WoW: Forever requires different minimum specifications on Windows and Mac. On Windows, Blizzard lists Windows 10 64-bit (May 2019 update or newer), a four-core 3.0 GHz processor, a DirectX 12-capable graphics processor with 4 GB of video memory, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of available SSD space. The Mac minimum is macOS 12, an Apple M2 or ninth-generation Intel Core Coffee Lake processor, 8 GB of memory, Metal-capable graphics and 128 GB of available SSD space. Recommended configurations raise those targets to Windows 11, an eight-performance-core CPU, an 8 GB graphics card and 16 GB RAM, or macOS 15, an Apple M4 and 16 GB memory.
Those are compatibility thresholds, not promises of a particular frame rate. The smoothest approach is to compare every line of the table with your computer, update the operating system and graphics driver, start with the Classic or Enhanced visual profile you prefer, then adjust individual options in Game Menu > Options while comparing your normal play situations. Requirements and launch timing should be rechecked around the announced November 4, 2026 global release.
What are the minimum requirements for WoW: Forever?
Blizzard publishes separate Windows and Mac tables. A computer must satisfy the operating-system, processor, graphics, memory and storage entries together; meeting only the graphics-architecture cutoff does not make an under-specced machine a minimum-spec system.

The official storefront describes these as requirements for the game, not as an FPS rating. “128 GB available” means free capacity on the SSD after accounting for the operating system and other files. It is not a published download-size figure. Leave additional headroom for patches, caches and other applications rather than filling a 128 GB drive to its limit.

On Mac, read the graphics wording literally. “Metal capable 4 GB GPU” and “Apple M2 8 GB” are entries in Blizzard’s table; the Apple-silicon number should not be rewritten as dedicated VRAM. The table names M2 at minimum and M4 at recommended, but does not list M1. That omission does not establish whether a specific M1 Mac will launch the game or what performance it would deliver.

The named CPU and GPU families are examples inside the broader requirements, not a guarantee that every model in a family performs identically. Laptop power limits, cooling, resolution and background software can change the result. A desktop with an older but otherwise capable processor may not map cleanly to the boost-clock wording, so use the complete specification and not a model name alone.
Will an older graphics card run WoW: Forever?
There are two separate questions: whether the GPU architecture supports the required feature, and whether the card reaches Blizzard’s published minimum specification. The first answer can be yes while the second is no.
Blizzard’s GPU notice sets an architecture floor of AMD Graphics Core Next 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014) or Intel Skylake (2015), or newer. Examples it identifies as compatible include Radeon HD 7850, GeForce GTX 9xx and GTX 750/750 Ti, and Intel HD Graphics 530. Blizzard immediately cautions: “It’s important to note that these GPUs are still well below the minimum requirements for the game.” In other words, an architecture-compatible card may still lack the 4 GB of video memory or other capability in the Windows storefront minimum.

The notice names Radeon HD 6950, GeForce GTX 760/770/780, GTX 8xxM and Intel HD Graphics 6000 among unsupported examples. Blizzard attributes the cutoff to RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders. Do not infer support for every model in an entire series: mobile variants, memory configurations and driver support can differ.

Is 128 GB the download size?
No. Blizzard specifies 128 GB of available SSD space; it does not publish that number as the installer or final download size. The space requirement covers the room the installation needs on the drive, while the downloaded data can be a different size and can change with updates.
Before installation, open the drive’s properties and confirm at least 128 GB is free. An internal SSD is preferable to a hard disk for loading responsiveness, but the published requirement is capacity and SSD storage, not a particular brand, interface or benchmark. If buying an internal SSD for a gaming PC, verify the motherboard’s M.2 or SATA support, physical size, available slot and operating-system compatibility first.
Can I play WoW: Forever on a Mac?
Yes, Blizzard publishes a Mac path, provided the Mac matches the listed macOS, processor, graphics, memory and storage entries. The minimum table names macOS 12, Apple M2 or ninth-generation Intel Core Coffee Lake, 8 GB memory and a Metal-capable 4 GB GPU; the recommended table names macOS 15, Apple M4 and 16 GB memory.
Apple’s unified-memory terminology makes direct comparisons with Windows VRAM difficult. Keep the table’s “Apple M2 8 GB” and “Apple M4 16 GB” wording intact rather than treating those figures as dedicated graphics memory. Because M1 is not named, owners should wait for an explicit compatibility statement or verify the live requirements after release instead of assuming support.

macOS updates can also change driver and Metal behavior. Install the current supported macOS version for the Mac, keep adequate free SSD capacity, and close memory-heavy applications before launching. If the Mac falls below the published processor or memory line, lowering options cannot turn it into a documented minimum-spec configuration.
How do I install and access WoW: Forever?
An active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time includes access, according to Blizzard. Installation and selection of the WoW: Forever game version are handled in the Battle.net desktop app; a physical copy, optional digital upgrade or paid repair utility is not required.
- Install or update the Battle.net desktop app for your operating system.
- Sign in to the account with an active subscription or Game Time.
- Choose World of Warcraft, select the WoW: Forever game version when presented, and start the installation.
- Confirm the destination SSD has at least 128 GB free before downloading.
- After installation, allow the launcher to complete updates before changing graphics options.
Blizzard recommends a keyboard and mouse, including a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel. Controller support is described as beta-state, so a gamepad may work but should not be treated as the primary supported input for troubleshooting.
What are Classic and Enhanced, and which should I choose?
On first login, Blizzard offers two experience presets rather than measured performance tiers. Classic starts with simpler visuals, SD character models and a more traditional interface. Enhanced starts with higher visual fidelity, HD models and a more feature-rich default interface.
These labels change interface defaults as well as appearance, so they are not equivalent to a published low-versus-high FPS benchmark. Choose Classic if the traditional look and simpler interface suit you, or Enhanced if higher-detail models and visuals are more important. Blizzard says individual options can be changed later, so the first choice is not permanent.
Character-level HD or SD model selection changes appearance, not abilities or progression. A character can therefore use the visual style that is easiest to read without changing gameplay capabilities.

How do I set up WoW: Forever for smoother performance?
There is no primary benchmark establishing one universally best toggle or a guaranteed FPS gain for a particular setting. Use a controlled, reversible adjustment process on the computer that will run the game.

Check the OS version, CPU, exact GPU and video-memory amount, system RAM and free SSD space against the correct Windows or Mac table. Do not rely on the GPU architecture list alone.
- Update the platform. Install the current supported operating-system updates and graphics drivers. Blizzard’s pre-install guidance specifically calls for current OS and graphics drivers.
- Pick a starting profile. Select Classic or Enhanced according to visual preference. Record the resolution and any other defaults so changes can be reversed.
- Open the settings menu. Use Game Menu > Options, then the graphics and display pages. Confirm the display is running at a resolution your GPU can sustain; the published minimum display resolution is 1,280 × 720.
- Reproduce normal play. Compare the same type of activity each time, such as a crowded city, combat with multiple effects or an outdoor traversal route. A quiet empty area can hide a problem that appears in busy scenes.
- Change one visual option at a time. If the client exposes controls such as render scale, view distance, shadows, lighting, liquid detail or ray tracing, alter one control, play the same situation again and note whether motion feels more consistent. How can I tell whether the problem is low FPS or network lag?

- Confirm whether the Windows and Mac tables have changed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does WoW: Forever require a constant internet connection?
Blizzard lists broadband internet as a requirement, so an offline-only setup is not supported by the published specification. Connection quality is separate from graphics performance; a powerful GPU cannot correct an unstable link.
Can I use a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard?
Blizzard describes controller support as beta-state. A controller may be useful for some players, but keep a keyboard and mouse available when diagnosing menus, support issues or input problems.

Will lowering the resolution guarantee smoother play?
