Valheim 1.0 has eight bosses. The intended route runs through the Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands and, finally, the Deep North. Each Forsaken One is found through a biome-specific Vegvisir or dungeon route and requires a different offering. Defeating one grants a trophy for a Sacrificial Stone power and a progression item that opens the next stage. Because altar positions are generated from your world seed, there is no universal coordinate list: read the correct Vegvisir in your own world, follow its map marker and bring the required offering.
This guide covers all Valheim bosses, their current 1.0 order, Valheim boss locations, summoning costs, rewards and the exceptions that matter when a boss is inside a dungeon rather than beside an exposed altar.

What is the Valheim 1.0 boss order?
The practical Valheim 1.0 boss order follows biome progression. The first seven encounters form the established route from the Meadows to the Ashlands; Kall Fimbulbringer is the new Deep North finale added with the 1.0 launch on September 9, 2026. Iron Gate describes each biome as having its own difficulty and resources, with its Forsaken One serving as the gate to the next tier.
- Eikthyr — Meadows
- The Elder — Black Forest
- Bonemass — Swamp
- Moder — Mountains
- Yagluth — Plains
- The Queen — Mistlands
- Fader — Ashlands
- Kall Fimbulbringer — Deep North
You can physically travel into a later biome early, but the rewards are designed to make the next biome practical. Mining, crafting and exploration become substantially easier when you follow this sequence.

Where do I find every Valheim boss?
Use a Vegvisir whenever one is available. Interacting with the red-glowing runestone adds a boss marker to your map; the marked altar is selected from several possible locations generated for your seed. The route and summon requirement for each boss are summarized below.
| Order | Boss | Biome and discovery route | Summon requirement | Progression reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Eikthyr | Meadows; the Vegvisir at the starting Sacrificial Stones points to a nearby altar, usually close to spawn. | 2 Deer Trophies | Hard Antlers for the Antler Pickaxe |
| 2 | The Elder | Black Forest; read a Vegvisir in a Burial Chamber to mark the Ancient Bowl. | 3 Ancient Seeds | Swamp Key for Sunken Crypts |
| 3 | Bonemass | Swamp; a Vegvisir in a Sunken Crypt points to the Boiling Death altar. | 10 Withered Bones | Wishbone for buried silver and treasure |
| 4 | Moder | Mountains; ruined stone towers near high peaks can contain the Vegvisir and lead to the altar. | 3 Dragon Eggs | Dragon Tear for the Artisan Table |
| 5 | Yagluth | Plains; Vegvisirs occur around large stone formations and point to the Mystical Altar. | 5 Fuling Totems | Torn Spirit for Mistlands progression |
| 6 | The Queen | Mistlands; Infested Mines provide the route to the sealed Infested Citadel. | Sealbreaker for the first fight; 3 Seeker Soldier Trophies for rematches | Majestic Carapace |
| 7 | Fader | Ashlands; read a Vegvisir in a Charred Fortress. The arena is generally a coliseum and more rarely a Charred Ruin. | 3 Bells made from Bell Fragments | Fader Relic |
| 8 | Kall Fimbulbringer | Deep North; follow the Aesir Passage and its dungeon sequence to the Prison arena. | 3 Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl | Sacrificial Blood and Crown Jewel |
How do Valheim boss locations work in a generated world?
Boss altars are seed-dependent, so a location that works in one world will not work in another. Each boss can have multiple candidate sites; reading one Vegvisir chooses one of those sites and marks it on your map. Treat published coordinates as seed-specific information, not as a universal answer to Valheim boss locations.
In-game method for marking an altar
- Enter the biome associated with the boss you are pursuing.
- Search the relevant structure for a red-glowing Vegvisir: the starting stones for Eikthyr, Burial Chambers for The Elder, Sunken Crypts for Bonemass, mountain towers for Moder, stone formations for Yagluth, Infested Mines for The Queen and Charred Fortresses for Fader.
- Interact with the Vegvisir. A map marker appears for an altar or, for a dungeon boss, the entrance to the correct structure.
- Travel to the marker, clear enough space to work safely and bring the offering listed for that boss.
- Activate the altar, bowl or dungeon entrance only when your group is ready. Summoning starts the encounter and consumes or uses the required items.
How far away can an altar generate?
Current world-generation data gives useful search expectations, but not guaranteed coordinates. It lists up to three Eikthyr altars within 1,000 metres of world centre; up to four Elder altars between 1,000 and 7,000 metres; up to five Bonemass altars between 2,000 and 10,000 metres; and up to three Moder altars as far as 8,000 metres. The first four also have altitude bands in the generation data. Yagluth, The Queen and Fader can appear at later-biome distances without a single fixed radius, while the Deep North altar is listed above 80 metres elevation. These are placement rules for generation, not promises about your seed.
What do I need to summon each Valheim boss?
The offerings range from early-game trophies to multi-step keys and ritual components. Gather them before you begin the journey so a marked altar does not become an unnecessary return trip.

Eikthyr: two Deer Trophies
Hunt deer in the Meadows until you have two Deer Trophies, then place them at Eikthyr’s altar. His Hard Antlers unlock the Antler Pickaxe, the first practical tool for mining ore and moving beyond basic equipment.
The Elder: three Ancient Seeds
Burial Chambers in the Black Forest contain Vegvisirs that point to the Ancient Bowl. Offer three Ancient Seeds there. The resulting Swamp Key opens locked Sunken Crypts, where the next biome’s iron-bearing progression begins.

Locate a Swamp Vegvisir inside a Sunken Crypt and carry ten Withered Bones to the Boiling Death altar. Bonemass drops the Wishbone, which detects buried silver in the Mountains and also helps locate hidden treasure.
Moder: three Dragon Eggs
Mountain peaks and ruined stone towers are the usual places to find Moder’s Vegvisir. The altar requires three Dragon Eggs. Their weight makes transport planning important, because you must move all three to the marked mountain altar. Moder’s Dragon Tear enables the Artisan Table and the crafting tier that follows.

Yagluth: five Fuling Totems
Read a Plains Vegvisir around the large stone formations, then bring five Fuling Totems to the Mystical Altar. Some current references display three totems, while other current guides specify five; use five for the 1.0 route and check the summoning text in your installed build after a patch. Yagluth’s Torn Spirit supports Mistlands progression.
The Queen: Sealbreaker, then Seeker Soldier Trophies
The Queen is not a normal exposed altar fight. Infested Mines point toward an Infested Citadel, a sealed dungeon. Build or obtain a Sealbreaker to open the first encounter. Once defeated, three Seeker Soldier Trophies are required for each rematch. Her Majestic Carapace advances the later crafting sequence.
Fader: three Bells
Search Charred Fortresses in the Ashlands for a Vegvisir. It points to an arena normally described as a coliseum, although a Charred Ruin can be used instead. Craft three Bells from Bell Fragments and perform the ritual at the marked site. Fader’s Relic belongs to the Ashlands endgame progression.
Kall Fimbulbringer: three Malicious Blood
The Deep North route runs through the Aesir Passage and its dungeon sequence to the Prison arena. At the Strange Bowl, use three Malicious Blood to summon Kall Fimbulbringer. The finale yields Sacrificial Blood and a Crown Jewel, completing the current boss chain.

What does each boss reward unlock?
Every victory has two progression effects: a trophy that can be hung at the Sacrificial Stones to unlock that boss’s Forsaken Power, and a material or key that opens the next stage. The powers are separate from the altar offering, so remember to return a trophy to the starting stones after the fight.

How do I find the Deep North content in an old world?
Valheim 1.0 launched on September 9, 2026 and added the Deep North. Existing worlds receive newly added content only in areas that have not already been explored. If your old save has already loaded or travelled through a region where the new content would generate, move into an unexplored area or create a fresh world before searching for the Deep North route. The game supports one to ten players and is available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, but platform availability does not change the boss order or offering rules.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can go wrong when searching for a boss?
- No marker appears: You may have read a decorative stone instead of the red-glowing Vegvisir. Search the correct structure for that biome and interact with the runestone directly.
- The marked site is empty: Confirm that the map marker belongs to the active character’s current world and seed. A coordinate copied from another seed is not reliable.
- The offering will not activate: Check the exact count and item type, then place the items in the altar’s interaction area. For The Queen and Kall, use the dungeon or bowl route rather than looking for an ordinary outdoor altar.
- New Deep North structures do not exist: The area may have been explored before the 1.0 update. Travel to unexplored terrain or use a new world.
- Yagluth’s count differs: Five Fuling Totems is the current route used here, but a later build may revise the requirement. Read the altar prompt in your installed version before farming a final set.
Where to find every Valheim boss: a practical preparation checklist
Before leaving for a marked altar, carry the offering, a spare portal or return plan where your world rules allow it, food appropriate to the biome and equipment that matches the progression tier. Confirm that the marker is on the active world map, clear a safe approach to the altar and decide who will carry heavy items such as Dragon Eggs. After the kill, collect the trophy, return to the Sacrificial Stones to claim the Forsaken Power and use the progression reward before pushing into the next biome.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I summon a Valheim boss more than once?
Yes. The first victory advances progression, while later fights are useful for additional trophies and repeat rewards. The Queen has a specifically documented rematch cost of three Seeker Soldier Trophies; other repeat summons use the offering shown by the altar in your build.

Do all players in a multiplayer world receive a boss reward?
The boss event occurs in the shared world, so the group can fight together. Each player should make sure they loot or otherwise obtain the trophy and then visit the Sacrificial Stones on their own character to unlock the corresponding Forsaken Power.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Is a seed-map website required to locate an altar?
No. Every route can be solved in-game by finding and reading the correct Vegvisir. A seed map is optional and is most useful when you want to preview candidate altars for a loaded world rather than explore for the runestone.
Why is The Queen listed differently from the other bosses?
Her encounter begins inside the Infested Citadel, which is a sealed dungeon reached through Infested Mines. You are locating an entrance and opening it with a Sealbreaker, not walking up to a conventional exposed altar in the Mistlands.
