Samsung Cloud can back up and restore selected Galaxy data—such as call and message history, on-device contacts and calendars, settings, Home screen layout, and app data—but ordinary device backup does not include Gallery photos or videos. The exact list varies by Galaxy model, software, country, and carrier, so check the backup options on your phone before relying on them.
What Samsung Cloud backs up
Samsung Cloud’s device-backup feature saves selected data so it can be restored to a compatible Galaxy device. Samsung’s support lists vary by region; the categories below are the ones Samsung describes across its current support material.

Samsung Australia says files larger than 1 GB cannot be backed up to Samsung Cloud. Exact limits and available categories may differ elsewhere.
Does Samsung Cloud back up photos and videos?
No—not as part of an ordinary Samsung Cloud device backup. Samsung US explicitly excludes Gallery photos and videos from that backup. The distinction matters: having a Samsung Cloud backup does not mean your camera roll is protected.

Samsung Gallery’s direct sync with Microsoft OneDrive ended on September 30, 2026. Microsoft says existing photos and videos remain accessible in OneDrive, but they no longer sync directly into Samsung Gallery. To back up new camera-roll photos and videos to OneDrive, adjust camera upload settings in the OneDrive app. This is a separate OneDrive feature, not Samsung Cloud device backup. Backup is not the same as sync
A device backup is intended to restore selected data to a compatible Galaxy device. Sync keeps selected categories, such as Samsung-account contacts or notes, aligned across signed-in devices. Syncing one category does not create a downloadable copy of the whole phone or guarantee that it is part of a device restore.

Depending on region and device, Samsung-account sync options can include contacts and calendars, Reminders, Samsung Notes, Samsung Pass, Wi-Fi networks, Samsung Internet or Browser data, Samsung Health, Bluetooth device information, and avatars or AR Emoji. Some regional lists also mention Gallery; do not interpret older Gallery instructions as evidence that Gallery-to-OneDrive sync still operates after September 30, 2026. How to check what your Galaxy will back up
- Open Settings > Accounts and backup > Samsung Cloud > Back up data. Menu labels may differ by model or software version.
- Review the categories shown on your phone. Samsung says supported items and availability vary by model, software version, country, and carrier.
- Select the items you want and run the backup. Wait for Samsung Cloud to show that it has completed before resetting or handing over the device.
- Make a separate plan for Gallery photos and videos; they are not included in ordinary device backup.
- Confirm how you will recover the data. Samsung says individual device backups cannot be downloaded as files from the portal; restoring requires a compatible device.

Temporary Cloud Backup is useful for a short repair window, while Smart Switch provides a computer-based copy. Neither should be confused with ongoing Samsung Cloud device backup; choose the route based on what you need to protect and how you expect to restore it.
