Xbox reported more than 190 cloud games with support active in its April 30, 2026 update, but compatibility is title-specific and can vary by platform, region, and plan. Check the current listing for the game you want before you start.
Can you use a keyboard and mouse on Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Yes, if the game and device you are using support those inputs. Xbox began publicly rolling out mouse-and-keyboard cloud play through Edge and Chrome at xbox.com/play in May 2024. Support for the Xbox app on Windows PC followed for games displaying a mouse-and-keyboard badge. Xbox’s launch announcement said players could switch between controller and keyboard/mouse using a keyboard key or the Xbox button. Xbox’s May 15, 2024 announcement describes that rollout.
That announcement quoted Xbox Wire Editor-in-Chief Joe Skrebels: “Mouse and keyboard support for cloud gaming will start rolling out today.” The statement refers to the May 2024 rollout, not a new or upcoming feature.
Which Xbox cloud games support mouse and keyboard?
Only compatible games do. Xbox reported “190+ games with mouse and keyboard support active on cloud” in its April 30, 2026 update. The figure is a dated count from Xbox, not a verified live total for October 2026, and it does not mean every cloud game supports these inputs. Xbox’s April 2026 update also named six additions that month:

Before launching, open the current Xbox game listing and check the title’s input support or mouse-and-keyboard badge. Game availability and features can change, and may differ by platform, region, or subscription plan. The first 25 titles announced in May 2024 were an initial launch wave, not a current compatibility list.
How to start a cloud game with mouse and keyboard
- On a supported browser, go to xbox.com/play and sign in with your Microsoft account. Xbox names Edge, Chrome, and Safari among supported browsers for cloud gaming.
- Choose a game whose current listing confirms mouse-and-keyboard support. A cloud game being playable on your device does not by itself confirm support for these controls.
- Connect a compatible keyboard and mouse to your device, then start the game. Xbox says wired USB mice and keyboards work in select games and apps; its cloud FAQ cautions that streamed games may have limited peripheral support.
- If the game supports both control types, Xbox’s 2024 announcement said you can switch between controller and keyboard/mouse using a keyboard key or the Xbox button. The specific behavior may depend on the game.
The May 2024 public rollout instructions used this browser flow. Earlier Insider preview notes included extra browser steps—fullscreen mode, clicking the stream to capture the pointer, and pressing F9 to exit mouse-and-keyboard input—but those were preview-era instructions and should not be treated as universal current requirements. What device, subscription, and connection do you need?
Xbox’s Cloud Gaming FAQ says an active Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate subscription and a supported game in a supported region are generally required. Select free-to-play games are available with a free Microsoft account. Listed device categories include Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, select smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, and select Meta Quest headsets.
Those broad cloud-gaming device options do not guarantee keyboard-and-mouse compatibility on each one. Xbox says peripheral support for streamed games may be limited, so confirm both the selected game’s input support and compatibility with your particular device before buying accessories or troubleshooting a stream.

- Performance: Stream quality depends on connection, location, device, and other factors.
Should you buy a wired USB keyboard and mouse?
A wired USB gaming keyboard and mouse is one option if your device has compatible USB connections. Xbox specifically says wired USB mice and keyboards work in select games and apps across Xbox and Windows devices. That is not a guarantee for every cloud game or every cloud-compatible device. Check the game’s input support and the device’s connection compatibility first; no particular model is established here as best.
