pass use selected day-one language, while Premium uses selected Xbox-published games within one year. Future Call of Duty launches are specifically excluded from day-one additions under the 2026 announcement.
Budgeting on old unlimited-cloud descriptions
The November 2026 announcement introduces monthly allowances of 5, 10, and 15 hours for Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Check Xbox’s current terms rather than relying on an older guide.

Buying a controller without checking the setup
Controller support depends on the device, software, and game. Verify compatibility for the exact phone, computer, handheld, browser, or app you plan to use.
Is Xbox Game Pass worth it?
Game Pass is most compelling when the subscription replaces several game purchases you would otherwise make, when you need console online multiplayer, or when you will use a bundled benefit such as EA Play or Ubisoft+ Classics. Ultimate can justify its price for players who use the larger catalog, selected day-one releases, partner services, and the highest cloud allowance. Premium is a middle option for a broader catalog and selected Xbox-published games within a year without the full Ultimate bundle.
Essential can be the sensible choice for a console player whose games are in its smaller catalog and who wants the lowest listed recurring price. PC Game Pass is the focused option for someone playing on Windows and not depending on the cloud benefit. In every case, verify the games you care about and the local recurring price first; the plan with the biggest catalog is not automatically the best value for your play pattern.

Do unused Xbox Game Pass cloud hours roll over?
Xbox’s November 2026 announcement specifies monthly allowances but does not state a rollover policy. Until Microsoft publishes that term, do not assume unused hours accumulate from one month to the next.
Can I stream a game I bought separately from Game Pass?
Xbox’s cloud-gaming guide says some games people own outside the Game Pass catalog can be streamed. That feature is not universal, so check the individual title and your region rather than assuming every purchased game is eligible.
Does PC Game Pass include console online multiplayer?
PC Game Pass is listed as a PC-focused plan with a PC catalog, selected day-one releases, and EA Play. The plan page does not list console online multiplayer, which is an inclusion shown on Essential, Premium, and Ultimate.
Are Game Pass catalog games permanent once installed?
No. Installation does not convert a subscription title into a perpetual license. If a game leaves the catalog or your subscription ends, you need an eligible purchase or an active subscription to continue playing it.
Is there a fixed date in November 2026 when cloud limits begin?
Xbox announced that the allowances begin in November 2026 but had not published a precise day when the change was described. Check the current Xbox announcement and your account page for the final date and any market-specific terms.
