The confirmed carryover from pre-launch character creation in World of Warcraft: Forever is your reserved character identity, especially the complete two-name combination. During Early Name Reservation, eligible players can create and reserve up to three characters total across all rulesets. Blizzard’s launch instructions tell players to create those characters with their chosen names for launch. Blizzard has not announced that levels, experience, gear, inventory, currency, quests, professions, reputations, or other progression made before launch will transfer. Treat the reservation as a way to secure your launch characters and names—not as a progression transfer.
What carries over from early character creation in WoW: Forever?
Early Name Reservation preserves the character slots and names you create for launch, subject to Blizzard’s rules and availability. The reservation is the part Blizzard has explicitly documented; everything beyond the character’s launch identity should be considered unconfirmed until Blizzard publishes a separate transfer rule.
Blizzard announced Early Name Reservations for October 27 through November 3, 2026. World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time. The reservation applies to the specific World of Warcraft account associated with an eligible purchase, such as the relevant digital upgrade or Collector’s Edition requirement described in Blizzard’s launch information.
What exactly is preserved?
The safest description is: your reserved full name and the pre-created launch character associated with it are preserved for launch. Blizzard’s announcement describes the reservation as an opportunity to secure names that will become part of your adventures, and its launch instructions tell eligible players to create up to three characters with their chosen names.

- Launch availability: The reservation is designed to let you enter launch with those characters available instead of competing for the same names after release.
This does not necessarily mean Blizzard has documented that every appearance setting, starting choice, or other field selected during the reservation is permanently immutable. If a particular customization matters to you, check the character-creation screen and any launch FAQ for the latest rule. The published material clearly promises the reserved identity and launch character creation; it does not provide a field-by-field persistence list.
Do pre-launch levels, gear, gold, or quest progress carry over?
Blizzard has not documented those transfers. Do not assume that any progression or possessions created before launch will be present when the live game opens.
| Pre-launch item | Launch carryover status | How to describe it accurately |
|---|---|---|
| Character name and reserved identity | Confirmed through Early Name Reservation | The full reserved name is intended for the launch character, subject to naming rules and availability. |
| Level and experience | Not documented | Blizzard has not announced an experience or level transfer. |
| Gear, bags, inventory, and currency | Not documented | Do not promise that equipment, items, or money will appear at launch. |
| Quest, story, or world progress | Not documented | Pre-launch completion is not a stated launch entitlement. |
| Professions, skills, reputations, and unlocks | Not documented | Assume these must be earned in the launch environment unless Blizzard says otherwise. |
| Character-specific rewards | Not documented | No published transfer rule covers rewards or other progression attached to a pre-launch character. |
“Not documented” is deliberately more precise than “impossible.” Blizzard could issue a later clarification, or a particular pre-launch environment could have its own reset policy. Until an official rule says otherwise, the useful planning assumption is that only the reserved character identity is confirmed.

Eligible players can reserve up to three characters total across all rulesets during Early Name Reservation. The limit is not three characters per ruleset.
| Example choice | Reservations remaining |
|---|---|
| One Normal character | Two |
| Two PvP characters | One, available for Normal, PvP, or Role-Play |
| One Normal, one PvP, one Role-Play | None |
| Three characters on one ruleset | None |
The cross-ruleset restriction applies specifically to Early Name Reservation. It should not be read as a universal statement about every future character limit or roster rule in WoW: Forever; those could be governed by separate systems.

How do WoW: Forever’s two-name character names work?
Each character uses two names rather than a single realm-bound name. Blizzard says the complete two-name combination must be unique within a region, while another character may use the same first name with a different second name.
For example, Arin Stormveil and Arin Duskwalker can coexist because their complete combinations differ. A second player cannot reserve the exact same two-name combination in that region. The name is first-come, first-served and must comply with Blizzard’s naming rules, so a desired combination is not guaranteed until the reservation succeeds.
Think of the pair as one identity for availability purposes. Reusing a popular first name does not by itself create a conflict, but changing only capitalization, punctuation, or a prohibited term will not bypass Blizzard’s naming rules.
Who is eligible for Early Name Reservation?
The reservation benefit is tied to the specific WoW account associated with an eligible World of Warcraft: Forever purchase. Blizzard’s launch material references the qualifying digital upgrade or Collector’s Edition purchase. Buying or possessing access on a different account does not automatically move the reservation benefit to your preferred account.
Before reserving a name, sign in to the account that will be used at launch and verify that the qualifying entitlement is attached to it. If multiple people share a household or several accounts are linked to the same Battle.net setup, confirm the exact account association rather than relying on the purchaser’s email address or a shared computer.

How do I reserve a character correctly before launch?
Complete the process before the November 3 deadline; waiting until launch day risks losing a first-come, first-served name.
- Use the qualifying account. Sign in to the WoW account connected to the eligible World of Warcraft: Forever purchase.
- Open Early Name Reservation. Use Blizzard’s in-game or account entry point for the reservation period, October 27–November 3, 2026.
- Select a ruleset. Choose Normal, PvP, or Role-Play, remembering that all three reservations share one account-wide cap.
- Build the complete name. Enter both the first and second names, not just the first name you want to protect.
- Review the name and ruleset. Check spelling, spaces, and compliance with Blizzard’s naming policy before confirming.
- Repeat only when needed. You may use up to three total reservations. Keep at least one slot if you are undecided about a later ruleset.
- Record the confirmation. Save the displayed character name and ruleset so you can identify the correct launch character later.
A successful reservation is not a promise that the name can be transferred to another account, region, or ruleset afterward. The published rules describe the reservation in the account and region where it was made; they do not promise cross-account or cross-region moves.
Do beta or pre-launch test characters become launch characters?
Not automatically. A test character and a character created through Early Name Reservation are different concepts unless Blizzard explicitly links them in a transfer announcement.
Do not treat beta levels, test-server gear, currency, completed quests, professions, or unlocks as launch progress. The reservation process is the documented route for securing a launch character identity. If Blizzard announces a separate beta-to-launch reward or transfer policy, that policy would control; the Early Name Reservation announcement by itself does not create one.
What if my reserved name is unavailable or rejected?
Names are first-come, first-served and must follow Blizzard’s naming rules. A name can therefore fail because another player secured the same complete two-name combination first, or because the wording violates the naming policy.

Try a different second name rather than assuming the first name is permanently lost. Because uniqueness applies to the complete pair, a distinctive second name can preserve the first name you wanted. If the reservation interface reports an account, entitlement, or service error, capture the message and use Blizzard’s current support channel; do not create a replacement reservation on an unintended account while troubleshooting.
What should I plan for on November 4?
Plan on using your reserved characters as named launch starting points, but plan to earn gameplay progress again unless Blizzard publishes a contrary rule before release.
- Confirm that each reservation appears on the same account you will use at launch.
- Keep a note of each complete two-name combination and its ruleset.
- Do not spend pre-launch currency or items assuming they will be available after the servers open.
- Expect level, quest, profession, reputation, gear, and inventory status to require confirmation rather than assumption.
- Remember the scheduled global launch time: November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST.
If Blizzard updates the transfer rules after the reservation window, the later official announcement supersedes this planning guidance. In the absence of such an update, the reservation is best understood as identity protection, not a head start in character progression.

| Your priority | Best use of a reservation | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Protect a rare name | Reserve the full two-name combination as soon as the window opens. | Another player may claim it first, and naming rules still apply. |
| Try several rulesets | Allocate the three slots deliberately across Normal, PvP, and Role-Play. | The cap is shared; two choices on one ruleset leave only one elsewhere. |
| Keep pre-launch progress | Do not rely on Early Name Reservation for this purpose. | Levels, gear, currency, quests, and other progression are unconfirmed. |
| Finalize appearance or build later | Use the reservation to secure the identity, then verify what can be edited at launch. | Blizzard’s published instructions do not provide a complete persistence list for every customization field. |
Bottom line: what carries over?
World of Warcraft: Forever’s confirmed pre-launch carryover is the Early Name Reservation: up to three launch characters total, with their reserved two-name identities, on the eligible account. The names are first-come, first-served, region-unique as complete combinations, and subject to Blizzard’s naming rules. Blizzard has not documented transfer of levels, experience, gear, inventory, currency, quests, professions, reputations, unlocks, or other progression, so treat any such transfer as unconfirmed until an official update says otherwise.

Can I reserve three characters on every WoW: Forever ruleset?
No. The Early Name Reservation limit is three characters total across Normal, PvP, and Role-Play. Using two reservations on one ruleset leaves only one reservation for all remaining rulesets.

Is a first name alone enough to reserve a WoW: Forever name?
No. Each character has a first name and a second name, and the complete combination must be unique within the region. Another character can share the first name if the second name makes the full combination different.
Can I move a reserved character to another account or region?
Blizzard’s published reservation information does not promise account transfers or cross-region movement. Make the reservation on the exact account and region you intend to use at launch.
What happens if I miss the Early Name Reservation deadline?
The documented reservation window ends November 3, 2026, before the November 4 launch. After that window, Blizzard’s first-come, first-served naming rules may still apply, but the published material does not promise the same reservation opportunity.

Will my character’s appearance be identical at launch?
Blizzard confirms the reserved launch character and name, but its published instructions do not list persistence for every customization field. Check the final launch interface or a later official clarification for any appearance-specific rule.
