Start with YouTube Studio’s “When your viewers are on YouTube” report, choose a recurring time you can sustain, and compare similar livestreams to see how your audience responds.
Find when your viewers are active on YouTube
- Open YouTube Studio.
- Select Analytics, then the Audience tab.
- Find “When your viewers are on YouTube.” YouTube says this report shows when your viewers were online across YouTube during the past 28 days. YouTube describes it as a tool to help plan your next livestream; it is not a forecast or guarantee of attendance at a particular stream. See YouTube Help: Understand your YouTube audience.
Use the report as a channel-specific starting point, not a universal rule. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish a best hour or day for all creators, an industry-wide daypart benchmark, or a numerical lift from choosing a particular time.
Choose a time you can keep
Look for a feasible recurring slot that aligns with the activity shown in your report and fits your own preparation time, format, and production capacity. A time that appears promising but is difficult to maintain may be less useful than a workable schedule viewers can learn to expect.
YouTube’s live scheduling guidance emphasizes a consistent, sustainable schedule and recommends communicating it to your audience. Share the planned day and time where your viewers are likely to see it, and consider how often you can reliably go live. See YouTube Help: Upload schedule tips.

Test slots with comparable livestreams
If more than one time looks workable, treat your choice as an experiment. Try the candidate slots across streams with similar formats and topics, and keep the schedule and promotion as consistent as practical. Compare results over multiple streams rather than treating one unusually strong or weak broadcast as decisive.
Review the measures that match your goal. YouTube Studio provides livestream metrics during and after a broadcast; useful measures include average and peak concurrent viewers, watch time, average view duration, audience retention, and traffic sources. - For live reach: compare average and peak concurrent viewers.
- For viewing depth: compare watch time, average view duration, and retention.
- For discovery: inspect traffic sources to see how viewers found each stream.
Do not assume the time slot caused every difference. Topic, format, promotion, seasonality, and execution can all affect performance. When choosing between slots, weigh the results alongside sustainability and the expectations you want to set for viewers.
