Gold and silver prices in New Delhi fell on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, according to a PTI report carried by ThePrint. The report attributed pressure on bullion to a stronger rupee, elevated crude oil prices and weak global trends: 99.9%-purity gold fell ₹1,300 to ₹149,000 per 10 grams, inclusive of taxes, while silver dropped ₹1,600 to ₹213,400 per kilogram. These are historical rates from that day, not current prices.
How much did gold and silver fall?
The reported declines were in New Delhi domestic prices. The gold figure was for 99.9%-purity gold and included taxes; silver was quoted per kilogram.

The report said silver had been steady for two sessions before its decline. The figures were attributed to the All India Sarafa Association for gold and reported by PTI; they describe that day’s market snapshot, not a live quote. PTI report carried by ThePrint.
Why did bullion prices come under pressure?
The report named three influences: rupee appreciation, elevated crude oil prices and weak global trends. These are the explanations attributed to the report and its quoted analysts, rather than independently established proof that any one factor caused the price moves.

A stronger rupee weighed on domestic gold
The rupee rose 48 paise to a provisional close of ₹94.43 against the US dollar on Wednesday. The report attributed the currency move to RBI intervention to contain dollar demand. Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst – Commodity and Currency at LKP Securities, said: “Gold traded weak on Wednesday, as rupee appreciation continued to add pressure on domestic prices.”
That explanation concerns domestic pricing: the report linked the stronger rupee with added pressure on local gold prices. It does not establish that the currency move alone explains the declines in both metals.

Crude prices and uncertainty shaped sentiment
The report connected elevated oil prices with inflation concerns and an uncertain monetary-policy outlook, describing these as a drag on investor sentiment. It also recounted a brief reversal in the day’s trading narrative: early hopes of an Iran-US peace deal pulled oil lower and briefly supported precious metals, but those gains faded after crude recovered amid reports that little diplomatic progress was expected.

Global market trends were weak, but the report gives separate snapshots
One general global-market update in the article described spot gold as flat at USD 4,127.68 per ounce and silver as down 0.48% at USD 57.72 per ounce. In a separate comment, Kaynat Chainwala, AVP Commodity Research at Kotak Neo, cited spot gold near USD 4,126 per ounce and silver at USD 57.10 after reaching USD 58.60 in the previous session. These are separate reported snapshots; they should not be combined into one simultaneous quotation.

How should you read the domestic and global prices?
The New Delhi rates and international spot quotations are not directly interchangeable. The local gold price is for 10 grams of 99.9%-purity gold and explicitly includes taxes; the global figures are spot quotations in US dollars per troy ounce. Silver is quoted per kilogram domestically and per ounce internationally. Differences in geography, unit, currency and price basis matter when comparing them.
The article’s figures are also tied to different passages and market snapshots. Use the date, quoted market, unit, currency and stated price basis with any figure you repeat; do not treat a historical daily report as a current rate or forecast.

Chainwala said that, with no major US economic data scheduled at the time, bond-market movements and crude-oil developments were likely to guide trading over the next few sessions. She said attention would then turn to the Federal Reserve’s October policy meeting the following week. That was an outlook published on October 21, 2026, not a current forecast.

Why are international spot prices not the same as local bullion prices?
They refer to different markets and units, and the reported Delhi gold figure explicitly includes taxes. Currency conversion and the price basis also affect comparisons.
Did the report say the stronger rupee caused silver to fall?
It quoted an analyst linking rupee appreciation to pressure on domestic gold and separately cited crude prices and weak global trends as factors weighing on bullion sentiment. It did not establish a standalone cause for silver’s decline.
