Buy the Standard Edition on PC if you can play there. It has the lowest list price, Steam currently has a 25% weekend discount, GOG offers DRM-free files, and PC is the only platform receiving the Modkit BETA. Choose the PS5 or Xbox Series Standard Edition if that is your available hardware. The remake is the same campaign on every platform, but console versions cost more and have different performance results. Choose the Collector’s Edition only for its physical memorabilia: it contains no exclusive quests, weapons or other in-game content. There is no Deluxe or Digital Deluxe edition.

What editions of Gothic 1 Remake are available?
There are two paid editions: Standard and Collector’s. Both contain the complete remake campaign, and neither grants exclusive in-game items. The Standard Edition is available digitally on Steam, GOG, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Collector’s Edition is a limited physical package for those platforms, with the game supplied as a disc or code-in-box depending on the SKU.
There is no Deluxe, Digital Deluxe or equivalent premium digital tier. That makes the buying decision straightforward: pay for the Standard game, or pay extra for physical merchandise.

How much does each version cost?
Prices vary by country, stock and promotion. The figures below are list prices or clearly identified promotions checked in November 2026.
| Version | Price and conditions |
|---|---|
| PC Standard | $49.99/€49.99 launch list price. Steam UK weekend deal: £31.49, reduced 25% from £41.99, ending 5 November 2026. |
| PS5 or Xbox Series Standard | $59.99/€59.99 launch list price. |
| Collector’s Edition | $199.99/€199.99 list price; only 7,500 copies were produced worldwide. |
| Gothic Classic | €29.99 standalone console release price from 28 July 2026. |
Steam also listed the soundtrack DLC at £6.37 during the same 25% promotion, reduced from £8.50. Amazon listings around $45.99 and $59.99 appeared in late-October price modules, but those are snapshots rather than guaranteed street prices.
Which platform should you buy on?
Choose PC for the lowest price and continuing mod tools, Xbox Series if that is your main console and you want the stronger published console score, or PS5 if PlayStation is your established platform. Do not buy a version expecting cross-platform ownership: the available editions are tied to their storefront ecosystems.
Recommended Free Tools
PC: the default recommendation
PC is the best all-round choice when your hardware meets the demanding requirements. The Standard Edition costs $10/€10 less than the console list price, Steam has the current UK sale, and GOG provides DRM-free local files. Steam also retains the Nyras Prologue demo and platform features such as cloud saves and Family Sharing.

PC is the only platform with the Modkit BETA announced on 29 October 2026. The first release exposes AngelScript, the scripting language Alkimia Interactive already used during development. Photo Mode and Marvin Mode also arrived in the same Feature Update 1, making PC the most flexible version for experimentation and future community content.
Xbox Series X|S: the Xbox-owner choice
The Xbox Series X|S Standard Edition is the same remake campaign at the $59.99/€59.99 list price. Metacritic’s Xbox Series X score is 74, matching the PC headline score. It is not included with Xbox Game Pass, and there is no separate Xbox app for PC edition.
PlayStation 5: suitable when PS5 is your console
PS5 delivers the complete remake, but published reception was more technical than on the other platforms. Metacritic lists a 69 PS5 score, and GamePro reduced its score because of technical problems in the review build. A June 9 PS5 update, patches 1.0.2 and 1.0.3, and Feature Update 1 released afterward, so launch coverage does not describe the current patch level perfectly.

Steam’s own compatibility badge says Unsupported. That is an official compatibility status, not proof that every workaround fails, but it means the Deck is not a supported buying target. A Windows desktop or a supported console is the safer choice.

Does the console version still include Gothic Classic?
Gothic Classic was advertised as a console digital pre-order bonus, playable from 7 April 2026. It later received a standalone release on 28 July 2026 for €29.99. Because the bonus was tied to pre-order terms, a new PS5 or Xbox purchase in November 2026 should not be assumed to include Classic; check the live product page for the exact SKU before paying.
PC pre-orders instead included the Kai Rosenkranz soundtrack. The soundtrack is now sold separately as Steam DLC, so missing the PC pre-order does not permanently remove access to it.
What are the PC system requirements?
The Steam specification is unusually high for a remake. An SSD is required, and an NVMe drive is recommended. Meeting the minimum specification does not guarantee a particular frame rate; it identifies the hardware tier listed by the publisher.
| Tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics | Storage and operating system |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel Core i7-7700K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X | 16 GB RAM | 8 GB VRAM; AMD RX 6700 XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 | 60 GB SSD; Windows 10/11 64-bit; DirectX 12 |
| Recommended | Intel Core i7-7700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X | 32 GB RAM | 12 GB VRAM; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT | 60 GB NVMe; Windows 10/11 64-bit; DirectX 12 |
What exactly is the remake?
Gothic 1 Remake is Alkimia Interactive’s Unreal Engine 5 remake of Piranha Bytes’ 2001 single-player action RPG, published by THQ Nordic. You play the Nameless Hero, a prisoner thrown into the Valley of Mines, also called the Colony, which is sealed by a magical barrier. The Old Camp, New Camp and Swamp Camp/Sect remain the three factions that shape progression.

Official material promises unrestricted exploration, NPC daily routines, modernized combat and more than 50 hours of gameplay. Development reporting summarized by Wikipedia describes a world 10–30% larger than the original; GameStar estimated the original at roughly 23–38 hours and said the remake adds about 20 hours. Composer Kai Rosenkranz returned from the original game.
Is the free demo worth trying first?
Yes. The Nyras Prologue is a free, roughly hour-long introduction and is the lowest-risk way to see whether the remake’s deliberately demanding role-playing design suits you. Steam still displays a demo button, and the demo is also listed for GOG, PS5 and Xbox Series; it remains available after the full launch.
The prologue follows Nyras rather than the Nameless Hero. That makes it an introductory scenario, not a save file that carries into the main campaign. Newcomers who dislike unguided objectives, faction choices or high-friction combat should sample it before buying.

How has the game been received and supported?
Commercially, THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive reported 500,000 units sold across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series in the first week. Steam reached almost 78,000 concurrent players on 7 June 2026. Steam recorded 27,083 reviews in all languages with a Very Positive rating; 85% of 8,010 English reviews were positive, while the most recent 30-day sample was 80% of 620 reviews.

Critical scores are more mixed: Metacritic reports a 74 overall from 50 critic reviews and an 8.3 user score from 809 ratings. OpenCritic’s Top Critic Average is 73, with 57% of critics recommending it. Reviews ranged from 4P.de’s 9/10 praise for the refinement of a classic to PC Gamer’s 60/100 view that it remains an RPG for players who prefer older, less guided design. IGN scored it 7/10 and called it the best way to play the cult classic while noting that some elements have aged badly.
Post-launch support reduces some launch risk. Feature Update 1 arrived on 29 October 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series and Steam with Photo Mode, Marvin Mode, player haircuts and tattoos. Marvin Mode is the official sandbox/cheat mode for bypassing locks, teleporting and spawning items, characters or creatures. The same update date brought the PC Modkit BETA.
Which versions and storefronts are not available?
There is no Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 release, and no PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac, Epic Games Store, Xbox app for PC or PC Game Pass storefront version. Game8 reported studio head Reinhard Pollice saying Switch 2 hardware was not at the level required for the project’s goals; that is a capability explanation, not a permanent promise that a port can never happen. Game8 also reported no announced Game Pass arrival date as of 1 June 2026.

- Want the mask and leather accessories? Choose Collector’s only if those physical items justify $199.99/€199.99; gameplay is unchanged.
How we picked
The ranking weighs platform availability, current list and sale prices, DRM, mod support, demo access, published platform scores, hardware requirements and whether an edition adds gameplay rather than memorabilia. It does not treat volatile retailer pricing or unverified cloud-streaming listings as guaranteed features.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which languages have full voice acting in Gothic 1 Remake?
The voiced languages listed for the remake are German, English, Polish and Russian, with original-game actors rehired where their roles had not changed substantially. Steam’s visible language matrix lists French, Italian and Spanish (Spain) for interface and subtitles rather than full audio.
Can I play the PC version with a controller?
Steam lists full controller support for Xbox controllers, DualShock over USB and DualSense over USB. That support is listed for the Steam build; controller behavior on other PC storefronts can depend on their launcher and configuration.
What is the Nyras Prologue demo?
It is a separate, approximately one-hour introduction starring Nyras, not the Nameless Hero. The demo is available on Steam, GOG, PS5 and Xbox Series and is intended to let newcomers judge the remake’s combat and less-directed role-playing style before buying.
