Start with Lies of P, then its Overture expansion. It is the closest modern gothic-horror soulslike to Bloodborne, combining aggressive close-range combat with perfect guards, a decaying Belle Époque city and a substantial 30–35-hour campaign. If you only want FromSoftware, choose Dark Souls III for the nearest overall rhythm or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for the most demanding boss pressure. Choose Thymesia, The First Berserker: Khazan or Nioh 3 when speed and execution matter more than Victorian atmosphere; choose The Last Faith, Tombwater or Wuchang: Fallen Feathers when gothic or cosmic horror is the real attraction.

What is the best game to play after The Old Hunters?
Lies of P is the best default recommendation. Round8 Studio and NEOWIZ’s 2023 game places a puppet plague in Belle Époque Krat, so its streets, hospitals and workshops feel adjacent to Yharnam without copying it. The combat keeps Bloodborne’s forward pressure but adds Sekiro-like perfect guards and a blade-and-handle assembly system that lets you tune a weapon’s moveset.
The base campaign averages 30–35 hours according to Eneba’s October 2026 listing. That is long enough to feel like a full successor-style journey, but still compact compared with an open-world RPG. The June 2025 Overture expansion is prequel content rather than an optional cosmetic pack; buy or select the edition that includes it if you want the complete current story.
Contemporary coverage repeatedly places Lies of P at the top of non-FromSoftware soulslike lists. HostedGG describes its blend of Bloodborne aggression and Sekiro deflection as a system that stands on its own, while Den of Geek calls it one of the most acclaimed non-FromSoftware Souls games. Those comparisons explain the recommendation, but the setting matters just as much: Krat is industrial and theatrical, not Victorian London with the names changed.

Who should skip it?
Skip straight to the FromSoftware section if the studio’s level design, animation language and lore delivery matter more to you than a gothic setting. Also skip it if you have already finished both the base game and Overture; the alternatives below separate the specific parts of Bloodborne you may still be chasing.
Why is there no perfect Bloodborne replacement?
Bloodborne’s combination of rally healing, sidesteps, firearms, compact shortcuts and Lovecraftian escalation remains unusual. GamingScan identifies its defining blend as Souls-like gameplay, dark atmosphere and Lovecraftian story, and notes that no other game is truly the same while there is no sequel.
The original PlayStation 4 game launched on 24 March 2015. The Old Hunters, released on 24 November 2015, was its only story expansion. It added three areas, 10 weapons, new outfits, Simon’s Bowblade, a beast transformation and major fights including Ludwig, Lady Maria and the Orphan of Kos. Sony combined the base game and expansion in the Bloodborne Game of the Year Edition in late November 2015; the standalone expansion launched at $19.99, €14.99 or £11.99 in its respective regions.

Bloodborne remains a PlayStation 4 title playable on PlayStation 5. July 2026 reporting still described it as running at 30 frames per second on PS5. No PC port, remaster or Bloodborne 2 announcement appeared in the available 2026 coverage, so a PC player needs an alternative rather than a promised conversion.
Which FromSoftware game feels most like Bloodborne?
Dark Souls III: the closest overall studio sibling
Dark Souls III is the safest choice when you want FromSoftware’s pacing without an open world. It is faster than the first two Dark Souls games, and its creatures, cathedrals and hostile streets often look as if they could have been lifted from Yharnam. Its combat is still shield-and-roll oriented, but the tempo rewards the same willingness to stay close instead of waiting indefinitely.
The game’s authored route and shortcut-driven areas make it a natural follow-up to Bloodborne’s compact geography. Its boss run includes the Abyss Watchers and, in The Ringed City, Slave Knight Gael. The 2026 ranking from The Surge Game calls that lineup a greatest-hits album of FromSoftware encounters. Choose it over Elden Ring when you want a deliberate sequence of areas rather than a map full of optional directions.
Sekiro: the best answer to Lady Maria’s duel
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice changes the setting to Sengoku Japan, so it is not a gothic replacement. Its connection to Bloodborne is mechanical: both games punish passivity, and Sekiro turns that idea into a strict deflection-and-posture system. GameRant describes Bloodborne as laying groundwork for parrying in later Soulslikes, while Sekiro takes that idea much further.
Eneba lists a 25–35-hour average playtime. You cannot build a character around dozens of weapons or shields; success comes from learning enemy timing, maintaining pressure and breaking posture. If the highlight of The Old Hunters was Lady Maria’s rhythm rather than its architecture, Sekiro is the strongest next step.

Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree: choose scale, not similarity
Elden Ring is the broadest FromSoftware option, not the closest Bloodborne clone. Eneba’s October 2026 figures put the main story at 50–70 hours and a completionist exploration run at more than 100 hours. Its open world replaces Yharnam’s carefully compressed streets with long rides, optional dungeons and many viable routes.
That difference is the point. Choose Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree if you want discovery, build variety and a huge mythic landscape after finishing a tightly authored nightmare. Do not choose it solely because a list calls it the best Souls game; it scratches a different itch.
What about Elden Ring Nightreign and Demon’s Souls?
Elden Ring Nightreign is a three-player roguelike spin-off built around short, semi-permadeath runs. PC Gamer explicitly says it is not accurate to call it a conventional soulslike, so treat it as a multiplayer companion rather than the next Bloodborne-style campaign.
The PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls is the historical origin point: hub-based progression and a world-tendency system. It is useful when you want to trace the lineage, but its slower, older structure makes Dark Souls III the better immediate follow-up for most Old Hunters veterans.
Which games match Bloodborne’s aggressive combat?
Thymesia: a short plague-ridden sprint
Thymesia, from OverBorder Studio, launched on 18 August 2022. It is fast, diseased and violent, with a body-horror world that rewards pressure instead of patience. Its compact scope makes it ideal when you want a concentrated combat challenge rather than another 50-hour commitment.
G2A characterizes it as a plague-focused game built around aggressive play, while Eneba describes it as a precision title drawing from both Bloodborne and Sekiro. Expect a narrower experience than Yharnam: the appeal is the feel of each exchange, not a sprawling cast or elaborate world history.
The First Berserker: Khazan: reflect timing with a different presentation
The First Berserker: Khazan, developed by Neople, launched in March 2025. Its cel-shaded presentation and three weapon classes set it apart visually, but its combat asks for the same kind of attention that difficult Old Hunters bosses demand. GameRant highlights a tiered parry system and varied combos; The Surge Game calls it a major surprise of 2025.

Nioh 3: the deep-system option
Team Ninja’s Nioh games trade Bloodborne’s fixed weapon identity for stances, ki pulses, loot and Yokai abilities. Nioh 2 already has a higher mechanical ceiling through stances, Burst Counters and build management. Nioh 3 launched on 6 February 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC and adds an instant Samurai/Ninja style swap.
G2A includes Nioh 3 because of its intensity, not because its setting is gothic. The Surge Game calls it Team Ninja’s best work and reports, as that publication’s figure rather than an official filing, that it sold one million copies in two weeks. Choose it if adjusting gear and stance interactions sounds exciting; avoid it if you want Bloodborne’s deliberately limited arsenal.
Stellar Blade: faster, more character-action than Souls
Stellar Blade is a 2024 Shift Up action game whose parries and low-downtime encounters appeal to players who want speed and expressive defense. GameRant frames it as faster and more skill-focused than Bloodborne, while The Surge Game places it closer to character action than a traditional Souls game. Its 2025 PC port makes it a useful alternative for players who are not on PlayStation.

The Last Faith: a 2D gothic interpretation
The Last Faith launched on 15 November 2023 from Kumi Souls Games. It deliberately asks what a two-dimensional Bloodborne-inspired game might look like, then combines that mood with Blasphemous-style religious imagery. DualShockers describes it as both a Soulslike and a strong Metroidvania.
Choose it when the appeal of Yharnam was its architecture, rituals and grotesque transformation more than its camera perspective. Exploration, ability-gated routes and pixel-art combat make it a different format, but the gothic vocabulary is unusually direct.
Tombwater: cosmic horror in a Western frame
Tombwater is a 2D Soulslike-Metroidvania from Moth Atlas and Midwest Games. DualShockers calls it Bloodborne meets Red Dead Redemption, combining cosmic horror with Western aesthetics and folklore. It is the strongest side recommendation for players who loved the Fishing Hamlet’s impossible sea-life imagery but are open to a new setting and a smaller production.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers: plague horror in Sichuan
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, developed by Leenzee and published by 505 Games, launched on 24 July 2025. Its plague-wracked Sichuan setting, feathered body horror and madness mechanic create a clear Bloodborne-adjacent mood without copying Victorian Europe.

Eneba lists a 25–35-hour average playtime and identifies it as a newcomer Soulslike available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Repeated deaths feed its madness system, so the game turns failure into a thematic mechanic rather than merely a restart screen. Pick it when atmosphere matters as much as the parry window.

Hollow Knight and other tone-first choices
Hollow Knight is not Lovecraftian and does not use Bloodborne’s rally system, but its aggressive movement, environmental storytelling and build-like charm system make it a convincing two-dimensional alternative. Its melancholy is closer to Dark Souls than to Yharnam’s texture.
Blasphemous 2, Salt and Sanctuary, Mortal Shell, Lords of the Fallen (2023), Remnant II, Witchfire, Code Vein II and Another Crab’s Treasure are better treated as specific-mood alternatives than as direct replacements. Older games such as The Sinking City, Sundered, Vampyr, Dishonored and The Order: 1886 match atmosphere more than combat.
What should PlayStation owners buy if they want the complete Bloodborne package?
If you finished a borrowed copy or want a permanent physical edition, the Bloodborne Game of the Year Edition is the honest choice. It contains the PS4 base game and The Old Hunters; the European street date was 27 November 2015, with North American reporting placing it in late November that year.

The licensed figma Hunter: The Old Hunters Edition is merchandise, not a game. The Duskbloods
The Duskbloods is FromSoftware’s 2026 eight-player PvPvE vampire game for Switch 2, with a closed beta reported for summer 2026. It is multiplayer-first. The vampire premise may evoke Bloodborne, but it is not a single-player successor and has no firm day-and-month release date in the available July 2026 reporting.
Phantom Blade Zero
Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled for 9 September 2026 from S-Game and is pitched as Sekiro crossed with Ninja Gaiden. An OpenCritic 2026 preview excluded it from a true Soulslike list, so classify it as an action hybrid rather than a Bloodborne substitute.
Where Winds Meet and Lords of the Fallen II
Where Winds Meet appears on PlayStation Blog coverage as launching on 13 November 2026, although an August 2025 list used 14 November; verify the date near launch. It is open-world wuxia with Soulslike-adjacent combat, not gothic horror. Lords of the Fallen II was listed simply as 2026 with no firm date in July 2026.

Nioh 3’s first downloadable expansion was listed for September 2026. That is a reason to watch the game if you already enjoy its stance-and-loot systems, not evidence of a Bloodborne connection.

How we picked these games
The selection separates the parts of Bloodborne players commonly mean by “like.” Combat picks were judged by pressure, parries, sidesteps, stance management or the cost of passive play. Atmosphere picks were judged by gothic, plague, cosmic-horror or religious imagery. World-shape picks distinguish compact authored routes from mission stages and open worlds, while platform notes account for Bloodborne’s continuing PlayStation limitation.
