There is no verified evidence that AMD formally cancelled a separate RDNA 4 gaming flagship—or proof of how fast it would have been. AMD did launch the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 in February 2025, but neither card should be treated as a confirmed replacement or renamed version of the rumored larger GPU.
What is confirmed about AMD’s RDNA 4 launch?
AMD announced the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 on February 28, 2025, as consumer graphics cards built on RDNA 4. Those released models are the dependable reference point; claims about a separate high-end design remain unconfirmed.
AMD’s official Radeon RX 9070 XT product page lists 64 compute units, 4,096 stream processors, boost frequency up to 2,970 MHz, 2,400 MHz game frequency, 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, a 256-bit memory interface, 64 MB of Infinity Cache, and 304 W typical board power. AMD recommends a 750 W minimum power supply. The card supports DisplayPort 2.1a, HDMI 2.1b, and PCIe 5.0 x16. These specifications apply to the shipping RX 9070 XT only.
At launch, AMD listed suggested U.S. prices of $599 for the RX 9070 XT and $549 for the RX 9070, with partner-card availability expected from March 6, 2025. Those are launch-era figures, not a statement of current retail prices or stock. AMD’s February 28, 2025 investor-relations release provides the launch context.

Was a separate flagship cancelled?
The material available does not establish a formal AMD cancellation announcement, a final specification sheet, or independently verifiable performance results for a separate RDNA 4 gaming flagship. Secondary reporting has associated the rumor with names such as “RX 8900 XTX” and “Navi 4C,” but those names and the alleged cancellation should be treated as claims in that reporting, not confirmed AMD product details.
That distinction matters: an unannounced or rumored design may have been considered, changed, or dropped, but without an attributable confirmation the public record does not establish which of those happened. Nor can a performance description such as “beast” be verified without a final product and reproducible benchmark results.

Is the RX 9070 XT the cancelled flagship?
There is no evidence here that the RX 9070 XT is a renamed or confirmed version of the alleged larger GPU. It is a released 16 GB card with published specifications. Its existence does not resolve whether AMD separately explored a higher-end RDNA 4 gaming design.
In February 2025, TechSpot reported that AMD gaming architect and marketing lead Frank Azor rejected a 32 GB configuration for the RX 9070 XT, quoting him: “No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity.” (TechSpot’s report.) That statement addresses the RX 9070 XT’s memory capacity; it neither confirms nor rules out every possible separate RDNA 4 product.

What do AMD’s performance claims actually show?
AMD said its performance-lab testing found the RX 9070 XT delivered over 40% more average gaming performance than the RX 7900 GRE at 1440p. This is a vendor-reported comparison, not an independent review result, and it is not a benchmark of the rumored flagship. AMD also claimed RDNA 4 offers more than twice the previous generation’s ray-tracing throughput per compute unit; that is an architecture-level claim, not a measured result for a cancelled card.
Gaming performance depends on the game, graphics settings, resolution, system configuration, and driver. AMD’s figures should be read with their stated comparison and test context, rather than generalized to every game or product.

How to judge claims about the rumored GPU
Until a distinct card is confirmed and tested, comparisons with released GPUs cannot establish how it would have performed. For real products, compare results from the same games, settings, and test conditions, and separate independent reviews from manufacturer testing.
