The best Xbox Cloud Gaming alternative depends on what you want to play: GeForce NOW is a strong choice for streaming supported games you already own on PC storefronts; Amazon Luna suits people who want a cloud catalog and already use Fire TV or a supported smart TV; and Boosteroid offers another bring-your-own-game option. If you want a subscription catalog of console games rather than access to a PC library, Xbox Cloud Gaming may still be the better fit.

These services are not interchangeable game libraries. Before subscribing, check whether your games are supported, whether your device and controller work, and whether the service is available where you live. The comparison below uses the published information available as of October 2026; plans, catalogs, device lists and regional availability can change.

What are the main differences between these Xbox Cloud Gaming alternatives?

All four services stream games from remote hardware, but they differ most in how you get access to games. Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna emphasize games available through a service catalog or subscription. GeForce NOW and Boosteroid generally connect to games you own through supported storefront accounts, although some free-to-play games are also available.

Service Best suited to How game access works Notable device or service detail
GeForce NOW Players with supported PC games in linked storefront accounts who want to stream across multiple device types Connect supported game-store accounts; stream supported games you own or free-to-play titles. NVIDIA says its library has more than 4,500 games. Free, Performance and Ultimate memberships; Ultimate uses RTX 5080 rigs and advertises up to 5K HDR at 120 FPS. Check NVIDIA for current plan terms.
Amazon Luna People who want cloud gaming through the Luna offering, especially households with Fire TV or a supported smart TV Access depends on Luna’s available games and subscription or other eligibility for the title; check the current catalog and terms for your location. Amazon recommends at least 10 Mbps and says 1080p streaming can use up to 10 GB per hour.
Boosteroid Players who want another way to stream supported games from their PC game accounts Bring your own paid games from supported official distributors; Boosteroid does not sell those games. Browser and app options span PC, mobile and some TV routes. Advertised plans start at €7.49 per month with an annual subscription.
Xbox Cloud Gaming Players who want a subscription-linked console-game catalog, particularly if Game Pass already fits their needs Play compatible games made available through Xbox Cloud Gaming; the service is not simply a way to stream every game you own. Supported device categories include Windows PC, phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, select smart TVs, Fire TV and Meta Quest. A compatible controller is required on the listed paths.

“Best” therefore does not mean the service with the biggest advertised resolution or the lowest headline monthly cost. The useful comparison is the total cost and access route for the games you actually intend to play, on the device and connection you have.

Which service is best for the games I already own?

If you have a PC game library, start with GeForce NOW and Boosteroid: both are designed around supported games linked to storefront accounts. If you would rather choose from games available through a subscription catalog, compare Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna instead.

GeForce NOW: link a supported game library

GeForce NOW connects to supported game-store accounts so you can stream eligible games you own, as well as free-to-play titles. Ownership alone does not guarantee access: the specific game must be supported by the service, and you may need to connect the account that holds it. NVIDIA describes a library of more than 4,500 games, but the relevant check is whether your own titles appear in the current catalog.

The service offers Free, Performance and Ultimate memberships. NVIDIA describes Ultimate as using RTX 5080 rigs and advertising up to 5K HDR at 120 FPS. Those are plan-specific advertised capabilities, not a promise that every game, display, network or device will deliver that output. Check current membership terms and technical requirements before choosing a tier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Boosteroid: pay for the streaming service, not the game

Boosteroid also follows a bring-your-own-game approach for paid titles. Its Help Center says those games must be purchased from the official distributor, such as Steam, Epic or Xbox; Boosteroid does not sell them. A Boosteroid subscription therefore does not, by itself, grant ownership of a paid game.

The documented flow is to sign up, choose a tariff, select a game and sign in to the relevant game account. Support can vary by title and distributor, so check the game listing before paying for a plan. Boosteroid’s site advertises plans from €7.49 per month with an annual subscription; that starting price is tied to annual billing, not a general monthly rate.

Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna: check the available catalog

Xbox Cloud Gaming is built around access to compatible console games offered through Xbox’s cloud service. A December 19, 2025 Xbox Wire guide said unlimited cloud gaming was included with Game Pass Essential, Premium and Ultimate. It gave U.S. examples of Essential at $10 per month with more than 50 games, Premium at $14.99 per month with more than 200 games, and Ultimate with more than 400 games plus day-one new titles and additional EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics benefits. These are dated examples, not guaranteed October 2026 prices or catalog counts; check current terms in your region.

Luna also centers on games available through its service rather than acting as a universal remote for every game you own. The specific catalog and access conditions can depend on location and current Luna offerings. Amazon’s Help page says Luna is offered in 14 countries; confirm eligibility and the catalog in your country before planning around it.

Which service works on my PC, phone, or TV?

All four cover more than one type of device, but their lists and access methods differ. A service appearing on a platform does not mean every model, operating-system version or game-control method is supported.

Service Published device coverage What to check
GeForce NOW Laptops and desktops, Macs, Chromebooks, SHIELD TV, select Samsung and LG TVs, iPhone and iPad, Android devices, Steam Deck, VR headsets and Linux PCs; NVIDIA also lists supported Fire TV models. Confirm the exact device or TV model and client requirements. Fire TV support covers selected Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max generations, not every Fire TV device.
Xbox Cloud Gaming Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, select LG, Samsung and VIDAA smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Meta Quest. Confirm that the specific device and game are supported, and plan to use a compatible controller on the listed paths.
Amazon Luna Fire TV and Fire tablets; select Samsung and LG smart TVs; Chrome on PC, Mac and Chromebook; select Android phones; Edge on PC and Mac; and Safari on iPhone and iPad. Check both model compatibility and country eligibility. Amazon lists Luna in 14 countries.
Boosteroid Browser and app routes for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, Android TV and iOS, plus supported smart-TV paths. Check the current client, TV and game support details for the device you plan to use; the available route can differ by platform.

If TV play is your priority, Luna is a natural candidate for a Fire TV household, while Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW and Boosteroid also have TV routes on supported hardware. “Works on a TV” is not enough to decide: verify the model, the way you will launch the service, and how you will control the game.

What internet speed and latency do I need?

Bandwidth is only part of the experience. A fast connection can still feel sluggish if the route to the cloud server has high latency or your Wi-Fi connection is unstable.

  • BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
  • GeForce NOW: NVIDIA specifies 15 Mbps for HD gaming up to 60 FPS and 25 Mbps for 1080p at 60 FPS. It recommends latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center.
  • Luna: Amazon recommends a minimum 10 Mbps connection. At 1080p, it says streaming can consume up to 10 GB per hour.
  • Xbox Cloud Gaming and Boosteroid: The information cited here does not establish a comparable speed threshold. Check each service’s current requirements for your device and the quality setting you intend to use.

Those figures are service guidance, not a guarantee of smooth play. Available bandwidth can be shared with other household activity, while Wi-Fi interference and distance from the relevant data center can affect responsiveness. For games where timing matters, a stable connection and low latency may matter more than a higher advertised resolution.

How to check your setup before subscribing

  1. Check the service’s device list. Confirm the exact TV, streaming device, computer, phone or tablet—not just the platform family—is supported.
  2. Test the connection where you will play. A speed result from another room or a wired desktop may not represent the Wi-Fi performance of a TV across the house.
  3. Compare your result with published requirements. For GeForce NOW, use NVIDIA’s 15 Mbps HD and 25 Mbps 1080p guidance and its under-80-ms data-center latency recommendation. For Luna, compare against Amazon’s 10 Mbps minimum recommendation.
  4. Try a short session before buying games for cloud use. Check input response, image stability and whether the specific game launches correctly through the service.
  5. Account for household data use. Luna’s 1080p stream can use up to 10 GB per hour, which can add up during long sessions on a metered connection.

Do I need a controller, and can I use a keyboard and mouse?

Controller support is a practical requirement to settle before choosing a service, especially for living-room play. Xbox Cloud Gaming says a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB is required on its listed device paths; NVIDIA lists Xbox controllers, Sony DualSense and DualShock 4, and other supported pads for GeForce NOW.

Boosteroid’s help guidance says TV and mobile play defaults to games with gamepad support. This matters because a game may be available through an account but still be awkward or unsupported on a particular device if its controls do not fit that setup. Luna’s exact controller compatibility should be checked against the current device and game guidance.

Keyboard and mouse behavior varies by client, game and device. Do not assume that a PC game’s normal desktop controls will work when you stream it to a TV or mobile device. Check the service’s input guidance for your device and confirm that the game itself supports the control method you plan to use.

How much does each option really cost?

Compare the full cost of playing, not just the streaming subscription. A bring-your-own-game plan can require buying a game separately, while a catalog-based subscription is useful only if it includes games you want to play and remains available in your region.

Check the current Game Pass tier, regional price and catalog. A controller or streaming device may be an additional purchase.

How should I choose among the four services?

Use your existing game library, target device and connection as the decision order. This avoids paying for a tier or device feature that does not solve your actual use case.

  1. Write down the games you want to play. For games you own on PC storefronts, check GeForce NOW and Boosteroid support title by title. For a subscription catalog, examine the current Xbox Cloud Gaming or Luna catalog in your region.
  2. Pick the device you will use most. If you plan to play on a TV, check its exact model and whether you need a separate streaming device. For a laptop or phone, confirm the browser or app route and any operating-system requirements.
  3. Check controls before buying hardware. Identify whether the game supports a gamepad, keyboard and mouse, or both on that device. Xbox Cloud Gaming requires a compatible controller on its listed paths.
  4. Check network conditions from the play location. Compare measured bandwidth and, where provided, latency with the service’s guidance. Treat unstable Wi-Fi as a possible bottleneck even when the speed test looks adequate.
  5. Calculate the actual cost. Add the subscription, games not included, controller, streaming hardware and applicable regional taxes. Compare like with like: an annual-plan starting price is not equivalent to a month-to-month catalog subscription.
  6. Confirm current availability and terms. Service catalogs, membership names, device support, prices and regions change. Check the official service page for the exact plan and game before subscribing.

What are the main limitations to watch for?

A supported service is not the same as a supported game

GeForce NOW’s library figure and Boosteroid’s storefront integrations do not mean every game in every account can be streamed. Search for the exact title and check its supported store or account route. On catalog-led services, verify that the game is currently included and available to your account rather than assuming that a broad catalog description guarantees access.

High-resolution advertising depends on the full setup

GeForce NOW’s up-to-5K HDR at 120 FPS claim is associated with Ultimate and RTX 5080 rigs. Boosteroid advertises up to 4K capability. Neither description alone establishes the resolution and frame rate you will receive in every game: service tier, game, client, display, location and network all matter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Availability and session conditions can differ

Amazon says Luna is available in 14 countries, so its presence in one market does not establish availability elsewhere. Boosteroid advertises unlimited session duration when servers are available; that capacity qualification matters, and the claim should not be read as an unconditional guarantee of server access at every moment.

Service terms are time-sensitive

Membership names, prices, game counts, supported devices and catalog rights can change. In particular, treat Xbox’s December 2025 tier examples as historical U.S. information, not a current global price list. Recheck the official plan and device pages when making a purchase decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a keyboard and mouse with cloud gaming on a TV?

Sometimes, but support depends on the service client, TV or attached device, and the game. A TV-focused setup is safest when you verify the game’s input support and the service’s device-specific controls before purchasing anything.

Will cloud gaming work on a metered internet connection?

It can, but data use may be significant. Amazon says Luna streaming at 1080p can use up to 10 GB per hour, so estimate your play time against your provider’s monthly data allowance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use a cloud gaming service while traveling abroad?

Do not assume your home-market availability carries over: service access and game catalogs are location-dependent. Luna is listed by Amazon as available in 14 countries, and you should check the current terms for your destination before relying on it.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
