Nord Security says it owns NordVPN, while NordVPN Support identifies nordvpn S.A. as the service’s owner and operator. These statements describe different corporate levels. Nord Security’s website says the group is headquartered in Lithuania, but NordVPN Support says the group is based in the Netherlands and that NordVPN operates under Panama’s jurisdiction. The company’s published pages do not reconcile those location descriptions.
Who owns NordVPN?
Nord Security’s About us and our policies page says that Nord Security owns NordVPN. A separate NordVPN Support article states: “NordVPN is owned and operated by nordvpn S.A.”
The two descriptions should not be collapsed into a claim that the entities are interchangeable. Nord Security is presented as the parent or group owner; nordvpn S.A. is the entity NordVPN Support names as the service’s owner and operator. The cited pages do not provide a complete legal ownership chain between them.
Where is NordVPN based?
NordVPN’s official pages make different statements about location, so the answer depends on whether you mean the parent company’s stated headquarters, the service’s stated jurisdiction, or where the group says it is based.

- Nord Security headquarters: Nord Security’s About page says the parent is headquartered in Lithuania.
- Nord Security location: NordVPN Support’s founders and owners article describes Nord Security as based in the Netherlands.
- NordVPN jurisdiction: NordVPN Support’s Where is NordVPN based? page says the service operates under Panama’s jurisdiction.
These terms refer to different things, and the official pages do not explain the discrepancy between Lithuania and the Netherlands. Panama is the support page’s stated jurisdiction for NordVPN; it does not establish that Nord Security’s headquarters are in Panama. Likewise, Nord Security’s stated Lithuanian headquarters does not establish where nordvpn S.A. is incorporated.
Nord Security’s About page also describes its operations as global and lists offices in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Switzerland and Panama. An office location is not, by itself, the group’s headquarters or the service’s jurisdiction.

Who founded NordVPN?
NordVPN says the service launched in 2012. Its support overview names Tom Okman and Eimantas Sabaliauskas as the creators of NordVPN. Nord Security’s About us page lists Tomas Okmanas, Eimantas Sabaliauskas and Jonas Karklys as the company’s co-founders. The pages use different descriptions: service creators on the support page and company co-founders on Nord Security’s page.

Nord Security’s public announcements describe two outside financing rounds. They identify participating investors and round valuations, but do not disclose a current shareholder list or each investor’s present ownership percentage.

These are figures reported by Nord Security in its 2022 funding announcement and 2023 investment announcement. Participation in a funding round does not show an investor’s current stake or prove that it controls NordVPN. The announcements do not establish whether participants retained the same interests, the founders’ present stakes, or a complete cap table.

What the public information establishes—and what it does not
- Nord Security says it owns NordVPN; NordVPN Support names nordvpn S.A. as the service’s owner and operator.
- NordVPN launched in 2012, and the official pages distinguish the service’s creators from Nord Security’s listed co-founders.
- NordVPN’s official pages give conflicting descriptions of Nord Security’s location. They separately state Lithuania as the group’s headquarters, the Netherlands as where the group is based, and Panama as the service’s jurisdiction.
- Nord Security announced outside investments in 2022 and 2023, but those announcements are not a current ownership breakdown.
