Google Pixel HiLight is a ring of ambient, color-coded LEDs around the rear camera flash on select Pixel 11 Pro phones. With the phone face down, it can show a custom light cue for calls from favorite contacts and signal Gemini activity during hands-free interaction. It is a built-in phone feature, not a separate accessory.
What the HiLight LED does
Google describes HiLight as “a ring of ambient, color-coded LED lights wrapped around the camera’s flash.” The rear-facing light is designed to make selected activity visible while the phone is face down, without requiring you to look at the screen. Google frames the idea as: “Stay informed without looking at your screen.”
Favorite-contact calls
You can assign a color to a selected contact so their call has a recognizable light cue. Android Authority’s launch report says this works for calls through Phone by Google and WhatsApp; Google’s feature description does not provide the same app-by-app list. Google characterizes the lights as a way to stay present, a marketing description rather than a measured outcome.
Gemini activity
HiLight can also provide visual feedback when Gemini is active during hands-free interaction. Android Authority reports that the light pulses while Gemini listens, processes a request, and responds. Google’s official description confirms the Gemini cue but does not enumerate those stages.

Which Pixel phones include HiLight?
Launch coverage names the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold as supported devices. Google’s feature page names Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro Fold in its takeaways and also links to Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL. The reviewed material does not name the base Pixel 11 as supported, so check the exact model and regional product listing if HiLight matters to your buying decision.
HiLight is built into supported phones; the available sources do not describe an LED accessory that adds it to other Pixel models. The sources also do not establish different light patterns or behavior among the supported Pro models.

Are message alerts supported?
Google’s feature description and launch coverage explain contact-call colors and Gemini cues. Android Authority reports that Google planned message notifications from favorite contacts, and T3 likewise described messaging support as forthcoming. Neither report gives a firm arrival date, and the reviewed sources do not confirm whether that update has reached users as of 4 October 2026. Treat message alerts as planned rather than a confirmed current capability.
