The history shows whether points were earned or spent. For your current balance and points’ expiration date, open Play Points > Use. What to do next depends on whether points are missing from a purchase, a redemption failed at checkout, or a reward has not appeared in its destination.
Check your Play Points history first
Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then select Play Points > More > Points history. Look for the purchase or redemption in question and check whether the points were added or deducted. To view your available balance and expiration date, go to Play Points > Use. This separates a delayed or ineligible earning transaction from a redemption where points were actually used. Follow the path below that matches what you see.
If points from a purchase are missing
- Check when you joined Play Points. A purchase made before you joined does not earn points. Google’s Play Points joining guidance explains how enrollment works.
- Check the Google Account used for the purchase. The transaction must use the same account enrolled in Play Points. A family member’s purchase does not earn points for your account, even if that person uses a family payment method.
- Allow time for processing. Some content and devices take time to confirm. In some circumstances, Google says points may take up to seven days to appear; check Points history again after that period rather than repeating the purchase. See Google’s United States earning guidance.
- Check transaction and offer eligibility. Play Points availability and program details vary by country. Purchases generally need to be eligible Google Play transactions, and promotional offers can have extra requirements. Consult Google’s earning rules for the United States or the guidance for your country.
- Contact Google if the issue remains. Use the “get more help” or contact-support route on Google’s Play Points troubleshooting page. Include the transaction and account details requested in its support flow.
If a reward redemption failed or the reward is missing
First check Points history to confirm whether points were deducted. Then use the guidance for the type of reward or transaction involved.

Points used at Google Play checkout
For an eligible checkout where points are used alongside another payment method, Google says points are deducted when the transaction begins. If the transaction is unsuccessful, the points return within 1–7 days, depending on the payment method. This return window applies to that checkout scenario; it is not a general refund promise for every redemption.
In-app or in-game item
If Points history does not show a deduction, try the purchase again. If the points were used, open the app or game and look for the item there. If it is still missing, follow Google’s restart and troubleshooting steps; if the in-app purchase problem continues, contact the app developer. Google says points used for in-app or in-game items cannot be refunded. See its Android instructions for using Play Points.

Coupon
A coupon exchanged for points applies automatically when you make a qualifying in-app purchase. Check the coupon’s conditions and look in the Play Store for the saved offer or its history. Google lists a one-year expiry for points-derived coupons; check the offer details for your specific coupon.
Google Play credit
Check the Google Play balance associated with the account that redeemed the points. Google says Play credit received by exchanging points expires after one year. The Play Points redemption guidance covers credit and other reward types.

Third-party voucher
For a voucher code issued by a third-party platform, contact that platform about the code or redemption problem. Google directs users to the third party for voucher-code issues.

After checking the ledger, account, eligibility, and applicable processing window, use the support channel that controls the problem: Google Play Help for Play Points or checkout issues, the app developer for an in-app purchase item that is still missing after points were consumed, and the third-party platform for its voucher code. Google notes: “Many Google Play Points issues can be resolved by Google’s support team, but may take some time to take effect.” The outcome of an individual transaction or support case cannot be determined from the public guidance alone.

When contacting support, identify whether the issue is about points earned or redeemed, whether the earning was purchase-based or promotional, and whether the redemption was at Google Play checkout, for an in-app item, or through a third-party voucher. Account, country, payment method, reward type, and the exact error can all affect the applicable rules.
