Find the transaction hash in the sending wallet or exchange, then check it in an XRP Ledger explorer. Wait for a validated result: tesSUCCESS means the payment succeeded on-ledger; another result code means it failed. If a successful payment went to the wrong address, it cannot be reversed on the XRP Ledger. If the address was right but the destination tag was wrong or missing, contact the receiving exchange promptly.
Check the transaction before taking action
- Find the transaction hash. Look in the sending wallet or exchange withdrawal history. Confirm the sending address, destination address, amount, and any destination tag shown.
- Look up the hash. Use an XRP Ledger explorer or transaction lookup, such as the XRP Ledger’s Send XRP guide. Check whether the result is validated; a provisional result can change. The ledger’s finality documentation explains the difference.
- Choose the next step based on the validated result. A wallet’s initial “submitted” or pending message is not proof that the transaction succeeded or failed.

If your XRP transfer is still pending
The XRP Ledger’s Send XRP tutorial says outcomes commonly become final in 4–7 seconds, but network load or connectivity problems can make them take longer. Wait for a validated result rather than treating a wallet’s pending display as final.
The XRP Ledger describes an advanced way that may effectively cancel an unvalidated transaction: submit a replacement transaction from the same sending address using the same sequence number. This is not guaranteed and may be too late once the original has been distributed to the network. It requires control of the sending account, so it is not a routine option for an exchange withdrawal. If XRP was sent to the wrong address
A validated payment cannot be reversed through the XRP Ledger. Coinbase advises contacting the recipient; if you do not know who controls the address, its guidance says there is no available recovery action. See Coinbase’s guidance on crypto sent to the wrong address.

If the address appears to belong to an exchange or hosted wallet, contact that platform using its official support channel. Include the transaction hash and ask whether it can help. Recovery depends on the platform controlling the address and its policies; it is not guaranteed. Binance says it generally does not offer recovery for deposits sent to incorrect addresses, although it may assist at its discretion in some cases: Binance’s wrong-address recovery guidance.
If the address was right but the destination tag was wrong or missing
Exchanges and other hosted services can use destination tags to route deposits received at an address shared by multiple customers. The XRP Ledger does not know which customer account a tag should credit; that mapping is controlled by the receiving service. As a result, a payment can succeed on-ledger but remain uncredited to your account. Learn more about destination and source tags.

Contact the receiving exchange through its official support channel and follow its current recovery process. Coinbase says to contact support about a wrong destination tag and be prepared to provide the transaction hash: Coinbase tag troubleshooting. Binance describes an application route for some missing or incorrect-tag deposits, but eligibility, fees, return-address rules, and processing are platform-specific: Binance’s recovery guidance. Neither route guarantees recovery.
Use the current XRP deposit address and tag displayed by the recipient platform. Kraken, for example, says an XRP deposit address generated for its account has a unique mandatory destination tag: Kraken’s instructions for finding a deposit address.

What to include in a support request
Use only the exchange’s official support portal. Provide the details needed to identify the payment and account for the tag discrepancy:
- Transaction hash
- XRP amount
- Sending and destination addresses
- Date and time
- Intended destination tag and the tag entered, or confirmation that no tag was entered
Binance’s recovery article requests the transaction hash and accurate deposit details and says that, after review, any return goes to the original sender address. Do not assume another platform uses the same process or return-address rule.
