If the remote is broken or won’t connect, start with fresh batteries and pairing steps. When you need a replacement, check that it works with your exact Fire TV Stick model; Amazon also documents a way to pair one without the old remote.
If the remote is lost: use your phone first
Amazon says you can control a Fire TV device with the Fire TV app. Install or open the app on your phone, connect the phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the Fire TV Stick, and select the device in the app. This is a no-purchase option if the Stick is already connected to that network and is reachable there. Try Alexa only if it is already set up
If an Alexa-enabled device is linked to the Fire TV and both devices are registered to the same Amazon account, try a supported voice command. Amazon notes that available features vary, so this may help with some controls but is not a guaranteed substitute for the full remote. Details are in Amazon’s Alexa and Fire TV guidance.
Choose a compatible replacement remote
Remote compatibility depends on the Fire TV model. Before buying, identify your Stick in the device list in your Amazon account, then compare it with Amazon’s current Fire TV remote compatibility list. Do not assume every Alexa Voice Remote works with every Fire TV Stick.

Pair a replacement without the original remote
Amazon provides this pairing route for cases where the original remote is unavailable:
- Unplug the Fire TV Stick from power.
- Reconnect it and wait for the on-screen message that says the remote was not detected.
- Put batteries in the replacement remote and allow it to pair.
- If pairing does not start, hold the replacement remote’s Home button for 10 seconds.

If the remote is present but broken or unresponsive
Check the simple causes first
- Install fresh AAA alkaline batteries, observing the polarity marks in the battery compartment.
- Use the remote within 10 feet (3 m) of the Fire TV device while testing.
- Hold Home for about 10 seconds to try pairing. If it still does not connect, remove the batteries for 30 seconds, put them back, and hold Home again.

Reset only with the instructions for your remote
Amazon provides reset instructions for most remotes, with different steps for some older models. Use the instructions that match your remote generation rather than applying one reset sequence to every model. If pairing still fails, restart the Fire TV device and try again.

Check whether the controller limit has been reached
A Fire TV device can have up to seven controllers paired. If that limit is full, remove a paired controller before adding another. Amazon explains pairing and controller management in its troubleshooting instructions.
