If Ryan Laley’s Mimic left you wanting more horror made by one-person teams, start with Lethal Company for crew panic with friends, IT STEALS for solo maze horror, or Iron Lung for a claustrophobic sci-fi story. Mimic itself is a multiplayer-first Early Access game: five players in matchmaking, up to ten in private lobbies, aboard a failing ship where survivors repair an escape shuttle and try to uncover an alien mimic. There are no player guns; trust, proximity voice chat and a hunting android shape the danger. It launched on Steam and the Epic Games Store on 27 October 2026.
The recommendations below keep confirmed solo or one-person games distinct from excellent small-studio horror. That distinction matters: some of the closest matches in mood, including Mouthwashing and Signalis, were made by teams rather than solo developers.

What is Mimic, and what kind of follow-up fits?
Mimic is Ryan Laley’s solo-developed social-deduction survival-horror game, not Roblox’s The Mimic or a separate itch.io listing with a similar name. Its setup blends hidden roles and suspicion with survival aboard the Icarus, a ship heading toward a nearby sun as its oxygen runs out. The crew has to repair a rescue shuttle and identify the alien wearing a human survivor; nobody carries a player weapon.
Its inspirations include John Carpenter’s The Thing, Secret Hitler and Alien: Isolation. A useful shorthand is “Among Us but Alien: Isolation,” though that does not capture all its roles and threats. The mimic can blend in, build trust and hunt; it can take an android form for better awareness, but must return to human form to hide, and can place an egg that allows it to return after death. A corporate agent has secret objectives that may not put the crew first. An NPC android hunts organic life, and players can vote to send it after a suspect. Dead players return as invisible saboteurs called Omens.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Proximity voice chat makes closeness useful for coordination and risky for deception. Matchmaking is for five players; customizable private lobbies can support up to ten. Private-lobby affixes add modifiers, and Twitch viewers can interfere with the android hunt. That makes the best follow-up depend on what you want to keep: the unstable crew, the alien-in-the-room suspicion, the cramped sci-fi setting, or simply a short, strange horror experience.
Which solo-developed horror games are closest to Mimic?
For the closest multiplayer cousin, choose Lethal Company. For the same creator’s single-player work, pick IT STEALS; for the shipboard sci-fi dread without social deduction, play Iron Lung.
1. Lethal Company — play for crew paranoia
Lethal Company is the clearest next stop if the best part of Mimic was watching a crew try to function while fear scrambles communication. Zeekerss’s game sends a group to scavenge derelict moons to meet a corporate quota. Proximity voice makes it possible to coordinate, lose track of one another, or hear a teammate’s panic at the worst moment. The crew-and-corporation setup is a strong mechanical parallel, but it is not a hidden-mimic game: its pressure comes from scavenging, hostile creatures and the quota.
In Game News described Zeekerss as a single developer still handling updates alone in its 2 November 2025 coverage. Lethal Company was still in Early Access at that time. GamerScout listed it at about $10 per player in June 2026; treat that as a dated catalog figure, not a live price quote. It is designed for one to four players. Solo play is possible, but Siliconera reported in November 2023 that the quota does not scale down, leaving a lone player with work intended for a group; Coil-Heads and Snare Fleas are also harder to handle alone. Pick it for friends and shared panic, not as a substitute for Mimic’s social deduction.
2. IT STEALS — play for the creator’s solo horror
IT STEALS is the choice when you want Zeekerss’s horror without organizing a crew. Destructoid’s updated June 2025 coverage describes an earlier single-player game built around a Pac-Man-like labyrinth, multiple modes and entities intent on killing the player. The maze changes the kind of tension: instead of listening for friends or deciding whether a crewmate is lying, you have to navigate danger alone.

It is a useful contrast to Lethal Company from the same creator. The former gives you the shared task-and-voice-chat loop; the latter offers a solo route into Zeekerss’s creature-focused horror. The available details establish its broad premise and modes, but not a reliable runtime or current price, so it is better to choose it for the solo-maze hook than for a particular session length.
3. Iron Lung — play for sci-fi isolation
In Iron Lung, you pilot a tiny submarine through an ocean of blood on an alien moon, working with a camera and map. It strips away the social layer that makes Mimic distinctive: there is no crew to persuade and no suspected impostor to identify. The appeal is confinement, limited information and slow-building dread. In a 2016 HorrorBuzz interview, David Szymanski described a preference for “slow-building dread to outright terror” and said he planned to work on his own at that time. That is historical context, not a claim about the headcount on every later game; Iron Lung is credited to Szymanski as developer and publisher.

GamerScout had listed an approximately $5.99 catalog price in June 2026, an earlier figure rather than the later one. TheGameSlayer reported in February 2026 that Mark Fischbach’s film adaptation had just released in cinemas worldwide. The game is a strong pick when the spacecraft atmosphere matters more than playing with other people.
What finished solo horror should I play after Mimic?
Choose FAITH: The Unholy Trinity for a complete, highly rated occult-horror campaign. Its deliberately stark presentation and cassette-tape audio offer a very different kind of fear from Mimic’s industrial ship and live voice chat.
4. FAITH: The Unholy Trinity — play for lo-fi occult dread
FAITH: The Unholy Trinity gathers Airdorf’s 8-bit occult horror into a finished package. It centers on exorcism, pixel-black imagery, cassette-like audio and animated cutscenes. The minimal visuals do not make it a casual or cheerful choice: its subject matter is occult horror, and its fear comes from what the presentation suggests as much as what it shows.

MobyGames identifies Airdorf Games as the name used for titles by independent developer Mason Smith, with credits including FAITH (2017/2022) and Tenebris Somnia (2026). HorrorGamePlay lists the completed FAITH: The Unholy Trinity as released on 21 October 2022, about 4.5 hours long, and $14.99, with 95% of 8,510 Steam reviews in its 2026 figures. GamerScout’s June 2026 listing also places it on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch at about $14.99. That makes it a useful solo-auteur alternative if you want something finished rather than another living Early Access game.

Which other one-person horror games are worth a look?
These picks widen the mood beyond spaceship paranoia: one turns the computer into part of the haunted fiction, one is a contemporary short-form horror movie, and one is a compact psychological haunted-house story.
5. IMSCARED — play for metafiction
IMSCARED is a low-fi horror game by Ivan Zanotti, associated with MyMadnessWorks. Its fiction reaches into the computer-facing experience: cryptic files and YouTube clues contribute to a sentient-malware tone. That is a better fit for someone curious about horror that plays with the boundary between a game and the computer around it than for someone seeking another crew simulator. Destructoid’s description emphasizes this virus-like behavior and the clues; the available details do not establish a current price or a dependable completion time.
6. Grease Trap 99 — play for a short, current auteur piece
Grease Trap 99 is a short interactive horror movie set in a Scottish takeaway, with low-poly visuals, glitches and dark humor. The Guardian’s 27 October 2026 Halloween coverage identifies James Muirhead as its lone developer and notes dialogue in Scottish Gaelic. It is not a mechanical Mimic clone; its place here is as a concise example of a distinct creator’s horror voice. Its setting and language also make it a more locally specific experience than the generic haunted-house premise.
7. Locked Up — play for a compact haunted-house story
Locked Up is a psychological haunted-house game from EMIKA_GAMES, identified as a one-person studio. HorrorGamePlay lists it as the studio’s first project, released on 23 April 2020, with an approximate runtime of 120 minutes and $12.99; it was Mostly Positive from 1,312 reviews in that listing. The content warnings include violence, alcohol or drugs, and flashing light. It is a shorter, solitary change of pace if you want a contained house rather than a creaking spacecraft, but those warnings make it worth checking whether its content suits you.

What if I want Mimic’s mood, not a solo developer?
Several of the most natural follow-ups are excellent indie horror, but they should not be labeled solo-developed. Mouthwashing is the closest narrative match for a ship’s crew coming apart; Signalis, SOMA and others offer adjacent science-fiction or retro-horror moods while coming from teams.
Mouthwashing — the nearest narrative spaceship match
Mouthwashing is by Wrong Organ, a small studio, not a solo developer. Its shipwrecked freighter, unreliable narration and crew-focused narrative make it a particularly close thematic companion to Mimic, though it is a scripted story rather than multiplayer social deduction. GameSpot notes minor jumpscares. HorrorGamePlay’s 2026 compilation lists 95% of 37,629 Steam reviews, a runtime of about 2.5 hours and a price of $12.99. The game released on 26 September 2024, with PC, PlayStation 5, Switch and Xbox versions listed in the coverage. Its heavy themes make it a more intense narrative choice than the quick premise might suggest.
Other small-studio choices by mood
- Signalis: rose-engine’s 27 October 2022 release is a retro science-fiction survival-horror game featuring Replika Elster. GameSpot notes that it avoids jumpscares; its listed platforms include Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox. Games-Genie named it its best overall indie horror in 2026 and gave it an internal score of 92%.
- SOMA: Frictional Games’ underwater identity horror is the art-house choice if you want existential science fiction rather than crew-based deduction. GameSpot’s original review scored it 9/10.
- Amnesia: The Bunker: Frictional Games’ 2023 entry uses a monster responsive to noise. It is a small-studio recommendation, not a solo-developed one.
- Crow Country: SFB Games’ 9 May 2024 release uses a PS1-style theme-park setting, and GameSpot notes that combat can be turned off. Choose it for retro survival horror with an option to reduce combat.
- Darkwood: Acid Wizard’s top-down horror builds dread around surviving the night. Games-Genie gave it an internal 91% score in 2026.
- Mundaun: Hidden Fields’ Alpine folklore horror is an auteur-style work, but not established as wholly solo-developed. Games-Genie says its visuals were hand-penciled by a single developer; that art credit does not prove that one person handled all coding, audio and design. GameSpot notes one jumpscare.
Other adjacent styles include Detention and Devotion from Taiwan’s Red Candle Games, and Mike Klubnika’s social-tension game Buckshot Roulette, published by Critical Reflex. The latter is not a Mimic clone, but Niche Gamer reported a Metacritic score of 85 and more than four million units sold in 2026; GamerScout listed an entry price of about $2.99 in June 2026. For night-shift J-horror, TheGameSlayer describes Chilla’s Art as a two-person studio, not a solo creator. These are useful options when “indie horror” matters more than a strict one-person credit.
How should I choose based on the part of Mimic I liked?
Keep the social layer if you want the same friends-and-fear dynamic; drop it if you want a private, solitary experience. Runtime and development status also matter: Mimic is newly in Early Access, while the finished recommendations below are complete games.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- I want the same kind of group tension: Start with Lethal Company. It is cooperative rather than a hidden-role deduction game, and its quota does not scale down for solo play.
- I want the same creator, but solo: Choose IT STEALS for a labyrinth and hostile entities.
- I want a ship, but no team chat: Pick Iron Lung for a roughly one-hour submersible horror story. For a longer narrative crew story, choose Mouthwashing, remembering that it is a small-studio game, not solo.
- I want a finished solo-auteur campaign: FAITH: The Unholy Trinity offers about 4.5 hours of occult horror.
- I want an unusual computer-facing horror experience: Try IMSCARED.
- I want a compact, solitary haunted-house game: Locked Up is listed at about two hours; review its content warnings first.
- I want something short and creator-led from 2026: Grease Trap 99 is a short interactive horror movie, though it is not built around Mimic’s mechanics.
What should I know about Mimic’s Early Access status?
Mimic launched on 27 October 2026, and its creator explicitly says it is unfinished. Ryan Laley wrote in the Early Access launch post: “Early Access means exactly that. MIMIC isn’t finished, and there will undoubtedly be bugs, rough edges, and things that need improving.”

The Steam Next Fest demo, which included one map and matchmaking, ran until 26 October 2026. Steam news lists post-launch patches 1.0.1 on 28 October and 1.0.3 on 29 October. Planned additions include three maps, more affixes, more lore about the Icarus and its corporation, and a single-player mode that is not available at launch. Notebookcheck reported that a second map with an arctic, The Thing-inspired setting was intended shortly after launch. These are plans, not a dated delivery schedule: Laley said he would not promise specific feature dates because priorities and technical challenges can change.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions are planned after Early Access, in 2027, but no exact window is locked. For a sense of reported performance rather than a minimum-spec guarantee, Notebookcheck measured around 60 FPS at 1080p on a Lenovo LOQ 15IRX10 with a Core i7-14700HX, RTX 5060 laptop GPU with 8 GB, and 16 GB RAM, using the High preset, DLSS Quality, and motion blur and anti-aliasing off. That is one tested configuration, not an official minimum or recommended PC specification. The Steam page is age-gated, and no current review percentage, review count, concurrent-player peak or exact USD/EUR list price is established here. Ryan Laley’s site advertised “Purchase Mimic 40% off During Launch Week” on 28 October 2026, but without a dollar list price that discount headline cannot determine the amount a buyer would pay.
How were these recommendations selected?
The primary list favors games explicitly credited to solo developers or a one-person studio, with priority given to the overlap that matters after Mimic: crew tension, isolation, distinctive auteur presentation, and a manageable single-player horror experience. Where a game’s creator is named but the available credits do not establish that every part was handled by one person, it is labeled as adjacent rather than presented as a confirmed solo production. The second tier includes small-studio games only where their shipboard, science-fiction or retro-horror mood makes them especially relevant.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mimic have an ESRB or PEGI rating?
No ESRB or PEGI code was identified in the available listings. Steam displays a mature-content age check, which is not the same thing as a stated ESRB or PEGI classification.
Is there a physical edition of Mimic?
No official physical edition, art book or merchandise SKU was identified; the game is distributed digitally through Steam and the Epic Games Store. If you want a physical item connected to one of its stated inspirations, Secret Hitler is a social-deduction board game, but it is not a Mimic product.
What is a good horror game to finish in one night?
Iron Lung is listed at about one hour, while Mouthwashing is about 2.5 hours and FAITH: The Unholy Trinity about 4.5 hours. Those are reported approximate runtimes, not guarantees; playtime depends on pace and exploration.
Can I play Mimic alone while waiting for its single-player mode?
The launch version is multiplayer-first, and its planned single-player mode is not available at launch. For a solo game with related sci-fi confinement, Iron Lung is already a complete option.
