Short answer: Microsoft’s U.S. storefront currently shows four Xbox Game Pass choices: Essential at $9.99 per month, Premium at $14.99, Ultimate at $22.99, and PC Game Pass at $13.99. Essential, Premium, and Ultimate are the plans Microsoft lists for cloud gaming. Your best choice depends on whether you play on Xbox, PC, or another device, how large a catalog you want, whether new Xbox releases matter, and how much cloud time you expect to use. Cloud play requires an eligible plan, a supported game, region and device, a compatible Bluetooth or USB controller, and a reliable connection. Recurring billing is enabled by default, but you can turn it off from your Microsoft account or Xbox console before the next billing date.

Prices, catalogs, supported markets, and policies can change. The figures below are U.S. storefront values checked October 25, 2026; use your local Xbox store and account page for the terms that apply to you.

What are the current Xbox Game Pass plans and prices?

Microsoft’s U.S. comparison pages show four monthly plans. The library sizes and release promises are descriptions of the current offering, not permanent guarantees; games and benefits can change.

Which Game Pass plan should I choose?

Choose based on the hardware you use and the benefits you will actually consume rather than on the largest catalog alone.

Choose Essential if you mainly need console access

Essential is the lowest-priced option in the U.S. comparison and includes a 50-plus-game catalog, online console multiplayer, and in-game benefits. It also has the smallest announced cloud allowance, so it suits occasional streaming better than someone who expects to play in the cloud every week.

Choose Premium for a larger catalog and earlier access to some Xbox releases

Premium raises the displayed U.S. price to $14.99 and lists more than 200 games. Microsoft says select new Xbox-published games arrive within one year of release, which is different from a blanket day-one promise. Premium also carries the announced 10-hour monthly cloud allowance.

Choose Ultimate for the broadest bundle

Ultimate is listed at $22.99 per month in the U.S. and combines a 500-plus-game catalog with select day-one releases. Microsoft also lists EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. Its announced cloud allowance is the highest of the three cloud plans at 15 hours per month, although that may still be insufficient for heavy streaming.

Choose PC Game Pass for PC-first play

PC Game Pass is shown at $13.99 per month with more than 300 PC games, day-one releases, and EA Play. Microsoft’s cloud FAQ does not list it among the cloud gaming plans, so do not assume that subscribing to the PC plan alone grants cloud access. Confirm the current plan description for your market before buying if streaming is essential.

Can I play Xbox Game Pass games in the cloud?

Yes, but only when every requirement lines up: an eligible subscription, a cloud-supported game, a supported region, a supported device, a compatible controller, and a connection that can sustain streaming. Cloud access is not a guarantee that every Game Pass title works on every device.

What devices are supported?

Microsoft’s cloud FAQ identifies these device categories, subject to current model, browser, app, and regional eligibility:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Windows PCs.
  • Apple and Android phones and tablets.
  • Xbox consoles.
  • Select smart TVs.
  • Amazon Fire TV devices.
  • Select Meta Quest headsets.

Because support can vary within a category, check Microsoft’s current device and region eligibility pages for your exact model and location.

What controller do I need?

The FAQ requires a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB. An Xbox Wireless Controller is an example of the type of accessory intended for cloud play, but compatibility still depends on the phone, tablet, PC, TV, or headset you are using. Pair the controller with the device before launching the stream and verify that its buttons are recognized.

How do I start cloud gaming?

Use this sequence to avoid troubleshooting a missing requirement after you have already launched a stream.

  1. Confirm the plan. Check that your subscription is Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, the plans Microsoft currently identifies for cloud gaming.
  2. Confirm the game. Open the current Game Pass catalog and look for the cloud-play option on the specific title. A game in the catalog is not automatically playable on every cloud device.
  3. Check region and device eligibility. Verify that cloud gaming is available where you are and that your Windows PC, mobile device, console, TV, Fire TV, or Meta Quest model is supported.
  4. Connect a controller. Use Bluetooth or USB, then test the buttons in the device’s controller settings.
  5. Prepare the network. For Microsoft’s best-performance guidance, target at least 10 Mbps on mobile devices and 20 Mbps on consoles, PCs, and tablets. Prefer a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network or mobile data with a strong signal.
  6. Launch the cloud session. Sign in with the Microsoft account that holds the subscription, select the cloud-play control for the game, and wait for the stream to establish.

How many cloud gaming hours does Game Pass include?

Team Xbox announced on September 3, 2026 that monthly included cloud time would change starting in November 2026. The announced allowances are 5 hours for Essential, 10 hours for Premium, and 15 hours for Ultimate. The announcement estimated that the change would affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers, according to Team Xbox in 2026.

Plan Announced included cloud time from November 2026 What is known about extra time
Essential 5 hours per month Team Xbox said additional hours would be purchasable; price and market details were to be announced.
Premium 10 hours per month Additional-hour pricing and availability were not stated in the announcement.
Ultimate 15 hours per month Additional-hour pricing and availability were not stated in the announcement.

October 25, 2026 falls before the stated November start. Whether the limits have begun in your market, how a month is measured, which games qualify for purchased time, and whether unused time carries over are details you should verify in your account and local Xbox terms. Do not treat the announced allowances as a universal effective policy until Microsoft shows them for your subscription.

What internet speed and equipment does cloud gaming need?

Microsoft gives connection guidance of 10 Mbps on mobile devices and 20 Mbps on consoles, PCs, and tablets for best performance. Those figures are targets, not a performance guarantee: location, network congestion, Wi-Fi interference, device capability, and the route to Microsoft’s servers can all affect latency and image quality.

  • Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi when available, or strong mobile data for a phone or tablet.
  • Move closer to the router or use a wired connection on equipment that supports Ethernet.
  • Pause large downloads and video streams on the same connection while playing.
  • Keep the controller charged and within reliable Bluetooth range, or use USB to remove wireless pairing variables.

Streaming may have limits that do not apply to an installed game, including video resolution, audio outputs, cloud-save storage, companion-app support, and compatibility with accessories or peripherals. If a feature matters to your setup, check the game and device documentation before relying on the stream.

How do I cancel Game Pass or stop the next charge?

Microsoft says recurring billing is enabled by default. Turning it off prevents the next renewal; it does not necessarily end access immediately if you have already paid for the current period.

Cancel from your Microsoft account

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
  2. Open the Services and subscriptions area.
  3. Find the Game Pass subscription and choose the management option.
  4. Select the control to change or turn off recurring billing, then confirm the prompts.
  5. Record the displayed end date and keep the confirmation email or screenshot.

Cancel from an Xbox console

  1. Open the console’s account or subscription settings while signed in to the purchasing account.
  2. Select Game Pass, then open its billing or management controls.
  3. Turn recurring billing off and complete the confirmation screens.
  4. Check that the next-charge date has disappeared or that an end date is displayed.

Complete either route before the next billing date. If the subscription was purchased through a third-party store or a different billing account, cancellation must be handled by that seller or account rather than by a separate Microsoft profile.

Can I get a refund after a Game Pass renewal?

Microsoft’s cloud FAQ describes a narrow refund route for a recent recurring charge. You must cancel and request the refund within 30 days after payment, and the one-time option is limited to once per Microsoft account per subscription product.

That policy does not promise approval in every case. Eligibility and any additional consumer rights depend on the applicable terms and your location, so use Microsoft’s official support request and subscription terms when submitting a claim. A refund request is separate from turning off recurring billing: do both if you want to stop future charges and seek a return of the latest payment.

How can I pick the right plan before paying?

Answer these questions in order:

  • Where will you play? Xbox console, Windows PC, mobile, TV, Fire TV, and Meta Quest support do not map identically to every plan or title.
  • Do you need online console multiplayer? Essential includes it; verify the current benefit list for other plans in your market.
  • How important are new releases? Premium lists select Xbox-published games within one year, while Ultimate and PC Game Pass list select or included day-one releases. Neither statement means every new game is included.
  • Will you stream often? Compare your expected hours with the announced monthly allowance and remember that the November 2026 change may not yet be active everywhere.
  • Will you use bundled services? Ultimate’s EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics have value only if you would otherwise use those benefits.
  • What will you actually pay? Confirm the local currency, taxes, promotional period, renewal amount, and billing date on the final checkout screen.

What should I check when cloud gaming does not work?

Work through the requirements instead of immediately changing plans.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • No cloud button: Verify that the title supports cloud play, your plan is eligible, and your region and device are supported.
  • Controller not detected: Re-pair Bluetooth, try USB, and test the controller outside the game. A controller that works on one device may not be compatible with another.
  • Blurry video or lag: Compare your connection with Microsoft’s 10 Mbps mobile or 20 Mbps console, PC, and tablet guidance; switch to 5 GHz Wi-Fi, move nearer the router, or use Ethernet where possible.
  • Session blocked after extensive streaming: Check the account’s remaining monthly cloud allowance, especially after the announced November 2026 limits take effect.
  • Missing save or accessory feature: Cloud sessions can differ from installed play in save storage, companion apps, audio outputs, resolution, and peripherals. Consult the game’s current support information.

Which details change most often?

Prices, promotional offers, catalog counts, included games, supported devices, regions, cloud allowances, and refund terms are all subject to change. Microsoft’s storefront and account page are the authoritative places to confirm what you can buy and what you will be charged. Treat the plan comparison above as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent specification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does PC Game Pass include Xbox cloud gaming?

Microsoft’s cloud FAQ lists Essential, Premium, and Ultimate as cloud gaming plans, while PC Game Pass is not listed in that group. If cloud access is a deciding factor, check the current description shown for your country and account before subscribing.

Can I use a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller for cloud play?

The stated cloud requirement is a compatible controller connected through Bluetooth or USB. Keyboard-and-mouse support is not established as a universal substitute, so plan on using a supported controller unless the specific device and game say otherwise.

Do unused cloud hours roll over to the next month?

The November 2026 announcement specifies monthly allowances but does not state a rollover policy. Look for the allowance and expiration terms in your Xbox account or local subscription conditions rather than assuming unused time carries forward.
