Short answer: Warzone keeps a substantial portion of recent Call of Duty content, but not everything and not in every mode. Operators, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and legacy weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 remain usable in Warzone. Legacy Weapon Camos are explicitly excluded. Legacy weapons also lose the old Gunsmith and Custom Loadout experience: base weapons use fixed five-attachment versions, while existing blueprints keep their established attachment setups.
That Warzone policy is not a blanket import into Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ. Modern Warfare 4 is a separately purchased game with its own progression. Your account, platform, mode, and the type of item determine what you can actually use.
The carry-forward rule in one view
The official Season 1 announcement describes retained content for Warzone. It does not promise that every item bought or earned in earlier games becomes native content in Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ.

| Content or feature | Warzone status | Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operators | Retained from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 | Not promised by the carry-forward announcement | Availability described for Warzone, not universal compatibility |
| Operator Skins | Retained from those four titles | Not promised | Use depends on the Warzone collection and linked account |
| Weapon Blueprints | Retained from those four titles | Not promised | Existing attachment setups remain; old Gunsmith editing does not |
| Legacy weapons | Accessible through Warzone’s Legacy tab | Not promised | Each base weapon gets a five-attachment version |
| Legacy Weapon Camos | Not available | Not promised | An official correction specifically removed them from the carry-forward list |
| Old Custom Loadouts | Not supported for legacy weapons or legacy blueprints | Not promised | Do not expect your previous saved builds to appear unchanged |
| Beta gameplay progression | Resets when the beta ends | Separate progression rules | Cosmetic beta rewards carry into the full game |
The announcement’s phrase, “The collection you’ve built remains yours to use,” should be read in this Warzone context. It does not mean every old cosmetic, weapon system, or loadout works identically in every Modern Warfare 4 mode.

What carries forward to Warzone
Operators and Operator Skins
Operators from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 remain available in Warzone. The same applies to their Operator Skins. This is a retention rule for the Warzone collection: it preserves access to named characters and their cosmetic variants rather than converting them into a universal Modern Warfare 4 entitlement.
If a skin is missing, first check that you are using the same linked Activision account that held the original item. Account identity is part of the entitlement record; changing the linked platform account to a different Activision account can leave earlier progression and beta bonuses behind.
Weapon Blueprints
Weapon Blueprints from those four source games remain usable in Warzone. A blueprint is not the same as a freely editable old weapon build, however. Existing legacy blueprints retain their existing attachment setups, but the prior Gunsmith and Custom Loadout systems are not supported for legacy blueprints.

In practical terms, a retained blueprint can still be selected with the configuration it brought forward, but you should not assume that you can open it and recreate the full attachment-editing workflow from its original game.

Legacy weapons
Legacy weapons remain accessible through Warzone’s Legacy tab. This gives older guns a defined place in the current Warzone armory instead of placing them in the standard current-weapon list.
Every legacy base weapon receives a five-attachment version. That is a constrained implementation, not a promise that the weapon retains every old progression level, tuning option, or saved class. Existing legacy blueprints are handled differently: their established attachment setups are preserved rather than rebuilt as open-ended Gunsmith projects.
What does not carry forward
Legacy Weapon Camos
Legacy Weapon Camos are the clearest explicit exclusion. A correction to the official carry-forward announcement states that these camos will not be available in Warzone. Do not treat a camo earned in an earlier title as retained simply because the weapon, operator, or blueprint associated with it is retained.

Old Gunsmith functionality
Legacy weapons do not retain the old Gunsmith functionality. The five-attachment version is the supported Warzone form for a legacy base weapon. You cannot infer from the number of attachments that the complete original weapon-building system is present.
Legacy blueprints likewise keep their existing attachment setups instead of restoring the original editing experience. If your playstyle depended on changing every slot, tuning a build, or switching among saved configurations, plan for a more limited setup.
Previous Custom Loadouts
Prior Custom Loadouts do not carry forward for legacy weapons or legacy blueprints. Your old saved classes should not be expected to reappear as editable loadouts in the new Warzone environment. Recreate any desired class using the options that the current Warzone interface exposes, and expect legacy items to follow the five-attachment or preserved-blueprint rules above.

Does this content transfer into Modern Warfare 4?
Not according to the carry-forward announcement. The announcement is a Warzone policy, while Modern Warfare 4 has its own Multiplayer and DMZ progression and is a separate purchase. Official materials do not promise that old Warzone Operators, skins, blueprints, weapons, camos, Gunsmith builds, or custom loadouts become native Modern Warfare 4 content.

That means two different questions must be kept separate:
- Can I still use the item in Warzone? Use the Warzone carry-forward list and the legacy-weapon limitations.
- Can I use it in Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ? There is no blanket import promise; treat those modes as having their own content and progression unless a later official announcement says otherwise.
Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, and the official site identifies it as a separate game. Buying it gives access to its own Multiplayer and DMZ content; it should not be presented as a requirement merely to preserve the retained Warzone collection. Conversely, owning an old Warzone item should not be presented as granting access to Modern Warfare 4’s paid modes.
How account linking affects your items
Online progression is stored on the linked Activision account. If a console or PC platform account is connected to a different Activision account than the one used previously, earlier progression and beta bonus access do not follow that platform account.
- Sign in to the Activision account that held your earlier Warzone or beta progress.
- Check the platform connections before launching the game on a console or PC.
- Do not unlink and relink accounts casually; moving a platform identity to a different Activision account can make prior progress unavailable on that account.
- Launch Warzone and inspect the Operators, skins, blueprints, and Legacy tab using the same account identity.
The official platform documentation says Warzone progress and content can continue to supported current-generation consoles or PC when the same linked Activision account is used. That account requirement is separate from the question of whether a particular item type is supported.

What happens to beta progression?
Gameplay progression
Modern Warfare 4 beta gameplay progression resets when the beta concludes. Weapon levels, gameplay unlocks, and similar beta progress should therefore be treated as temporary unless an official beta notice specifically labels an item as persistent.
Cosmetic beta rewards
Cosmetic rewards earned during the beta carry into the full game at launch. This is different from gameplay progression: the level or unlock path can reset while a qualifying cosmetic reward remains attached to the account.
Both outcomes depend on using the same linked Activision account. A cosmetic reward earned on a platform connected to another Activision account will not automatically appear on the account you later choose.
Common situations and the correct answer
| Reader situation | Answer |
|---|---|
| “Do my MW2 and MW3 skins carry over?” | They remain available in Warzone under the announced carry-forward policy. No equivalent promise is made for Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ. |
| “Will my Warzone camos transfer?” | Legacy Weapon Camos are explicitly excluded from Warzone carry-forward. |
| “Can I still use my old guns?” | Yes, legacy weapons are accessible in Warzone’s Legacy tab, subject to the five-attachment implementation. |
| “Do legacy weapons keep Gunsmith?” | No. The old Gunsmith functionality is not supported for legacy weapons. |
| “Will my old custom loadouts work?” | No. Prior Custom Loadouts are not supported for legacy weapons or legacy blueprints. |
| “Do my Warzone bundles carry over to MW4?” | There is no blanket bundle-transfer promise for Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ. Check each item against the Warzone carry-forward categories instead. |
| “Do I need to buy MW4 to use retained Warzone content?” | The carry-forward announcement treats Warzone access separately. Modern Warfare 4 is required for its own paid Multiplayer and DMZ content, not described as a prerequisite for the retained Warzone collection. |
A practical check before launch
- Identify the mode. If you are checking Warzone, use the carry-forward rules. If you are checking Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ, assume no old-content import unless an official notice names it.
- Identify the item type. Operators, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and legacy weapons are treated differently from Weapon Camos and Custom Loadouts.
- Verify the account. Use the same linked Activision account that held the original entitlement or beta reward.
- Open the right Warzone location. Look for legacy guns in the Legacy tab rather than the current weapon list.
- Rebuild around the limitation. Use the five-attachment legacy version or the blueprint’s preserved setup; do not wait for the old Gunsmith editor to return.
- Separate cosmetic and gameplay expectations. Beta cosmetics can persist even though beta gameplay progression resets.
Why “everything carries over” is inaccurate
Several different systems are being discussed under one phrase: account entitlements, cosmetic items, weapons, weapon configuration, saved loadouts, and mode-specific progression. The announcement preserves some categories in Warzone, excludes another category outright, and narrows the functionality of retained weapons. Modern Warfare 4 then adds a separate Multiplayer and DMZ environment.
The accurate description is therefore limited but useful: recent Operators, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and legacy weapons remain part of Warzone, with legacy weapons delivered through a restricted five-attachment system. Legacy Weapon Camos, old Gunsmith functionality, and previous Custom Loadouts do not come along, and none of this establishes automatic compatibility with Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer or DMZ.
Activision has indicated that additional Modern Warfare 4-year details may follow, so mode-specific compatibility can change only when a later official announcement says so. Until then, check the named item category, mode, and linked account rather than relying on a general “carry-forward” claim.
