Witchbrook is scheduled for a digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 launch on January 28, 2027. Chucklefish has announced a $24.99 digital launch price, although regional prices will vary. You can pre-order only if your own Nintendo eShop listing shows Nintendo’s Proceed to pre-order button; a Wish list now control is not a pre-order. The US listing estimates 1.2 GB for each Switch generation, while an Australian listing estimates 1.1 GB, so check your regional listing and leave room for updates. This guide explains how to verify the correct console version, pre-order and pre-load safely, download after launch, and manage storage on both the original Switch family and Switch 2.
When does Witchbrook release on Nintendo Switch?
Chucklefish and co-developer Robotality announced January 28, 2027, for Witchbrook on PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5. The publisher’s current release information supersedes older Witchbrook pages that still show a 2026 date. January 28 is a scheduled release date, not evidence that the game has already shipped.
The announced digital launch price is $24.99 in the United States. Chucklefish says regional prices will be provided separately, so do not convert $24.99 into a guaranteed price for another country. The Standard and Collector’s physical editions are planned for after the initial digital launch, but Chucklefish has not yet specified their platforms, cartridge format, retailers, or order dates. In particular, there is no confirmed launch-day Switch cartridge listing to rely on.
For the publisher’s date and edition information, see the official Witchbrook release announcement.

Can I pre-order Witchbrook on Switch yet?
Only your region’s live Nintendo listing can answer that. The Australian Switch listing observed for this guide says Wish list now. The retrieved US Switch 2 page identifies a digital edition but did not expose an actionable pre-order button in its accessible text. Those observations do not prove that every country’s eShop has the same status.
Use this check rather than assuming that an announcement means pre-orders are open:
- Open the Nintendo eShop on your console, or search Nintendo’s website for Witchbrook.
- Confirm that the listing matches your hardware: original Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED, or Nintendo Switch 2. A Switch 2-labelled product page is not automatically the original-Switch product.
- Check the Nintendo Account region and currency shown by the listing. Store availability, price, and purchase controls can differ by country.
- Read the main action button. A wishlist control lets Nintendo notify or surface the game later; it does not place an order.
- Proceed only if the listing offers Nintendo’s exact Proceed to pre-order button, then follow the checkout prompts.
Nintendo’s generic eligible-title procedure is documented in its pre-order support article. Do not rely on an invented opening date, bonus item, retailer listing, or tracked link for Witchbrook.

Nintendo says payment for an eligible digital pre-order is processed no earlier than seven days before release. After payment, the console can perform a non-playable pre-load. The seven-day wording is Nintendo’s general policy, not a promise that Witchbrook will begin pre-loading at one exact time or on January 21.
A pre-loaded game appears on the HOME Menu but cannot launch until the release date. Nintendo also says a small unlock update may be required at launch. Keep the console connected to the internet and powered or charging if you want the download and final unlock to complete automatically.
You can cancel a pre-order before Nintendo processes payment and before the pre-load begins, subject to Nintendo’s regional terms. If the payment attempt fails, Nintendo says the pre-order can be cancelled. Check the payment method and account balance before the processing window instead of assuming a failed charge will be retried indefinitely.
For the distinction between a pre-order, pre-load, and playable release, use Nintendo’s official pre-order guidance.

For an ordinary purchase made after release, Nintendo starts the download after checkout. A pre-order follows the earlier payment and pre-load process, then requires the release-day unlock. In either case, you need a Nintendo Account, eShop access, an internet connection, and enough available storage.

- Open the Nintendo eShop with the Nintendo Account that owns the purchase.
- Search for Witchbrook and select the listing for your console generation.
- Review the region, price, estimated size, player information, and version before confirming.
- Complete payment. If the game has released, the download should begin; if it was pre-loaded, wait for the release-day unlock update.
- Watch the download indicator on the HOME Menu. Avoid archiving or deleting the title while the download is still in progress.
If the purchased game is not visible, Nintendo recommends checking the HOME download indicator, testing the internet connection, and opening System Settings > Data Management to verify free space. On current systems, also open Virtual Game Cards and look for the title in the list of software that can be redownloaded. This is Nintendo’s general recovery path, not evidence of a Witchbrook-specific bug.
How large is Witchbrook on Switch?
The US Nintendo listing estimates 1.2 GB for Nintendo Switch and 1.2 GB for Switch 2. An Australian Nintendo listing estimates 1.1 GB for each system. Both figures are explicitly estimates from regional store pages, so they should not be treated as a final measured install size. Regional listing data can change, and launch or later updates can require additional space.
| Source and region | Original Switch estimate | Switch 2 estimate | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| US Nintendo listing | 1.2 GB | 1.2 GB | Current US store estimate; not a final installed footprint |
| Australian Nintendo listing | 1.1 GB | 1.1 GB | Different regional estimate; check your own eShop |
Before purchasing, open the game’s details page in your own eShop and check the displayed size. Leave practical headroom beyond that number for patches, temporary download files, and other games. The estimates do not establish that a cartridge purchase will be required, nor do they indicate a measured download time.
How do I check and free storage on an original Switch, Lite, or OLED?
On the original Switch family, check capacity at System Settings > Data Management. The screen shows available system and microSD storage and identifies which software occupies space.
Archive software when you want to keep the icon and save data
Select a game under Data Management > Manage Software, then choose Archive Software. Archiving removes the downloaded program data but leaves its HOME Menu icon and save data in place. Selecting the icon later redownloads the software, provided you use the purchasing Nintendo Account and have an internet connection.
Quick Archive in Data Management can handle multiple titles. It is useful when Witchbrook needs space but you want a visible list of games that can be restored. Archive is usually the least disruptive option for a large backlog.
Delete software when you do not need the icon
Deleting downloadable software also leaves save data unaffected, but removes the game’s HOME Menu icon. You can redownload a purchased title later from the eShop or Virtual Game Cards. Delete is therefore different from deleting save data; do not choose a save-data option if you intend to preserve progress.
Move eligible software to a microSD card
For compatible installed software, use Data Management > Move Data Between System / microSD Card. Original Switch hardware accepts microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards. Nintendo specifies microSDXC support up to 2 TB, with a system update required before using a microSDXC card.

Downloadable game software can be stored on the card, but game saves remain in system memory. Moving software does not move save data, and removing the card does not create a backup of saves. Switch games can also require free system space for updates even when their main program is on the card, so do not fill every last byte.
Nintendo explains these archive, delete, and move choices in its downloadable-software storage guide.
Does Switch 2 use the same microSD card?
No. Nintendo Switch 2 requires a microSD Express card for removable storage of downloadable games. An ordinary microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC card used in an original Switch cannot serve as Switch 2 game storage. Look specifically for the microSD Express standard instead of relying on the word “microSD” in a product title.
Switch 2 supports microSD Express cards up to 2 TB. To move eligible installed software, open System Settings > Data Management > Move System / microSD Express Card Data. Nintendo notes that some update data and game saves cannot be moved. Its FAQ states: “Game save data cannot be copied to a microSD Express card.”
Switch 2 includes 256 GB of built-in storage, with part of that capacity reserved for system use. The US and Australian Witchbrook estimates are small relative to that capacity, so expansion is optional for this game unless your actual free space is low or you keep a large library installed. Buy a Switch 2 microSD Express card only after checking System Settings > Data Management; do not buy an ordinary Switch microSD card expecting it to work for game storage.
See Nintendo’s microSD Express FAQ for card and transfer limitations.
What is the difference between digital launch and the future physical editions?
The currently announced launch plan is digital. Chucklefish says Standard and Collector’s Editions are planned after the initial digital release, but has not yet confirmed whether those editions will include Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, or both, nor whether a particular edition will use a full game card or another delivery format.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThat means a future retailer page should not be treated as an active order opportunity until the publisher names the platform and provides purchase details. If you want to play on January 28, the confirmed route described by the current information is the regional digital eShop listing. If you prefer physical media, wait for platform, format, date, and regional availability to be stated rather than assuming a later edition is a launch-day cartridge.

Which Switch version and multiplayer details should I check?
Nintendo has listings for both generations. Before buying, verify the product title and console compatibility, especially when searching on a phone or computer where the Switch 2 page may appear first. Do not assume that a Switch 2-labelled digital product is the same listing as the original Switch version.
Nintendo’s product information lists one local player and one to four online players. Online play requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. That membership is not necessary for solo play, and neither an online subscription nor a storage card should be treated as a requirement merely to download the game.
What should I do if the download will not start or the game is missing?
Start with Nintendo’s general checks rather than assuming a Witchbrook fault:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Look at HOME: select the download indicator and confirm whether the title is queued, paused, or waiting for an update.
- Check connectivity: verify that the console can reach the eShop and that other downloads are not consuming the connection.
- Check free space: open System Settings > Data Management. Compare the available space with the current regional estimate and leave room for temporary files.
- Check the account: use the Nintendo Account that made the purchase and confirm the correct country/region eShop.
- Use Virtual Game Cards: look for Witchbrook among titles available to redownload.
- For a pre-order: confirm whether payment has been processed. A pre-load cannot launch before the release date, and an unsuccessful payment can cancel the order.
On launch day, a pre-loaded copy may still need a small unlock update. Keep the console online until that update completes. If you archived or deleted the software to make room, redownload it from the purchasing account after freeing space.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should I buy extra storage for Witchbrook?
Usually not solely for Witchbrook. The current regional estimates are about 1.1–1.2 GB, and the final size may change. First check your actual free space and the size of your wider library. A small cleanup or archive can be more sensible than purchasing a card for a single estimated-size game.
If you do need expansion, choose according to the console:
| Console | Correct expansion type | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED | microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC; microSDXC up to 2 TB with a system update | Save data remains in system memory |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | microSD Express, up to 2 TB | Ordinary microSD cards are not game-storage substitutes; saves cannot be copied to the card |
For an original Switch, the relevant product category is a Nintendo Switch microSDXC card. For Switch 2, it is a Nintendo Switch 2 microSD Express card. No particular brand or model is established as tested for Witchbrook, so select a card that meets Nintendo’s standard and capacity requirements rather than relying on an unverified compatibility claim.

Can I use an eShop gift card to pay for Witchbrook?
Nintendo supports eShop Cards as a way to add funds to a Nintendo Account. A gift card is a general funding method, not a Witchbrook-specific pre-order product, and it does not bypass regional pricing or account restrictions. Add funds before checkout only if your account region accepts the card and the balance covers the final displayed price.

Because the announced $24.99 figure is for the US digital launch and regional prices are still to come, check the actual amount shown by your eShop before buying a card or starting a pre-order.
What is the safest Witchbrook Switch purchase plan?
For most readers, the lowest-risk plan is to wishlist the game now, recheck the regional listing as January 28, 2027 approaches, and buy only after confirming the correct console version, displayed price, and Proceed to pre-order control. If you pre-order, keep payment details current and leave enough storage for the pre-load and unlock update. If you buy after launch, the game should download after checkout as long as the account, connection, and storage are ready.
Do not treat a wishlist as an order, a seven-day payment policy as a guaranteed Witchbrook schedule, a regional size estimate as a final installed footprint, or an announced physical edition as a confirmed cartridge. Those distinctions prevent the most likely surprises while the publisher and Nintendo finalize regional store and physical-release details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will Witchbrook support cross-play between Switch and Switch 2?
The available Nintendo information lists both console generations and online player counts, but it does not state whether Switch and Switch 2 players can join the same online sessions. Wait for platform-specific multiplayer or cross-play documentation before assuming compatibility.
Can I play Witchbrook offline after downloading it?
The listing’s one-player local mode does not require a Nintendo Switch Online membership. You may need an internet connection for the initial eShop transaction, download, and any pre-order unlock update, but the available information does not define every offline feature.
Does deleting Witchbrook erase my progress?
Nintendo’s storage guidance says deleting downloadable software leaves save data unaffected. Do not choose a save-data deletion command, and remember that save data remains in system memory rather than on a microSD or microSD Express card.
When will the Witchbrook physical Collector’s Edition be available?
Chucklefish has announced Standard and Collector’s Editions for after the initial digital launch, but it has not supplied platform, format, retailer, or order-date details. There is therefore no confirmed physical-edition purchase window to follow yet.
