The reported 533% growth projection is not for the entire AI PC laptop market. It refers to a forecast for shipments of Arm-based Microsoft Copilot+ laptops: 800,000 in 2024 rising to 5.2 million in 2025, according to Omdia as reported by TweakTown in 2024. Those figures are forecasts, not confirmed shipment results, and the original Omdia forecast containing them was not located.
What does the 533% figure cover?
The figure was attributed to Omdia by TweakTown in 2024. It describes projected shipments of a specific segment: Arm-based Microsoft Copilot+ AI laptops. The reported forecast starts at 800,000 shipments in 2024 and reaches 5.2 million in 2025, an increase of more than 533%.
That is a narrow slice of the market, not a forecast that all AI PC laptops will grow by 533%. The original Omdia document with these exact figures was not located, so the numbers should be treated as a secondary report of an Omdia forecast—not as a verified actual result.
The large percentage also starts from a relatively small base. A sharp rise in this segment would not, by itself, show that Arm-based Copilot+ laptops dominate PC sales or the wider AI PC market.

How does it compare with broader AI PC forecasts?
Other forecasts use broader categories. Gartner’s September 25, 2024 forecast projected 43 million AI PC shipments worldwide in 2024 and said AI PCs would account for 43% of all PC shipments in 2025. Omdia separately forecast more than 100 million AI-capable PC shipments in 2025, or around 40% of all PC shipments.

These estimates should not be combined into one market-growth calculation. They cover different categories, and the cited forecasts do not establish that the firms used identical definitions. They were published before or during the forecast period; they are projections, not evidence of final 2025 shipment outcomes. Gartner’s figures are described in its September 2024 forecast, while Omdia’s broader projection appears on its AI-capable PC forecast page.

Why do “AI PC” and “Copilot+ PC” mean different things?
There is no single universal definition of an AI PC in the cited sources. Gartner counts a PC with an embedded neural processing unit (NPU) as an AI PC. Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC label is narrower: it applies to a class of Windows 11 devices with an NPU capable of more than 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS).
That distinction matters when reading forecasts. A broad AI PC estimate may include devices that meet Gartner’s embedded-NPU definition but do not meet Microsoft’s Copilot+ performance threshold. What does the projection mean for laptop buyers?
The forecast signals expected growth in one new laptop segment; it does not prove that a particular device is the best choice. Microsoft lists Copilot+ laptop families such as Surface Laptop and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge on its Copilot+ PC product page. A product-family listing establishes that devices exist, but it does not compare configurations or determine which suits a particular buyer.

- Compatibility: Confirm that your operating system, applications, peripherals, and required workflows run properly on the specific device and processor architecture.
- NPU and features: Check the model’s NPU capability and which AI features are supported. A Copilot+ label indicates Microsoft’s stated class requirements, but feature availability can depend on the device and software.
- Everyday hardware: Compare memory, storage, battery life, portability, display, ports, and warranty—not only AI branding.
- Configuration and price: Verify the exact model, specification, regional availability, and current price before choosing; a family name alone does not identify a configuration.
