Depending on its settings, you may be able to update selected billing details or payment methods, view invoices, change an eligible subscription, or cancel it.
What can I change in the Stripe customer portal?
The portal is a hosted interface for subscription management and payment-method updates. Stripe provides the portal, but the business chooses which functions to expose through its configuration. As a result, two customers using Stripe may see different options. Stripe’s portal configuration API lists the controls businesses can set.
Selected customer details
If customer updates are enabled, the business can permit changes to specific fields: billing address, email, name, phone, shipping address, and tax ID. The portal does not necessarily allow changes to every field; the business selects which ones customers may edit.
Payment methods and invoice history
Payment-method updates and invoice history are separate configurable features. A portal may let you update a saved payment method, show your invoice history, provide both options, or provide neither.

Subscription changes
When subscription updates are enabled, a business can allow price changes, quantity changes, or promotion-code entry. It can also restrict changes to specified products and eligible prices. Stripe’s configuration API permits up to 10 configured products for this subscription-update feature; that is a configuration limit, not a promise that every customer can choose among 10 products.
Can I cancel my Stripe subscription through the portal?
You can cancel through the portal only if the business has enabled cancellation. The configured cancellation mode determines whether cancellation takes effect immediately or at the end of the billing period. A business may also enable collection of cancellation reasons. Stripe’s configuration reference describes these options.

Cancellation does not by itself mean that outstanding balances disappear. Stripe says immediate subscription cancellation stops future subscription charges; by default, automatic collection of finalized invoices also stops after cancellation. That is a billing-collection consequence, not a statement that an already-issued invoice or balance is erased. Proration behavior is configurable, so the financial effect can depend on the business’s settings. See Stripe’s subscription cancellation API for the cancellation behavior.
Why can’t I change my plan or billing details?
A missing option may reflect the business’s portal configuration rather than a universal Stripe restriction. For example, a business may leave customer updates or subscription changes disabled, permit only certain customer fields, or limit plan changes to selected products and prices. If the action you need is absent, contact the business that bills you and ask whether it can change the setting or make the change for you.

How do I get to the customer portal?
The route depends on the business’s integration. It may share a portal link or direct existing subscribers to the portal from a pricing-table flow. Stripe’s pricing-table documentation describes that redirect context. If you cannot find a portal link, look in the business’s billing or account area, or ask its support team for the correct route.

- Whether invoice history and payment-method updates are available.
- Which products, prices, quantities, and promotion codes are permitted for subscription updates.
- Whether cancellation is available, when it takes effect, and how proration is configured.
