Choose Standard if you want the base game without the paid add-ons. Choose Commander Edition if its three-day early unlock, Blood Ravens Story Prologue, AFTERMATH campaign expansion and new faction, and digital soundtrack are worth the extra cost to you. Both editions currently show a 10% preorder discount on the official game page. Regional prices vary, so compare the live Steam prices in your currency before deciding.

What is included in each Dawn of War IV edition?

Edition Included content Preorder offer shown Best fit
Standard Base game 10% preorder discount Players who want the main game and do not value the paid add-ons, early unlock, or soundtrack enough to upgrade.
Commander Base game; Blood Ravens Story Prologue; AFTERMATH campaign expansion with a new faction; digital soundtrack Three-day early unlock and 10% preorder discount Players who want the announced paid content and soundtrack, or value starting early.

The publisher’s current Dawn of War IV page lists the Commander extras. It does not establish the exact price difference for every region. The official support FAQ directs buyers to Steam for their local-currency price, so check the two live listings in your region rather than relying on a price quoted elsewhere.

Is Commander Edition worth buying?

Commander is the more complete announced package, but whether it is worth the premium depends on how much you value the included extras. The clearest comparison is between what you would actually use and the difference Steam shows for your region.

  • Pick Standard if the base game is your priority and the prologue, expansion, soundtrack, and earlier access do not justify the price increase.
  • Pick Commander if you plan to play the paid story content, want the soundtrack, or consider the November 30 early unlock valuable.

The game is announced for Windows PC on Steam, not as a console-edition comparison. Its publisher describes four distinct factions and campaign, multiplayer, Last Stand, and Skirmish modes. The current official page advertises 70+ campaign missions; PLAION estimates a campaign of 20+ hours, while noting completion time varies with player style and technical ability. Those are publisher descriptions and estimates, not guaranteed playtime.

Does Commander include all Dawn of War IV DLC?

No. Commander includes the announced Blood Ravens Story Prologue and AFTERMATH campaign expansion, but the available official information does not say that it includes all future paid DLC. AFTERMATH is described as adding a faction and a further campaign. Treat the edition as a bundle of its listed items, not a promise of every future release.

Also distinguish those paid packages from the announced free Year One roadmap. Warhammer Community says planned free updates for all players include Crusade mode, two new Commanders for Last Stand and Crusade, four Skirmish map packs, and a Mission Editor. These are announced plans, not Commander-exclusive benefits. See the Skulls 2026 announcement for the roadmap description.

When can you play Dawn of War IV?

As of October 4, 2026, the current Deep Silver game page lists the general launch as December 3, 2026 and the Commander three-day early unlock as beginning November 30, 2026. The publisher’s page is the most current source for these terms.

Some older official material still gives a September 17, 2026 launch and September 14 early access, and a PLAION support FAQ uses the older name “Ultimate Edition.” Those dates and terminology conflict with the current game page; for the present buying decision, use December 3 and Commander Edition, and recheck the listing near purchase in case terms change.

Where to check price and availability

Dawn of War IV is announced for Steam on Windows PC. The official support FAQ says to check Steam for the price in your local currency. Because the regional price difference and preorder offer can change, compare both edition listings directly before checkout; the current publisher page shows a 10% preorder discount for each edition.

The publisher also lists full English audio and interface/subtitle support for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Polish, Korean, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese. The PLAION support FAQ estimates the campaign at 20+ hours, with duration varying by player style and technical ability.
