As of October 29, 2026, Voxel Playground does not currently list multiplayer or co-op support. The Meta Quest store classifies it as “Single User,” and the Steam listing marks it “Single-player.” You can play the physics sandbox, zombie survival, crafting, building and modding features alone, but there is no published evidence that friends can enter the same world today. UploadVR reported on October 27, 2026, that the developer planned a multiplayer update for a Christmas 2026 update. That is a roadmap statement, not confirmation that multiplayer has shipped. Treat the current release as a solo game and recheck the store listing or update notes before buying specifically for cooperative play.

What does Voxel Playground support right now?

The currently listed release is solo on both advertised platforms. Meta’s store page says “Supported player modes: Single User,” while Steam lists “Single-player” among the game’s features. Neither listing advertises online multiplayer, online co-op, local co-op, split-screen play or a party/session system.

Platform Current player-mode label Play format Supported hardware or mode
Meta Quest Single User Solo VR Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro
Steam Single-player Solo VR or non-VR VR headsets or a standard non-VR PC setup

Those labels describe the versions available when the listings were checked. They do not leave room for a currently documented friend-invite feature, shared world or cooperative survival mode. A community can still discuss the game, exchange clips or create mods without the game allowing two players into one session.

Can you play Voxel Playground with friends?

Not in the same playable session according to the current store information. You can show friends destruction clips, talk about builds, or share creations through community channels, but that is different from inviting another player into your sandbox.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The official site uses the sentence “Join other players, share destruction clips, and help shape what gets built next.” In context, that is community language. It encourages participation around the game and its development; it does not document a networked mode, a shared save, or a way for another person to appear in your world.

There is also no published session-size, player-count or co-op-capacity figure to use as a workaround. Do not assume that two copies of the game, two headsets, or a Steam and Quest account can connect simply because the title is under active development.

Is the zombie survival mode cooperative?

No cooperative survival mode is currently listed. Voxel Playground’s survival activities are presented as solo play, even though they include systems that would make a future co-op mode appealing.

Solo physics sandbox

The core experience is a destructible micro-voxel physics playground from Cydream. Buildings, vehicles, weapons, enemies and other objects react physically, so the main loop is experimentation: construct something, test how it behaves, and destroy or rebuild it.

Zombie waves

The game includes survival against zombie waves. The available description does not say that another player can join those waves, revive a teammate or share the same defensive base. Until a published update says otherwise, treat the mode as single-player survival.

Crafting and base building

Crafting and base-building elements give the solo game longer-term objectives. They should not be read as evidence of shared bases, cooperative resource storage or a persistent multiplayer world; those functions are not documented in the current listings.

Modding

Cydream provides modding documentation, which can expand what one player builds or experiments with. Mod support is not the same as multiplayer networking. A mod can change content without adding account matchmaking, synchronization or a safe way to host another player.

Is multiplayer coming to Voxel Playground?

A multiplayer update has been reported as planned, but it was not confirmed as released by October 29, 2026. UploadVR reported on October 27 that the developer was targeting multiplayer for the game’s “Christmas update” later in 2026.

That wording matters. A target is a development plan, not a guaranteed delivery date, and it does not establish which multiplayer features will be included. The report does not provide a confirmed player count, cross-platform support, local-play option, matchmaking design or final release build.

The safest expectation is therefore conditional: multiplayer may arrive in a late-2026 update, but the current version remains solo until an update is actually available and the store descriptions change. If cooperative play is the reason you are considering the game, wait for release notes or an updated platform listing rather than purchasing on the promise of a roadmap item.

Should you buy now or wait for multiplayer?

Choose based on whether solo physics experimentation is enough for you today. The following trade-offs reflect the currently documented availability, not a performance test or a prediction of the eventual update.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Decision Best fit What you get Main risk
Play now You want a solo sandbox or survival game Destruction, physics experiments, zombie waves, crafting, base building and modding No confirmed shared session or co-op
Wait You are buying specifically to play with friends Time to see whether the planned update ships and what it includes The Christmas 2026 target could change, and feature scope is not yet specified

Playing now makes sense if …

  • You are happy to build, destroy and experiment alone.
  • You want a VR playground on Quest or a VR/non-VR sandbox on Steam.
  • Zombie survival, crafting and base building are appealing without a teammate.
  • You understand that the multiplayer plan is future-facing rather than included today.

Waiting makes sense if …

  • Your main requirement is inviting friends into the same world.
  • You need cooperative zombie defense, shared construction or team progression.
  • You require a confirmed player count, cross-play or a specific multiplayer platform before buying.
  • You cannot justify a purchase based on a feature that is only targeted for a later update.

Does the Quest version have online co-op?

The Quest listing does not show online co-op; it shows “Single User.” That applies to the Quest versions listed for Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro. Nothing in the current listing indicates that one of those headsets receives a multiplayer mode unavailable on the others.

A Meta Quest 3 headset is compatible hardware for the Quest edition, but the headset itself does not add networking. Buying a newer headset can provide access to the Quest version if you do not already own compatible hardware; it cannot turn a single-user listing into a cooperative game.

Quest is a VR-only platform for this title. If you want to play without a headset, the Steam edition is the relevant route, although it is also currently classified as single-player.

Does the Steam version support multiplayer or non-VR co-op?

Steam supports both VR and non-VR play for Voxel Playground, but its feature list still says “Single-player.” The non-VR option changes how you control the sandbox; it does not document LAN play, online matchmaking, split-screen or a shared-session mode.

There is also no published indication that Steam and Quest players can connect to one another. Cross-play should be considered unavailable unless a future announcement specifically names it. Platform flexibility and multiplayer support are separate features.

How can you verify multiplayer status before buying or updating?

Because the game is in active development, check the live listing and update notes immediately before purchase. Use this sequence:

  1. Open the store page for your platform. On Quest, inspect “Supported player modes.” On Steam, inspect the feature list and the latest announcements.
  2. Look for explicit wording. Terms such as “multiplayer,” “online co-op,” “local co-op,” “cross-play,” a player-count range or an invite/session feature are stronger evidence than community phrases about joining other players.
  3. Check the version date and update notes. Confirm that multiplayer is described as available in the installed build, not merely planned for a future update.
  4. Confirm platform coverage. If an announcement names only Steam or only Quest, do not assume the other edition received the same feature.
  5. Look for limitations. A first multiplayer release may exclude cross-play, non-VR users, modded worlds or particular Quest hardware. Buy only when the restrictions fit your group.

This process is especially important around the reported Christmas 2026 target, when store text may change at different times and a roadmap announcement could precede the actual release.

What is still unknown about the planned mode?

Several practical questions remain unanswered in the available information. No reliable source establishes:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • How many players a session will support.
  • Whether multiplayer will be online, local, or both.
  • Whether Quest and Steam players will share servers through cross-play.
  • Whether VR and non-VR players can join the same Steam session.
  • Whether cooperative survival, shared building and progression will launch together.
  • Whether mods will work in multiplayer or be restricted to solo worlds.
  • Whether the Christmas 2026 target will be met or moved.

These are not minor details. A game can add a limited experimental multiplayer mode without delivering the persistent co-op survival experience a buyer expected. Until Cydream publishes those specifications, describe the feature as planned rather than promised.

What does the current solo game offer?

For players who do not need co-op, Voxel Playground is built around physical interaction. The micro-voxel destruction system lets structures break apart, while vehicles, weapons and enemies respond to the surrounding environment. That makes the sandbox suitable for testing elaborate constructions, staging destruction scenarios or learning how the physics systems interact.

Survival adds pressure through zombie waves, and crafting and base building provide reasons to organize resources and reinforce a location. The modding documentation gives technically inclined players a way to extend experiments beyond the stock content. None of these features requires a network connection to another player, so they remain the dependable reasons to play the currently listed release.

Steam’s non-VR support also broadens access for people who do not own a headset. Quest buyers get a VR-focused version across the supported Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro hardware. In both cases, the documented experience is solo.

What is the bottom line for a co-op buyer?

Do not buy Voxel Playground today expecting multiplayer or cooperative survival. The Meta Quest and Steam listings both describe solo play, and no current evidence confirms that friends can share a world. The developer has reportedly targeted multiplayer for a Christmas 2026 update, so interested players should monitor the official listing and release notes; until that update is shipped and its limits are clear, evaluate the game as a single-player physics sandbox.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can two people play Voxel Playground on one Quest headset?

The current Quest listing identifies the game as “Single User,” and no local or pass-the-headset mode is documented. Two people would need separate supported hardware only if a future update adds a networked mode; owning two headsets does not create co-op in the current release.

Does Voxel Playground require VR on Steam?

No. The Steam listing says the game can be played in VR or without VR. That input choice affects presentation and controls, not the current single-player status.

How popular is Voxel Playground on Quest?

The Meta listing showed a 4.8/5 rating from approximately 5,000 ratings in 2026. Ratings describe player satisfaction at that snapshot and do not indicate multiplayer availability or the size of any future online community.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will Quest 2 support the planned multiplayer update?

Quest 2 is listed as supported hardware for the current game, but no published announcement specifies which headsets will receive the planned multiplayer feature. Check the update notes for the final compatibility list instead of assuming every current device will be included.
