The World of Warcraft: Forever beta is closed as of October 29, 2026. Blizzard ran it from September 17 through October 21, 2026, so the beta option should not be expected in Battle.net today unless Blizzard announces a new test. For a future beta, access normally comes from an official opt-in selection or an explicitly qualifying digital bundle. Once Blizzard flags your Battle.net account, installation is handled in the Battle.net desktop app: choose World of Warcraft, open Game Version, select the beta under In Development, install it, and launch into a test realm.

At a glance

Name Best for Key spec Free plan / price Platforms Checked
Official opt-in selection Players willing to wait for an invitation Access is conditional; opting in does not guarantee selection No purchase requirement stated Battle.net desktop app on PC Oct 2026
Qualifying digital bundle Players buying a Blizzard bundle that explicitly includes beta access Beta access is included only when Blizzard identifies the bundle as eligible Paid digital product; price depends on the offer Battle.net desktop app on PC Oct 2026
Public stress test Players during a separately announced open test window Temporary access can be available without a subscription, game time, invitation, or beta flag No subscription or game-time purchase during the announced window Battle.net desktop app on PC Oct 2026

The stress-test row describes Blizzard’s October 21, 2026 event, which has ended. It is not a standing way to enter the closed beta.

Is the World of Warcraft beta available now?

No. Blizzard’s published schedule puts the World of Warcraft: Forever beta between September 17 and October 21, 2026. The limited public stress test also took place on October 21, so neither route provides current access on October 29.

Beta availability is controlled by Blizzard and can change with a new announcement. Treat a future test as a separate event: check the current Blizzard announcement, confirm the dates, and follow the access terms stated for that test rather than assuming the Forever rules still apply.

How do I get into the WoW beta?

For the Forever test, Blizzard used two legitimate routes: opt in and wait for possible selection, or obtain a digital bundle that Blizzard specifically marked as including beta access. Both routes ultimately attach access to a Battle.net account.

Opt in and wait for selection

Blizzard allowed players to register interest through the official beta opt-in process. Opting in put an account into the selection pool; it was not a promise of access. Invitations could be issued in waves, so a player who opted in might not see a beta license immediately.

When a new beta is announced, use only the opt-in control on Blizzard’s official World of Warcraft or Battle.net page. Sign in with the Battle.net account you intend to use for the test, keep that account secure, and monitor the account itself rather than relying on an email alone.

Buy a qualifying digital bundle only when Blizzard says it includes access

Blizzard identified certain World of Warcraft: Forever digital bundles as including beta access. This was a digital-product offer, not a physical purchase requirement. A bundle provides the expected route only when the specific offer is described by Blizzard as eligible; buying an unrelated game edition or a physical item does not establish beta access.

Blizzard noted that an eligible bundle purchase could take up to 30 minutes to appear. If the license is not visible after that period, completely restart the Battle.net desktop app and check the account again before troubleshooting the client.

How the two routes differ

  • Guarantee: opt-in selection is conditional. A qualifying bundle can include access when Blizzard explicitly says it does.
  • Cost: the opt-in route had no stated purchase requirement. A bundle is a paid digital product, with the price determined by Blizzard’s offer.
  • Timing: invitations and account flags can arrive in waves. A public stress test, if Blizzard announces one, has a fixed start and end window.
  • Security: both routes must resolve to the official Battle.net account and launcher. An email by itself is not proof.
  • Installation: once the account is enabled, the Battle.net installation workflow is substantially the same regardless of how access was obtained.

Where do I sign up for the World of Warcraft beta?

Sign-up is performed through Blizzard’s official beta opt-in page for the particular test. Because Blizzard changes the page and the beta name for each expansion or event, do not reuse an old bookmark or assume that an earlier opt-in remains active.

  1. Open the current Blizzard announcement for the beta you want to join.
  2. Use the official opt-in control and sign in to the Battle.net account you plan to play on.
  3. Submit the opt-in request and keep the account credentials secure.
  4. Wait for Blizzard to select accounts. An opt-in confirmation means the request was recorded, not that the account has been invited.
  5. When you receive an invitation notice, verify the license inside Battle.net before downloading anything.

If the announcement lists a qualifying digital bundle, read the eligibility wording carefully. Access is tied to the Battle.net account used for the purchase, and Blizzard’s stated delay can be as long as 30 minutes before a launcher restart is needed.

How can I tell whether my Battle.net account has beta access?

Check the account directly. Blizzard advises signing in to Battle.net and looking under Your Game Accounts for the relevant beta license. This account record is more reliable than an email claim.

  • Sign in to the official Battle.net account page or the Battle.net desktop app.
  • Open Your Game Accounts and look for the named beta license.
  • In the desktop app, select World of Warcraft and inspect the Game Version menu.
  • If the beta appears under In Development, the account is flagged and the client can be installed.

If neither the account page nor the launcher shows a beta license, do not attempt to force the installation with a third-party installer. Confirm that you used the same Battle.net account for the opt-in or bundle purchase, allow the stated account-update delay, and contact Blizzard support if the official account record still does not match your eligibility.

How do I install the WoW beta client?

Install only after the beta license is visible on the account. Blizzard’s recurring launcher sequence is the following; the exact beta name can change between tests.

  1. Update your graphics driver. Blizzard lists a current graphics driver as a getting-started requirement and a first troubleshooting check.
  2. Open the Battle.net desktop app. Allow the app to update itself. If it requests a restart, restart it before selecting the game.
  3. Select World of Warcraft. Use the game list in the left side of the launcher.
  4. Open Game Version. The menu is above the main Play button.
  5. Choose the beta. Select the named test build listed under In Development. The label is specific to that expansion or event.
  6. Click Install. Choose the installation location if the launcher asks, then wait for the download and file verification to finish.
  7. Launch and enter a realm. Click Play, choose an available test realm, create a test character when prompted, and enter the game.

The beta is a separate test client selection in the launcher. Seeing the normal live-game version does not mean the account lacks the game; it means the beta selection is not currently enabled or has not been chosen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should happen after installation?

The launcher should replace Install with Play for the selected beta version. On first launch, the test may present a realm list and character-creation flow rather than your live-game characters. Test realms, characters, and progress are subject to the rules of that particular beta and should not be treated as permanent live-game data.

Why don’t I see the beta in Battle.net?

The most common causes are a closed test, an account that was not selected, a delayed bundle license, an outdated launcher, or a driver problem. Work through these checks in order.

1. Confirm that the test is still open

For Forever, the official availability window ended October 21, 2026. If the test has ended, the beta entry can disappear or become unusable; reinstalling the launcher will not reopen it.

2. Check the account flag

Look under Your Game Accounts. If the beta license is absent, the problem is access rather than a missing local file. Verify the Battle.net account used for the opt-in or eligible bundle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Allow the bundle activation window

For an eligible digital bundle, Blizzard allowed up to 30 minutes for access to appear. After that interval, close and restart Battle.net, then check the account and the Game Version menu again.

4. Update and restart Battle.net

Let the desktop app finish any pending update. A restart refreshes the account licenses and can make a newly granted beta option appear.

5. Update graphics drivers

Install the current driver supplied for your graphics hardware, restart the computer if the driver installer requests it, and then reopen Battle.net. Blizzard specifically includes current graphics drivers in its getting-started guidance.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

6. Use Blizzard’s technical-issues guidance

If the account is flagged but the download or launch fails, follow Blizzard’s Common Technical Issues and Solutions resource. Record the exact error, whether the failure occurs during download or launch, and which Battle.net account shows the license; those details separate an account problem from a local installation problem.

How can I tell whether a WoW beta invitation is real?

Do not use the email as the deciding evidence. Blizzard’s safe procedure is to open Battle.net yourself, sign in, and verify that the beta license appears under Your Game Accounts.

  • Do not click an unsolicited installer, attachment, or shortened download link.
  • Open the Battle.net desktop app from its normal shortcut and check the World of Warcraft Game Version menu.
  • Use the official Blizzard account site by entering its address yourself rather than following a suspicious message.
  • Ignore messages demanding a password, payment, or another login to “unlock” an invitation.
  • If the license is not visible in Battle.net, treat the message as unverified and report it through Blizzard’s support or abuse channels.

A genuine invitation directs selected players to download the client through the Battle.net desktop app. The launcher and the account license—not the wording, logo, or sender name in an email—are the authoritative checks.

Can I play the WoW beta without an invitation?

Normally, you need either an account selected through the official opt-in process or a qualifying offer that includes access. Blizzard made a temporary exception on October 21, 2026, when anyone could join the public stress test without a subscription, game time, invitation, or existing beta access.

That stress-test window has ended. A future open test would require a new Blizzard announcement with its own dates and conditions; do not assume that a past public event grants continuing access.

What should I know before installing a future beta?

  • Use the correct account: access is granted to a Battle.net account, not automatically to every account on a computer.
  • Expect changing labels: Blizzard’s historical instructions use the same In Development menu, but the beta’s displayed name changes with the expansion or test.
  • Keep the launcher current: an outdated Battle.net app can fail to refresh a newly granted license.
  • Update drivers before diagnosing downloads: this is part of Blizzard’s own getting-started checklist.
  • Separate access from installation: a missing beta entry means the account flag or test status must be resolved; reinstalling files cannot create eligibility.
  • Expect test-specific rules: realm availability, character creation, progress, and maintenance schedules belong to the individual beta announcement.

What is the safest way to prepare for the next WoW beta?

Use Blizzard’s announcement as the source of truth, opt in with the Battle.net account you intend to use, and check the account license periodically. If Blizzard offers a qualifying digital bundle, confirm the exact product description before purchasing and allow the stated activation delay. When access appears, update the graphics driver and Battle.net, then install from the World of Warcraft Game Version menu under In Development.

That process avoids the two most common mistakes: paying for an offer that does not include beta access and downloading a malicious “beta client” from an email or unofficial site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does WoW beta access move to another Battle.net account?

Blizzard describes access as an account flag. Use the account that was selected or used for the eligible purchase; there is no stated transfer procedure in the beta instructions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How long should a qualifying bundle take to unlock the beta?

Blizzard says activation can take up to 30 minutes. After that, restart the Battle.net desktop app and check Your Game Accounts again.

Is the beta client separate from the live World of Warcraft installation?

The launcher exposes the test as a distinct choice in the Game Version menu under In Development. The displayed beta name and files can change for each test.

Can I trust an email that says I was selected for the beta?

Treat the message only as a notification. Verify the beta license in Battle.net under Your Game Accounts and download through the desktop app rather than an email link or attachment.

Do I need a paid subscription to join every WoW beta?

The Forever opt-in instructions did not state a subscription requirement, while the October 21 public stress test explicitly required neither subscription nor game time. Future tests can set different conditions, so check the current announcement.
