What weapon information is actually confirmed for GTA 6?

An extended-gameplay breakdown shows five weapons in use: a compact sidearm pistol, the Moreland 850 pump-action shotgun, a Duke 556-style assault rifle, a gold-plated AK-style rifle and Molotov cocktails. Only the Moreland 850 is presented there with a fully confirmed name; the other descriptions should remain descriptive rather than being upgraded into official model names.

The Moreland 850 appears in a close-quarters hallway fight, and a double-barrel shotgun is visible in hunting imagery. The gameplay breakdown specifically frames the pump shotgun around reload timing in a narrow hallway. That makes spacing and cover more important than chasing an unverified damage number.
Pump-action versus double-barrel roles

The researched footage identifies Remington 700-, M1A- and other hunting-rifle analogues visually. None of those identifications supplies verified launch damage, accuracy or handling values. A long sightline and stable cover are prerequisites; once enemies flank you or force movement, a faster-firing category is usually more practical.
When should heavy or projectile weapons be used?
Heavy and projectile weapons have the greatest potential to influence a concentrated group or a vehicle, but they also carry the largest visibility, ammunition and collateral-risk trade-offs.
A grenade launcher appears in the named or reported arsenal, while the gameplay material shows a Molotov used against a getaway vehicle. The available evidence does not establish an explosive radius, damage value or universal NPC reaction, so treat these weapons as disruption options rather than guaranteed instant solutions.

What can throwables do that guns cannot?

A hammer and baseball bat are among the confirmed or reported examples. There is no established final melee damage hierarchy or evidence that melee attacks reliably control multiple NPCs. Start with distance, cover and the group’s alert state, then choose the category that solves the immediate problem instead of chasing a universal favorite.
- Check distance. At long range, use a rifle or sniper-style weapon; at arm’s length, a shotgun, SMG or handgun is more manageable.
- Find cover. Blind-fire from behind cover is reported in the extended gameplay coverage, so avoid standing in the open while deciding.
- Count escape routes. If the fight can move into a vehicle chase, favor a mobile automatic weapon and keep a throwable available for a pursuing car.
- Estimate reload pressure. Shotguns demand deliberate reload timing; automatic weapons consume reserves faster during a drawn-out exchange.
- Consider visibility. A drawn handgun may allow a lower-profile approach, while a long gun can provoke a stronger reaction before combat.

Can NPCs react to the weapon you are carrying?
Reportedly, yes. GamesRadar quotes Rockstar North joint boss and development lead Rob Nelson saying that NPC behavior changes when weapons are visible: a drawn handgun can make people walk away cautiously, while a long gun held in hand can provoke a stronger reaction.
Nelson explained the design change this way: “We don’t feel that works any longer at this resolution with the behavioral sophistication we need from our population now.” Treat that as behavior described in a pre-release presentation, not a complete rulebook for every NPC type, faction or mission.

Which combat systems matter when fighting several NPCs?
Group encounters are shaped by more than weapon category. The observed systems include blind-fire from cover, rifle fire during vehicle chases, ground weapon pickups, a redesigned weapon wheel and a Molotov in an explosives slot.
These features create a practical loop: use cover to reduce exposure, move when enemies gain an angle, swap weapons rather than reload in a bad position, and use a throwable to break up a vehicle or a cluster. They support the role comparison above without proving final balance values.

Could weapon visibility affect police or civilian escalation?
The reported NPC behavior suggests visibility can change how people respond before shots are fired. The presentation does not define a universal escalation script for every civilian, police unit or mission.
