X-VPN for Windows is a straightforward consumer VPN app with a no-sign-up free tier and a paid plan that adds manual server selection, broader location coverage, and extra protection features. It is a reasonable fit for casual browsing, public Wi-Fi, and users who want a simple desktop VPN. However, it should not be treated as an anonymity guarantee, and its privacy and performance claims are based largely on information published by X-VPN rather than independent testing.
The safest way to install it is through the official X-VPN Windows download page or the Microsoft Store. Do not use repackaged installers from download mirrors or unofficial websites.
What X-VPN for Windows is
X-VPN is a consumer VPN service operated by LIGHTNINGLINK NETWORKS PTE. LTD., a Singapore-based company. Its Windows product is a dedicated desktop application: you install the client, open it, choose the available connection options, and press a connect button. You do not normally need to create a manual VPN profile in Windows.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →When connected, the app is intended to route your Windows internet traffic through an X-VPN server. That can replace the public IP address seen by websites, encrypt traffic between the device and the VPN server, and make an untrusted network—such as airport or café Wi-Fi—less useful to someone trying to inspect local network traffic.
#1 Best Overall
- Unlimited encrypted traffic for up to 10 devices
- Online protection and anonymity
- Safe online media streaming and downloads
- NEW Ad Blocker and Anti-tracker. Blocks annoying ads, popups system wide and stops advertisers from collecting precious data about your online habits.
- NEW App Traffic Optimizer. Lets you prioritize traffic of up to 3 app for better desired results.
A VPN does not make you anonymous. Websites can still identify you through accounts, cookies, browser fingerprinting, payment details, malware, or information you voluntarily provide. It also does not replace antivirus software, Windows updates, safe browsing habits, or a secure password strategy.
Windows compatibility and where to download X-VPN
The current X-VPN Windows product page positions the app for Windows 10, Windows 11, and ARM devices. Older X-VPN support documentation says Windows 7 or later, but that is legacy information and should not be interpreted as confirmation that every current feature or installer still supports Windows 7. If you use Windows 7, verify compatibility with X-VPN before installing.
Use one of these two distribution routes:
- Official website: download the installer from X-VPN’s Windows page.
- Microsoft Store: search for the official X-VPN app in the Microsoft Store and check the publisher before installing.
Avoid third-party “free download” pages, modified installers, software bundles, and pirated copies. X-VPN’s June 5, 2026 security statement discussed a DLL side-loading scenario involving tampered or repackaged Windows copies. X-VPN said its investigation found no evidence that the official website download or Microsoft Store version was affected and said Windows version 77.5.3 added hardening measures. That is the company’s statement, not independent proof that no official user was compromised, so the practical response is to use official channels and update promptly.

How to install and connect X-VPN on Windows
- Open the official Windows download page, or install the app from the Microsoft Store.
- If you download an installer, run it and approve the Windows permission prompt only if the publisher and source are what you expect.
- Finish the installation and launch X-VPN.
- Use the free service without registration if that is all you need. X-VPN says its free Windows client does not require an email address or account.
- If you have a paid subscription, sign in to the account associated with it.
- Press the main Connect button. The app should show a connected state and a VPN server or location.
- Open a browser and check that ordinary websites load. For a more meaningful privacy check, verify your public IP and test for DNS or WebRTC exposure using reputable testing sites; a changed IP alone does not prove that every leak-protection feature is working.
For routine use, enable the kill switch if it is available in your Windows app settings. A kill switch is designed to block internet traffic if the VPN tunnel drops, reducing the chance that applications continue over the ordinary connection. It can also cause apparent “internet outages” when the VPN cannot connect, so temporarily disabling it may help diagnose connectivity—but do not leave it off on an untrusted network if leak prevention is your priority.
Free X-VPN on Windows: what you get
X-VPN’s current free-plan comparison describes the Windows tier as unusually simple to start:
- No sign-up required.
- No advertisements on Windows, according to X-VPN’s comparison.
- Unlimited daily data according to the current free-plan description.
- Automatic server selection rather than manual location selection.
- More than 50 free server locations.
- A kill switch on Windows.
- One simultaneous login.
The most important restriction is control. The free app chooses the server for you, so it is not the right tier if you need to connect to a particular country or region. X-VPN’s older pages have described different free-plan data limits, including a daily allowance. Because the company’s pages have not always been consistent, check the current in-app or plan comparison before relying on a specific free-tier allowance.
The free plan makes sense if you want occasional protection on a laptop, do not need a particular exit country, and want to try the Windows client before paying. It is less suitable for regular streaming, location-specific work, or a household with several devices.
Premium X-VPN for Windows: what changes
The paid tier is primarily an upgrade in choice and convenience. X-VPN’s current Windows description says premium includes:
Rank #2
- Protects the whole household. Secure your entire home network on up to 10 devices simultaneously with one subscription. Works with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, Amazon Fire TV, and web browsers.
- Offers thousands of VPN servers worldwide. Connect to thousands of ultra-fast VPN servers in 224+ locations for smooth 4K streaming, low-ping gaming, and quick downloads.
- Stops common online threats. Enable our next-gen antivirus to catch malicious downloads, stop dangerous phishing links, and block intrusive ads to keep your browsing experience clean and fast.
- Protects your private details. Stop hackers and network snoops from intercepting your sensitive personal information, banking details, or passwords while you browse.
- Generates, stores, and auto-fills passwords. Our password manager keeps track of your passwords so you don’t have to. Sync your passwords across every device you own and get secure access to your accounts with just a few clicks.
- Manual selection from more than 250 locations.
- Faster service compared with the free experience, according to X-VPN’s product claims.
- Streaming access features.
- A kill switch.
- Browser protection.
- Ad, malicious-website, tracker, and cookie blocking.
- Dark-web monitoring.
- Up to five simultaneous devices.
Feature availability can depend on the platform, subscription type, region, and checkout presentation. Do not assume that every security utility listed on a general X-VPN page is included in every Windows purchase; confirm the current plan comparison before subscribing.
| Feature | Free Windows tier | Premium Windows tier |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | No sign-up required, according to X-VPN | Account required for subscription use |
| Server choice | Automatic selection | Manual selection from 250+ advertised locations |
| Free locations | More than 50 advertised locations | Broader global network |
| Daily data | Current comparison says unlimited; older pages differ | Check the current subscription terms |
| Kill switch | Available on Windows | Available |
| Simultaneous devices | One login | Up to five devices |
| Streaming and advanced protection | Limited compared with premium | Advertised, but results and exact feature availability vary |
For readers deciding whether to upgrade, X-VPN pricing is the relevant page to check immediately before purchase because both prices and included features can change.
Privacy and security: what the evidence does—and does not—show
Traffic-data no-logs claim
X-VPN’s privacy policy dated March 18, 2026 says it does not collect or store VPN traffic information such as:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Source or destination IP addresses.
- Websites visited.
- DNS queries.
- Downloaded content.
- The VPN server used for a session.
- Connection timestamps.
That is a meaningful distinction from saying that X-VPN collects no information at all. The same policy describes processing account, order, support, device, diagnostic, and aggregated performance information. Some aggregated operational metrics may be retained for up to 48 hours. “No logs” should therefore be read as a claim about specified VPN activity and traffic logs, not as a promise that the company has no customer or technical data.
No-logs assurance
X-VPN says an independent no-logs assurance engagement was completed on February 28, 2026 by one of the Big Four accounting firms under ISAE 3000 (Revised). According to X-VPN, the engagement examined privacy statements, controls, supporting practices, and governance and confirmed that the specified VPN-activity data was not collected or stored.
There are two important qualifications. X-VPN did not publicly identify the accounting firm in the sources reviewed, and the complete report is said to be available to logged-in users. This is not the same as a publicly available source-code audit, penetration test, or permanent guarantee against future changes or failures. Treat it as useful assurance, but weigh it alongside the limited public detail.
Encryption and infrastructure claims
In its Trust Center, X-VPN describes AES-256 encryption, TLS-based tunnel encryption, IP, DNS, and WebRTC leak protection, a kill switch, and proprietary or automatically selected protocols including Everest. The company also says its VPN servers use RAM-only infrastructure and that service output is redirected to a null path.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThese are vendor-described capabilities. They should not be presented as independent proof of superior security, privacy, speed, or reliability. A VPN also cannot protect a Windows computer from malware that is already running on the device, nor can it stop a user from sending sensitive information to a phishing site.

Transparency report and jurisdiction
X-VPN’s transparency report lists law-enforcement and DMCA requests from 2017 through the first quarter of 2026 and reports zero data disclosures. This is self-published company information, not an independently audited government record.
The service is operated by a Singapore company, and its terms are governed by Singapore law. The terms effective March 25, 2026 describe the software license as personal, revocable, non-transferable, and intended for private, non-commercial activity. Readers who need a corporate, regulated, or centrally managed VPN should not assume that a consumer X-VPN subscription meets those requirements.
What happened with the 2026 Windows DLL side-loading report?
On June 5, 2026, X-VPN published a statement about a DLL side-loading scenario affecting tampered or repackaged copies of its Windows software. In a DLL side-loading attack, a malicious or altered program can cause a trusted-looking application to load an unwanted library placed alongside it. The risk is particularly relevant when users obtain installers from unofficial download sites.
Recommended Free Tools
X-VPN said its investigation found no evidence that users of the official website download or Microsoft Store version were affected and said version 77.5.3 included hardening measures. The sensible response is not to install a random older copy or search for a “clean” mirror. Instead:
- Uninstall a copy obtained from an unofficial source.
- Run a malware scan using your installed security software and Windows Security.
- Download the current client from X-VPN’s official site or the Microsoft Store.
- Update to the latest available version.
- Change your X-VPN password if you used that installation to sign in, particularly if you observed suspicious behavior.
- Review browser extensions, startup programs, and recent security alerts for anything unexpected.
The company’s statement is not independent confirmation that compromise was impossible. Download provenance remains one of the most important security decisions when installing X-VPN—or any Windows software.
Is X-VPN suitable for streaming?
X-VPN markets premium access for streaming and names services including Netflix and Disney+ on its download materials. A VPN may help when a service makes different content available by region, but streaming providers actively detect and block VPN endpoints. Server availability, content licensing, and blocking rules can change without notice.
Do not buy X-VPN on the assumption that it will reliably unlock a particular catalog in a particular country. Using a VPN may also conflict with the terms of a streaming platform. Check the platform’s rules and current X-VPN policy, and expect that a server that works today may not work tomorrow.

X-VPN promotes gaming acceleration, low-latency connections, and access to regional services. Those outcomes depend on your ISP, physical distance to the VPN server, routing conditions, game server, congestion, and the game’s account and region policies. A VPN can sometimes improve a poor route, but it can also add a hop and increase latency.

- Sends alerts when your data leaks. Our Dark Web Monitor Pro will warn you if your email addresses or credit card details are spotted in underground hacker sites, so you can take action to protect your accounts and payment information.
No independent speed, latency, gaming-performance, or unblocking tests were performed for this evaluation. If gaming performance matters, test the free tier or a refundable paid purchase with the actual games and servers you use. Keep the nearest suitable server selected rather than assuming that the most distant country will provide a better connection.
Using X-VPN on public Wi-Fi and for ordinary browsing
Public Wi-Fi is one of the clearest use cases. A VPN can encrypt traffic between your Windows PC and the VPN server, making passive inspection on the local network more difficult. You should still use HTTPS, keep Windows and browsers updated, disable automatic connection to unknown networks, and avoid entering credentials on suspicious pages.
For ordinary browsing, the free tier may be adequate if automatic server selection is acceptable. Premium is more useful when you want a particular location, five-device coverage, or the additional browser and blocking features advertised by X-VPN. Neither tier prevents tracking by websites you log into, and neither makes unsafe downloads safe.
Pricing, trials, refunds, and renewal
The official pricing page currently displays these promotional prices:
- 24 months: $69.99 total for the introductory period.
- First year: $47.99.
- Monthly: $11.99.
X-VPN’s renewal terms separately list standard renewal prices of $11.99 per month and $71.99 per year, before taxes. Promotional prices are not necessarily the price charged after the introductory period. The pricing page describes the two-year offer as billed for the initial two years, while the terms say a two-year subscription renews annually after that introductory period at the then-current annual renewal price.
Because pricing and promotions are volatile, inspect the checkout screen for the renewal interval, renewal amount, taxes, and cancellation terms before paying. Do not compare the introductory total with another service’s normal lifetime or renewal cost.
X-VPN advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee for purchases made through its website. App-store purchases may instead have a seven-day trial in many regions. If you subscribed through the Microsoft Store or another app store, cancel through that store; cancelling an X-VPN website account may not stop an app-store renewal. Store availability and refund rules vary by region, so retain the receipt and check the purchase channel.
Who should use X-VPN for Windows?
| Reader | Fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Casual user wanting simple Wi-Fi protection | Good starting point | The Windows client is easy to install, and the current free tier does not require registration. |
| User who needs a specific country | Premium required | The free tier uses automatic server selection; premium advertises manual selection across 250+ locations. |
| Privacy-conscious consumer | Potentially suitable, with qualifications | The traffic no-logs policy and reported assurance engagement are positives, but much of the evidence is vendor-published and the full report is not broadly public. |
| Streaming user | Conditional | Premium advertises streaming access, but no particular service or catalog is guaranteed. |
| Competitive gamer | Test first | No independent latency or performance testing supports a universal improvement claim. |
| Business or enterprise user | Usually not the obvious fit | The consumer terms and feature presentation do not establish enterprise administration, compliance, or centralized management features. |
Common problems and practical fixes
The app will not connect
- Confirm that another VPN, proxy, firewall rule, or security suite is not blocking it.
- Restart X-VPN and Windows.
- Try another server or automatic selection.
- Temporarily test with the kill switch disabled only for diagnosis; re-enable it afterward.
- Check whether the network blocks VPN protocols. A different network can help distinguish a local network restriction from an installation problem.
- Update the app from the official source.
The internet stops when X-VPN disconnects
This may be the kill switch working as designed. Reconnect the VPN first. If you need to restore ordinary internet access for troubleshooting, disable the kill switch briefly, then turn it back on before using an untrusted network.

Verdict
X-VPN for Windows is a credible option for readers who want a simple consumer VPN with a free, no-sign-up starting point. Its strongest practical advantages are the easy installation, Windows kill switch, advertised free server selection pool, premium manual locations, five-device allowance, and X-VPN’s reported 2026 no-logs assurance engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is X-VPN free on Windows?
Yes. X-VPN describes a free Windows tier with no sign-up required, no Windows ads, automatic server selection, more than 50 free locations, a kill switch, unlimited daily data in its current comparison, and one simultaneous login. Older X-VPN pages mention different data limits, so check the current app or plan page.
Does X-VPN support Windows 7?
Older X-VPN documentation says Windows 7 or later, but the current Windows product page emphasizes Windows 10, Windows 11, and ARM devices. Windows 7 users should verify current installer compatibility directly with X-VPN rather than assuming full support.
Is X-VPN anonymous?
No. A VPN can hide your normal IP address from websites and encrypt the VPN tunnel, but it does not prevent account-based identification, cookies, browser fingerprinting, malware, or identifying information that you provide.
Can X-VPN unblock Netflix or Disney+?
X-VPN advertises premium streaming access and mentions services such as Netflix and Disney+, but no particular service, country, or catalog is guaranteed. Streaming platforms change their VPN-blocking methods and their terms may restrict VPN use.
How many devices can use X-VPN Premium?
X-VPN says one premium account can be used on up to five devices simultaneously. Confirm the current subscription presentation because feature limits can vary by platform or plan.
What should I do if I installed X-VPN from an unofficial website?
Uninstall it, scan Windows with your security software, download the current version from X-VPN’s official site or the Microsoft Store, and update promptly. If you signed in through the unofficial installation, consider changing your X-VPN password.
