Warhorse Studios, the Czech developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, confirmed on October 27, 2026 that attackers gained unauthorized access to company systems and corporate data. CEO Martin Frývaldský called it “a serious incident for Warhorse Studios and for everyone affected.” The studio has not said what attack method was used, whether ransomware or extortion was involved, which files or systems were accessed, whether personal information was exposed, who was responsible, or whether development was disrupted.

That means the incident is confirmed, but reports of a data leak, ransom demand, named hacker group, delayed game or cancellation would go beyond the information publicly established so far.

What exactly did Warhorse confirm?

Warhorse confirmed unauthorized access to its company systems and corporate data. The statement establishes an intrusion, but it does not provide a technical incident report or an inventory of affected information.

The public wording comes from CEO Martin Frývaldský: “This is a serious incident for Warhorse Studios and for everyone affected.” No published figure identifies the number of records, files, systems, employees, downtime hours, ransom amount or financial loss.

What remains unconfirmed

  • The initial access route, such as stolen credentials, a software vulnerability or a compromised supplier.
  • Whether the attackers encrypted systems, demanded money or used another form of extortion.
  • Whether files were copied or published, and whether any personal or player information was involved.
  • The identity or location of the attackers.
  • Any effect on game production, internal operations or release schedules.

Was this a data breach or ransomware attack?

Those labels cannot yet be applied with confidence. “Unauthorized access to systems and corporate data” describes what Warhorse has confirmed; it does not by itself prove that data was exfiltrated, that a ransom was demanded or that files were encrypted.

A data breach generally refers to unauthorized access to protected information, while ransomware usually involves encryption, extortion or both. Warhorse has not publicly identified the affected data or described the attackers’ actions in those terms. Until the studio provides that detail, headlines presenting a confirmed leak or ransomware event would be speculative.

Could the attack delay the new Lord of the Rings or Kingdom Come game?

There is no public production-impact update. Warhorse has not announced a delay, cancellation or change to either project, but it also has not said that development is unaffected.

The studio announced two major projects on May 20, 2026: an open-world Middle-earth role-playing game and a new Kingdom Come adventure. Those announcements included no release dates, so there is no published launch schedule against which to measure a delay. Any claim that the cyberattack has stopped or postponed either game would require a later statement from Warhorse or its owner.

What is the confirmed timeline?

The surrounding project news helps explain why the incident is drawing attention, but earlier reports do not establish a connection between the projects and the intrusion.

Date Confirmed development
March 31, 2026 Insider Gaming described Warhorse’s possible connection to a new Lord of the Rings game as an industry claim and explicitly treated it as speculation.
May 20, 2026 Warhorse publicly announced an open-world Middle-earth RPG and a new Kingdom Come adventure, saying it would share more when the time was right.
May 20, 2026 Reuters reported that Embracer-owned Warhorse was developing both projects.
October 27, 2026 Warhorse reported unauthorized access to company systems and corporate data.

Reuters also reported that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II sold more than 5 million copies in its first year, citing Embracer’s third-quarter report. That sales figure is business context, not an indication that the game or its players were affected by the intrusion.

Does the confirmation mean player accounts or game files were exposed?

No. The phrase “corporate data” is broad and does not identify player-account databases, development repositories, employee records or any other particular system. Warhorse has not publicly confirmed that player information or game files were accessed.

Players should be cautious with messages claiming to contain stolen Warhorse data. Do not open purported leak files or enter credentials through links shared in social posts; rely on a verified Warhorse announcement for any instructions about accounts or services.

What should readers watch for next?

The next useful update would need to add scope or operational information rather than simply repeat that an intrusion occurred. Readers should look for:

  • A technical description of the entry point and the systems involved.
  • Confirmation of whether information was copied, encrypted or published.
  • Specific advice for employees, customers or players if personal data is affected.
  • A statement on development status, service availability or release plans.
  • Any notification from regulators or law-enforcement agencies, if applicable.

Until those details appear, the defensible conclusion is limited: Warhorse experienced unauthorized access, and the consequences are still being determined or have not been disclosed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does “corporate data” automatically mean personal information was stolen?

No. Corporate data can include internal documents, business records, technical material or other information that is not personal data. Warhorse has not identified the categories involved, so exposure of personal information remains unconfirmed.

Are Warhorse player accounts known to be compromised?

There is no public confirmation that player-account systems were accessed. The incident statement refers generally to company systems and corporate data, without naming an account platform or customer database.

Has Warhorse given a date for its next incident update?

No timetable for a fuller disclosure has been announced in the available statement. A verified update from Warhorse is the appropriate source for scope, user guidance and any production news.

Why was the Lord of the Rings project considered speculation before the announcement?

A March 2026 industry report described the connection as a claim rather than confirmed information. Warhorse’s May 20 announcement later established that it was making an open-world Middle-earth RPG.
