To check a dated Nintendo eShop transaction, sign in to the Nintendo Account that made the purchase, open Funds and Payment Methods, then select Transaction History. Nintendo’s online transaction view goes back up to two years. To see digital games associated with an account on a Switch or Switch 2, use Virtual Game Cards on the HOME Menu. That library is not a chronological record of every time a game was downloaded.
Where is my Nintendo eShop purchase history?
Use Nintendo Account Home on the web to view dated eShop transactions. The history is tied to the Nintendo Account that made each purchase, so sign in to the purchaser’s account rather than assuming a console’s users share one history. Nintendo’s purchase-history instructions describe this route for North American accounts; menu wording and availability can differ by region.
- Sign in to Nintendo Account Home with the account used to buy the item.
- Open Funds and Payment Methods.
- Select Transaction History.
- Review the dated transactions shown for that account.
The important detail is the account, not the Switch that happened to be used. A household can have several users on one console, but Nintendo does not present one combined purchase-history screen for all of them. If you bought a game with one user and later open the history for another, the purchase can appear to be missing even though the console still has the software.
If you have more than one Nintendo Account, sign out and repeat the route for each likely purchaser. Check the account’s profile details carefully before comparing dates or titles. A receipt, a game’s eShop status, and a virtual game card all reflect the account that owns the content; changing consoles does not merge those records.

Does Nintendo show a download history?
Nintendo’s documented tools answer different questions. Transaction History shows account transactions. Virtual Game Cards lets you inspect owned digital games and start eligible redownloads. Neither should be treated as a complete, dated log of every download event. A title can be owned without currently being installed, and a title shown in the console library does not tell you when it was downloaded or how many times it was downloaded.
| What you want to know | Where to check | What the view tells you |
|---|---|---|
| When an eShop transaction occurred | Nintendo Account Home → Funds and Payment Methods → Transaction History | Dated transaction activity for the signed-in account, reaching back up to two years. |
| Which digital games are associated with the account on the console | Switch or Switch 2 HOME Menu → Virtual Game Cards | An owned-game library, not a timeline of past downloads. |
| Whether you still have proof of an older transaction | The email inbox that received Nintendo’s transaction receipts | Receipts you retained; availability depends on what remains in the inbox. |
| Whether a particular add-on was bought | The game’s eShop listing, under Downloadable Content | Nintendo marks previously purchased DLC as Purchased. |
Use the table as a decision guide. If you need a date for an accounting or family-purchase question, start on the website. If you are trying to put a game back on a console, start with Virtual Game Cards. If the transaction is more than two years old, search the receipt mailbox. If the question is about one expansion or add-on, check that game’s Downloadable Content section rather than relying on the general game listing.
How do I see games I bought on a Switch or Switch 2?
Open Virtual Game Cards from the console’s HOME Menu, then choose the Nintendo Account user who purchased the game. Authenticate if prompted. Nintendo says purchased digital games appear in sections of this menu; the exact contents are not a list of every download session.
Recommended Free Tools
- From HOME, open Virtual Game Cards.
- Select the user who made the purchase.
- Complete any authentication prompt.
- Browse the digital games shown for that user.
This is the practical console check when you are unsure whether a digital title is attached to the system’s users. Select the purchaser even if another user normally plays the game. The owner’s library is the relevant one for entitlement and redownload. If you choose the wrong profile, a legitimate purchase may not appear, or the title may show a purchase price instead.
Virtual Game Cards are best understood as an ownership-and-access view. They help you find software associated with an account and load it on the system, but they do not supply a dated “downloaded on” entry. They also should not be interpreted as a universal catalog of every kind of Nintendo digital content, because some content uses a different delivery or redownload route.
How do I redownload a game I already bought?
Nintendo now directs users to Virtual Game Cards for many digital-game redownloads; older instructions that point to an eShop Redownload section may no longer match the current route. Nintendo’s redownload instructions provide these options.
- If the game icon is still on HOME: select the icon and choose Download.
- If the icon is gone: open Virtual Game Cards, select the purchaser, choose the title, then select Load on This System.
- To download without loading a virtual game card: use Options → Download Data, as described in Nintendo’s instructions.
- If the title was hidden: open Can’t Find Software? → View Hidden Virtual Game Cards.
- Check the title’s progress from the HOME Menu.
“Load on This System” is the step to use when the title is in the purchaser’s virtual-card list but is not currently loaded on that console. The separate Options → Download Data path is useful when you want to download the software without loading a virtual game card first. Once the download begins, the HOME Menu provides the progress indicator; the transaction-history page itself does not track download progress.
If the icon is already visible, begin with the icon’s Download command rather than searching the account website. If the title was deliberately hidden, it will not necessarily be visible in the ordinary virtual-card view. Open Can’t Find Software? and then View Hidden Virtual Game Cards to reveal that list before trying to load or download the title.

Why did the old eShop Redownload menu disappear?
Older guides and screenshots can point to a Redownload section inside the eShop. Nintendo says that former section now directs users to Virtual Game Cards for many digital purchases. That interface change explains why a route that worked on an earlier software version may not match the current HOME Menu.
The change does not mean every item you ever downloaded must appear as an ordinary virtual game card. Nintendo identifies most demos, Nintendo Switch Online classic-game libraries, and some membership content as examples with separate eShop or Nintendo Switch Online redownload routes. If one of those items is absent from Virtual Game Cards, use the relevant service’s current eShop or Nintendo Switch Online route. Its absence alone is not proof that you never downloaded it.
When following an older article, translate its terminology rather than hunting for an identically named button. “Redownload” may now mean opening Virtual Game Cards, selecting the correct user, and choosing the title. For service-based content, however, look in the service that supplied it. This distinction prevents a normal interface change from being mistaken for lost ownership.

Open the game’s eShop listing with the purchasing Nintendo Account and look in the Downloadable Content section. Nintendo says DLC labeled Purchased was previously bought. Check the account that made the purchase, since another user on the same console may have a different purchase status.
This check is more precise than looking only at the base game’s icon. Expansions, season-style add-ons, and other downloadable items can have their own entries under Downloadable Content. Open the listing while signed in as the purchaser; the status shown to a different account may not reflect the owner’s entitlement.
If the DLC is marked Purchased, you have an account-level indication that it was bought. That label does not by itself prove the add-on is installed on the current console. Use the applicable download or virtual-card route afterward if you need to put the content back on the system.
Why does a game I thought I owned show a price?
Nintendo says that if the selected account sees a price for a title, that account did not purchase it. Check other household members’ accounts or the account used by a previous console owner, then compare against available transaction receipts. If the purchase still appears to be missing and you have evidence of it, contact Nintendo Support.

Gather the information you do have before contacting support: the Nintendo Account you checked, the title, any retained receipt, and the console user involved. Nintendo’s documented guidance is to contact support when the purchase remains absent despite evidence. Do not buy the title again merely because the wrong account displays a price.
How can I find purchases older than two years?
Nintendo’s online Transaction History reaches back up to two years, so it may not show an older transaction. Search the email inbox that received Nintendo’s transaction receipts for the relevant title, date, or Nintendo purchase email. This can provide older proof only if the message was retained; it is not a guaranteed recovery method.
Nintendo states: “A receipt for each transaction in the Nintendo eShop is emailed to the Nintendo Account that made the purchase.” That makes email the practical place to look beyond the website’s stated window. Search archived folders, deleted-message folders, and any mailbox used by the account, but remember that a message is available only if the email provider and account holder retained it.

For child-account purchases, search the parent or guardian’s email address. The child’s Nintendo Account owns the transaction, while Nintendo sends the receipt to the parent or guardian email address. Search by the game title, Nintendo, or the approximate month, and compare the Purchased Item in the message with the item you are trying to verify.
A receipt can establish that a transaction occurred, but it does not turn the console into a historical download tracker. It also does not guarantee that the game is installed now. Use the receipt for older ownership evidence, then use the purchaser’s Virtual Game Cards or the appropriate service route for current access.
Why might one purchase produce two receipts?
Two Nintendo emails do not necessarily mean the game was purchased twice. Nintendo explains that adding funds to an eShop balance and then spending those funds on a game can generate separate emails: one for adding funds and another for the game transaction.
Compare each message’s Purchased Item and payment method before treating the emails as duplicate game charges. A funds-addition receipt records the balance transaction; it is distinct from the receipt for the item bought with that balance. The dates can be close because the balance was added immediately before the purchase.

What should I do when a title is missing?
- Confirm the purchaser. Sign in to the Nintendo Account that actually paid for the item, including the child account when appropriate.
- Choose the right view. Use Transaction History for dated activity, Virtual Game Cards for eligible owned games, the game listing for DLC, and email for transactions older than two years.
- Check hidden content. In Virtual Game Cards, open Can’t Find Software? and inspect View Hidden Virtual Game Cards.
- Check exceptions. Demos, Nintendo Switch Online classic-game libraries, and some membership content may use a separate redownload route.
- Compare evidence. Match the title and purchaser in a receipt with the account currently selected on the console.
- Contact support when evidence conflicts. If the correct account lacks the purchase despite a receipt or other evidence, use Nintendo Support rather than purchasing again.
This sequence separates an account problem from a menu problem. A missing item in Virtual Game Cards may simply be service content, a hidden virtual card, or a title owned by another user. A missing item in the two-year website view may be an older purchase that survives only in retained email.
Does storage affect purchase history or redownloading?
Storage can affect whether you are able to redownload software, but it does not determine whether Nintendo records the transaction. A memory card cannot reveal purchase history, create a missing receipt, or show a dated download log.
For Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo says an ordinary microSD card is not suitable for storing Switch 2 games; use a compatible microSD Express card when additional game storage is needed. The card is a task-enabling storage accessory for installing or redownloading software, not an account-record tool, and it does not store game-progress data. For original Nintendo Switch models, a compatible microSDXC card is a separate storage option.
Choose any card by console generation, the required card standard, and the capacity you actually need. Do not buy a card merely to inspect Transaction History or Virtual Game Cards. First establish ownership and the correct download route; consider storage only if the console cannot accommodate the software you are trying to redownload.
Which record should I use?
- For a dated account transaction, use the website’s Transaction History.
- To locate an owned digital game or begin a redownload, use Virtual Game Cards on the console.
- For activity outside the online history window, search retained transaction emails.
- For a specific DLC purchase, check the title’s eShop listing under Downloadable Content.
- For demos, Nintendo Switch Online classic games, or some membership content, use the separate eShop or Nintendo Switch Online route.
- For a title showing a price, switch to the account that made the purchase before assuming ownership is missing.
Regional and interface notes
The routes above follow Nintendo’s North American support pages. Nintendo’s account pages and menu labels can differ by country, and a console may display slightly different wording after a system update. The underlying choice remains the same: identify the purchasing account, then select the record type that answers your question.
Be cautious with screenshots from older guides. Nintendo has moved many former eShop redownload tasks to Virtual Game Cards, so an old Redownload button may not appear where the guide shows it. If the current HOME Menu offers Virtual Game Cards, use that route for eligible digital games and consult the relevant service for exceptions.
What Nintendo’s records cannot prove
Transaction History can show dated account activity within its up-to-two-year window, but it is not documented as an all-time download log. Virtual Game Cards can show owned digital games and support redownloads, but they do not provide a chronological list of download sessions. A retained email receipt can support an older purchase, but only if the message still exists and it was sent to an inbox you can access.
These limits matter when checking family purchases, preparing a support request, or investigating a title that appears on one console but not another. Match the question to the evidence instead of expecting one screen to answer ownership, installation status, download dates, and account identity at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Nintendo eShop receipt mean the game is installed on my console?
No. A receipt documents a transaction, while installation or redownload status is a separate console matter. Check the HOME Menu or the game’s available redownload route to determine whether the software is on the system.
Will a child receive the receipt for an eShop purchase?
Nintendo sends a child-account purchase receipt to the parent or guardian email address, rather than the child’s email address. The transaction itself remains associated with the child’s Nintendo Account.
Can I get a full all-time download log from Nintendo?
Nintendo’s documented Transaction History and Virtual Game Cards views do not provide a comprehensive timeline of every download event. Retained transaction emails may help establish older purchases, but they do not turn the console library into a download-event log.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why is my purchase missing from Transaction History?
First verify that you signed in to the Nintendo Account that made the purchase, including the child account if applicable. The online view reaches back up to two years; older transactions may appear only in retained Nintendo receipt emails.
Why does my game show a price instead of Download?
The selected account did not purchase that title, according to Nintendo’s guidance. Check other users’ accounts and the account used on a previous console, then compare the result with transaction receipts.
Where do I find a hidden digital game?
Open Virtual Game Cards, choose the purchasing user, select Can’t Find Software?, and then open View Hidden Virtual Game Cards. From there you can select the title and use the applicable loading or download option.
Are demos included in Virtual Game Cards?
Not necessarily. Nintendo identifies most demos, Nintendo Switch Online classic-game libraries, and some membership content as items that can have separate eShop or Nintendo Switch Online redownload routes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Adding funds to an eShop balance and then spending those funds can produce separate receipts. Compare each message’s Purchased Item and payment method before deciding that the game was charged twice.
Does a microSD Express card show my Nintendo purchase history?
No. On Switch 2, a compatible microSD Express card is for storing game software when needed; it does not reveal account transactions, download dates, or save-progress data. Original Switch models use a compatible microSDXC option instead.
Can another user on my Switch see my complete purchase history?
No. Purchase history belongs to the Nintendo Account that made each transaction. Other console users do not automatically receive a combined view of your account activity.
The Bottom Line
Use Nintendo Account Home → Funds and Payment Methods → Transaction History for dated purchases within the last two years. Use the purchasing user’s Virtual Game Cards on Switch or Switch 2 to find eligible owned games and redownload them. Check a game’s Downloadable Content section for DLC, search retained Nintendo receipts for older purchases, and remember that none of these views is a complete timeline of download events.
