WhatsApp Will Stop Working on KaiOS Phones is now a completed shutdown, not a future warning: new and logged-out users lost support on June 25, 2024, and users who stayed logged in received only a temporary extension into early 2025. As of August 18, 2026, no supported KaiOS workaround restores WhatsApp.
The change affects the WhatsApp service on KaiOS, not necessarily the handset itself. A Nokia, Alcatel, TCL, JioPhone, Energizer, or other KaiOS phone may still make cellular calls, send SMS messages, connect to Wi-Fi, browse the web, and run other applications.

Why did WhatsApp stop working on KaiOS phones?

KaiOS’s user-facing notice established two different deadlines. New users and people who had logged out could no longer sign up or sign back in after June 25, 2024. People who were already logged in on an eligible KaiOS device received temporary continued access into early 2025. The KaiOS WhatsApp sign-up documentation repeated that distinction.
The official KaiOS notice does not state a universal exact final time; it says “early 2025.” A technical account from the KaiOS community reported a precise cutoff of January 10, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. UTC. That exact time should be treated as reported community evidence rather than as a date directly stated in the official KaiOS notice.

The June 25, 2024 date therefore did not mean that every person lost access on the same day. Articles that describe June 25 as the complete shutdown date omit the temporary exception for users who were already logged in.

The discontinued component is WhatsApp on KaiOS. Depending on the handset and the state of the old application, a user may see different symptoms:
- WhatsApp cannot be registered on a phone that never used it.
- A user who logged out cannot sign in again.
- A factory-reset phone asks for setup but cannot complete WhatsApp registration.
- An old session stops connecting to WhatsApp’s servers.
- The WhatsApp icon remains on the home screen or in the KaiStore, but the application cannot communicate with the service.
WhatsApp’s withdrawal does not automatically disable cellular voice calls, carrier SMS, Wi-Fi, the browser, alarms, FM radio, offline media, or every other KaiOS application. A KaiOS handset can remain useful as a non-WhatsApp phone.
Does the KaiOS model or version matter?
The model no longer changes the practical answer. WhatsApp historically supported various KaiOS 2.5-era devices, and KaiOS documentation described compatibility on KaiOS version 2.5.1 or later. The KaiOS Help Center archive documents that historical requirement, but KaiOS 2.5.1, KaiOS 2.5.3, or a different KaiOS handset cannot restore a service that has been withdrawn from the platform.

Can a software update fix WhatsApp on KaiOS?
No. There is no credible evidence that a KaiOS firmware update can reinstate official WhatsApp support after the service cutoff. A firmware update can repair ordinary operating-system bugs, but it cannot recreate server-side compatibility that WhatsApp has withdrawn.
Before the shutdown, updating KaiOS or WhatsApp, correcting the phone’s date and time, and clearing application data could sometimes solve routine setup or connection problems. Those troubleshooting steps are not a solution after the platform sunset.
Do not rely on unofficial APKs, modified clients, sideloading attempts, or “WhatsApp revival” tools. KaiOS applications are not interchangeable with Android APK files, and unofficial clients can expose account credentials while creating additional security and compatibility risks.
What happens if I factory-reset or log out of a KaiOS phone?
A factory reset removes local phone state and generally leaves the user needing to sign in again. Under the former KaiOS policy, a user who logged out or needed to set up WhatsApp again after June 25, 2024 was treated as a new or unsupported user.
Do not factory-reset a KaiOS phone merely to troubleshoot WhatsApp, and do not log out while hoping to preserve an old session. That temporary logged-in exception expired in early 2025. If WhatsApp is already inaccessible in 2026, a factory reset will not bring it back.

Not officially. Ordinary WhatsApp messaging and WhatsApp voice or video functions that previously worked on eligible KaiOS phones are no longer supported in August 2026.

Mobile-network calls and SMS are different services. A KaiOS phone may still use the carrier network for calls and text messages even though the internet-based WhatsApp client can no longer connect to WhatsApp’s servers.
Can I use WhatsApp Web in the KaiOS browser?
WhatsApp Web is not a dependable workaround for a discontinued KaiOS client. WhatsApp Web is designed as a companion to a supported WhatsApp account and device ecosystem; opening a website in a KaiOS browser does not restore official KaiOS application support.
A KaiOS browser may lack the compatibility, authentication flow, performance, or persistent connection needed for reliable WhatsApp Web use. A reader who needs WhatsApp should move the account to a supported Android phone or iPhone instead of depending on a browser workaround.
Will photos, contacts, and chats disappear?

Carrier listings such as T-Mobile’s TCL FLIP Go listing can help establish what a carrier sells, but buyers should still confirm the current model specifications and activation requirements.

If WhatsApp is essential for even one contact, a supported Android phone or iPhone is the safer choice. SMS, ordinary voice calls, email, or another messaging service may cover a specific communication need, but none of those options restores WhatsApp on KaiOS.
