Wix is usually the better fit when you need a branded, owned website that also handles event registration and tickets. Eventbrite is usually the better fit when event publishing, attendee registration, organizer tools, and the platform’s stated marketplace discovery are more important than owning the entire web experience. They are not identical products: Wix starts with a website builder and adds event management, while Eventbrite starts with event listings and ticketing. Your decision should therefore consider site ownership, audience acquisition, ticket features, country-specific fees, payment processing, and the work you expect to do after the event. Neither service can be declared universally cheaper or proven to sell more tickets from the available vendor information.

What is the real difference between Wix and Eventbrite?

Wix puts event tools inside a customizable website. Eventbrite puts event publishing and ticketing at the center of its product. That difference affects how people find your event, what your event page can look like, how much of your organization’s web presence you control, and which fees you pay.

With Wix, an event can be one section of a broader site containing your organization’s home page, services, blog, contact forms, donation information, and multiple events. With Eventbrite, the event listing, registration flow, attendee communication, and organizer dashboard are the primary experience. Eventbrite also describes a marketplace where local buyers can discover events, although its materials do not establish how many additional attendees any particular event will receive.

Both products support free and paid attendance. Both provide event information, ticket or registration management, attendee lists, and check-in capabilities. They differ in emphasis rather than in whether basic ticketing is possible.

How do Wix and Eventbrite compare feature by feature?

Use this table as a first-pass map. Individual features, plans, currencies, and payment options can change by country and account.

Decision axis Wix Eventbrite
Primary role Website builder with event-management features on the organizer’s site. Event publishing and ticketing platform with organizer and discovery tools.
Event presentation Customizable event website, layouts, calendars, and wider site branding. Event page with listing, ticket, registration, and event-information controls.
Tickets and attendance Ticket types, RSVPs, seating maps, ticket PDFs, guest lists, and app-based check-in. Free, paid, or donation tickets; add-ons, custom registration forms, reserved seating, and mobile check-in.
Discovery and marketing Email campaigns, coupons, social integrations, and broader website marketing tools. Marketplace listing, ads, email campaigns, social-ad tools, promo codes, smart audiences, and reporting; some paid features have availability limits.
Headline fee information Wix states a 2.5% ticket service fee. A Business Premium plan and a payment method are required for paid ticket sales; the payment provider adds its own processing charge. Free tickets have no ticketing fee. Paid-ticket fees vary by country and currency. The U.S. standard example shown by Eventbrite is 3.7% plus $1.79 per paid ticket, and 2.9% of the total order for processing.
Best first question Do you need a complete owned website as well as ticketing? Is event publishing and the platform’s stated discovery reach important to finding attendees?

Which platform is better for a branded organization website?

Choose Wix when your event is part of a continuing web presence. You can design the event pages to match your logo, navigation, typography, colors, and other pages, then keep using the same site after the event ends. That is useful for clubs, venues, nonprofits, instructors, companies, and recurring conference organizers that need more than a registration page.

The trade-off is responsibility. You must configure the site, maintain its content, connect a payment method, and make sure the event journey is easy to find on mobile. Wix’s event features do not remove the need for a clear information architecture or a promotion plan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Eventbrite can still present your event professionally, but the listing is primarily an Eventbrite experience rather than a complete owned website. You can link to your main site and use the listing for registration, yet the event page does not replace a full set of organization pages, long-term content, or a custom site structure.

Is Eventbrite better for event discovery?

Eventbrite is the more natural choice when you want event publishing and the platform’s stated marketplace visibility to be part of your distribution plan. Its organizer materials describe marketplace discovery, ads, email campaigns, social-ad tools, promotional codes, audience tools, and reporting.

Those capabilities can make it easier to publish an event in a format people already use for event searches. They do not guarantee ranking, impressions, registrations, or a particular attendance level. The available vendor information does not provide an independent, comparable conversion study against Wix, so do not treat marketplace inclusion as a promise of more sales.

Wix gives you control of the destination and lets you promote through your own email list, social accounts, search content, coupons, and other site marketing. That approach is strongest when you already have an audience or are willing to build one. It also leaves discovery work—search visibility, partnerships, advertising, and outreach—more directly in your hands.

Can you sell tickets with Wix?

Yes. Wix supports free RSVPs and tickets, as well as paid tickets. Wix says paid ticket sales require a Business Premium plan and a connected payment method. Free tickets do not require upgrading to a paid plan according to its help documentation.

  1. Create or select your event. Add the event name, date, time, location or online details, description, organizer information, and attendance limits.
  2. Choose the registration model. Use an RSVP for no-charge attendance, or create paid ticket types with names, prices, quantities, and sales windows.
  3. Configure attendance details. Add custom registration fields when you need dietary information, organization names, consent, or other details. If your plan supports it, configure seating maps and reserved areas.
  4. Connect payment. Select a supported payment provider and complete its account verification. Provider processing rates are separate from Wix’s ticket service fee.
  5. Review the checkout. Test the event page, ticket selection, confirmation message, payment flow, email receipt, and mobile layout before publishing.
  6. Publish and check in guests. Wix provides guest-list management, ticket PDFs, and app-based check-in options described in its event materials. Brief staff on how to handle duplicate, transferred, or manually added attendees.

Wix states a 2.5% ticket service fee. You can pass that fee to buyers or absorb it. The stated percentage is not the same as payment processing, and the site or plan subscription is a separate cost.

How does Eventbrite ticketing work?

Eventbrite lets you publish free, paid, or donation ticket types and manage registration from an event-focused dashboard. It also describes add-ons, custom registration forms, reserved seating, promo codes, and mobile check-in.

  1. Start an event listing. Enter the title, dates, venue or online location, description, images, organizer details, and attendee-facing policies.
  2. Set ticket types. Create free, paid, donation, early-bird, VIP, or other ticket categories. Set quantities, prices, sale periods, and any applicable fees.
  3. Collect registration data. Add required questions only when you need them; unnecessary fields increase checkout friction. Use custom forms for information that staff genuinely need.
  4. Add event controls. Configure reserved seating, add-ons, discount or promo codes, confirmation messages, and attendee communications where available to your account.
  5. Choose fee handling. Eventbrite says buyers pay ticketing fees by default, but organizers can choose to absorb them. Confirm the setting before announcing a price.
  6. Publish, monitor, and check in. Use the dashboard and mobile check-in tools to monitor registrations, communicate updates, and verify entry at the venue.

Publishing a free event is free, and Eventbrite says free tickets incur no ticketing fees. Paid events use a country- and currency-dependent schedule, so the amount displayed during event setup is the relevant quote for your account.

What do Wix and Eventbrite charge?

There is no reliable universal “cheapest” answer. Compare the complete cost for your country, currency, ticket price, order size, payment setup, subscription plan, taxes, and who absorbs the fees.

Cost component Wix Eventbrite
Free event or ticket Free tickets and RSVPs are supported; Wix says a paid-plan upgrade is not required for free tickets. Event publishing is free and free tickets have no ticketing fees.
Service fee Wix states 2.5% of ticket sales. Varies by country and currency. U.S. example: 3.7% plus $1.79 for each paid ticket.
Payment processing Set by the selected payment provider and added separately. Varies by market. U.S. example: 2.9% of the total order.
Subscription or plan requirement Paid ticket sales require a Business Premium plan and a payment method, according to Wix’s help information. Use the plan and feature terms shown in your Eventbrite account; paid-feature availability can vary.
Fee payer You can pass Wix’s service fee to buyers or absorb it. Buyers pay fees by default; organizers can choose to absorb them.

How the U.S. fee examples work

Suppose one U.S. attendee buys a $50 ticket and there is no tax or additional order item. Wix’s stated service fee would be $1.25, before the payment provider’s processing charge and any plan cost. Eventbrite’s displayed U.S. example would be a $3.64 service fee ($1.85, or 3.7% of $50, plus $1.79). Its 2.9% processing calculation applies to the total order, including applicable service fees and tax; with no tax, that is approximately $1.56 on $53.64, for about $5.20 in combined fees if the organizer absorbs them. This is an illustration of the published formula, not a quote for every event.

Fixed per-ticket charges matter more for inexpensive tickets, while percentage charges matter more as prices rise. Multiple tickets in one order can also change the result because Eventbrite’s service charge is per paid ticket while processing is based on the total order. Recalculate using your actual ticket mix and the checkout estimate for your market.

How do free events compare?

For a genuinely free event, both services can handle registration without a ticket-price fee. Wix says free tickets and RSVPs do not require a paid-plan upgrade, while Eventbrite says event publishing and free tickets have no ticketing fees.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The practical difference is not the ticket price but the surrounding setup. Wix may still be attractive if you already need a paid website plan for other pages. Eventbrite may be attractive if you want a dedicated event listing and attendee workflow without building a separate site. Check email limits, payment verification, custom fields, check-in needs, and any plan-specific marketing features before deciding.

Which platform handles seating, registration, and check-in better?

Both platforms cover common attendance operations, but the interface and feature availability depend on the account and event configuration. Wix describes ticket types, RSVPs, seating maps, ticket PDFs, guest lists, and app-based check-in. Eventbrite describes free, paid, and donation tickets, add-ons, custom registration forms, reserved seating, and mobile check-in.

Choose based on the workflow your staff will actually use. A seated venue should test seat selection, capacity rules, refunds, and entry scanning with a small internal event. A workshop should test custom questions, attendee exports, confirmation emails, and the process for editing an attendee’s information. Do not assume that a feature named on a product page is included in every plan or country; verify it in your account before selling tickets.

How do payment timing and payouts differ?

Payment timing is an operational issue, especially when you must pay a venue, caterer, speaker, or supplier before the event. Eventbrite says payout usually starts three days after an event, or follows a custom schedule selected by the organizer; the bank may take additional time to post the funds.

For Wix, the timing depends on the payment provider connected to your site and its verification and payout rules. Check that provider’s settlement schedule, reserve policy, refund process, and supported currency before committing ticket revenue to expenses. In either system, retain a cash buffer for refunds, disputes, taxes, and last-minute costs.

Which platform gives you more marketing control?

Wix gives you one place to coordinate the event with your owned content. You can place registration calls to action on your home page, publish supporting articles, send email campaigns, offer coupons, and connect social channels. This is valuable when attendees need context such as schedules, speaker biographies, accessibility details, travel information, or related services.

Eventbrite concentrates event promotion around the listing and organizer tools. Its materials mention marketplace visibility, ads, email campaigns, social-ad tools, promo codes, smart audiences, and reporting, with some paid features varying by availability. That concentration can simplify campaign setup for an event team, but it does not remove the need to supply accurate content, respond to attendee questions, and measure which channels produced registrations.

In both cases, use a consistent campaign plan: define one public price, label any buyer-paid fee clearly, use a unique promotion code per channel, and review registrations against capacity at regular intervals. Avoid changing ticket names or prices without documenting how existing buyers will be treated.

How should a business choose between Wix and Eventbrite?

Start with the problem you need solved, not the feature checklist. Use the following decision branches.

Choose Wix when these statements are true

  • Your organization needs a branded website beyond one event.
  • You want event pages, calendars, content, and registration under one domain and navigation system.
  • You already have, or plan to build, an audience through your own site, email list, social channels, or search content.
  • You can budget for the Business Premium requirement and payment-provider processing for paid tickets.
  • You want to reuse the site for future events, services, memberships, or informational content.

Choose Eventbrite when these statements are true

  • The event listing and registration workflow are the center of your project.
  • You value the platform’s stated marketplace discovery alongside your own promotion.
  • You need event-oriented tools such as ticket types, donation tickets, add-ons, custom forms, reserved seating, promo codes, and mobile check-in.
  • You prefer a dedicated organizer dashboard instead of maintaining a broader website.
  • You have compared the country-specific paid-ticket fees and accept the resulting buyer or organizer cost.

Consider using both only with a clear division of labor

A business can use a Wix site as its public information hub and send visitors to an Eventbrite listing for registration, but that creates two systems to keep synchronized. Decide which page is authoritative for dates, prices, refunds, accessibility, and capacity. Duplicate information can drift, and a mismatch at checkout is more damaging than a modest design difference.

What should you check before publishing tickets?

Run this pre-launch checklist regardless of platform:

  • Confirm the event’s time zone, venue address, online access instructions, and refund policy.
  • Set a capacity that matches fire, seating, staffing, and online-room limits.
  • Test a free or discounted internal ticket and verify the confirmation, receipt, calendar file, and check-in record.
  • Calculate the buyer’s final amount, including service fees, processing, taxes, and any add-ons.
  • Decide whether the organizer or attendee pays each fee, then display that choice before checkout.
  • Check the event on a phone, including ticket selection, registration fields, payment, and confirmation.
  • Limit required questions to information staff will use.
  • Assign someone to monitor cancellations, duplicate registrations, failed payments, and attendee support.
  • Export or otherwise retain the attendee information you are entitled to keep, following your privacy obligations.
  • Train every check-in worker and prepare a manual fallback for poor connectivity or a dead phone.

What are the most common mistakes?

The most expensive mistake is comparing only the headline percentage. Include fixed per-ticket fees, order-level processing, tax, subscription cost, refunds, and the fee payer. A second mistake is assuming marketplace visibility equals guaranteed demand; neither vendor information establishes a sales result for your event.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Another common problem is choosing a platform before defining the attendee journey. If people need extensive background information, schedules, and post-event resources, a full website may be important. If they mainly need to discover an event, select a ticket, answer a few questions, and receive a mobile pass, an event-focused listing may be sufficient.

Finally, verify volatile details immediately before launch. Fee schedules, supported payment providers, plan names, feature availability, and payout rules can change by country, currency, and account.

Is Wix or Eventbrite cheaper in 2026?

Neither can be called cheaper in every case. Wix has a stated 2.5% ticket service fee but requires a Business Premium plan for paid sales and adds payment-provider processing. Eventbrite has no ticketing fee for free tickets, while paid-ticket fees vary and the U.S. example combines a per-ticket service charge with order-level processing.

For a final decision, enter your real ticket prices, quantities, tax treatment, country, expected order size, payment method, subscription cost, and fee-absorption choice into each platform’s current checkout or account estimate. Compare the amount paid by attendees, the net amount you receive, and the work required to maintain the event after launch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the bottom-line choice?

Pick Wix for an owned, branded website whose event tools are one part of a larger digital presence. Pick Eventbrite when event publishing, registration operations, and the platform’s stated discovery tools are the central need. Treat fees, payout timing, and feature availability as country- and account-specific, and do not expect either product to guarantee attendance without your own promotion and a well-designed event offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I embed Eventbrite tickets on a Wix website?

A common approach is to keep the organization’s information pages on Wix and direct visitors to an Eventbrite registration page or embedded checkout when the account supports that setup. Before launch, decide which system owns the price, capacity, refund policy, and attendee record so that updates do not conflict.

Does Eventbrite charge fees for free events?

Eventbrite states that publishing is free and that free tickets incur no ticketing fees. You may still have separate costs for advertising, paid features, venue services, or other event operations that are not ticketing fees.

Can Wix handle an event without a paid plan?

Wix’s help information says free tickets and RSVPs do not require a paid-plan upgrade. Paid ticket sales require a Business Premium plan and a connected payment method, and the payment provider’s processing charge is separate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When does Eventbrite pay an organizer?

Eventbrite says payout usually starts three days after the event or follows a custom schedule selected by the organizer. Your bank may take additional time to post the transfer, so confirm the schedule before relying on ticket revenue for pre-event bills.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
