Do I need to play Until Dawn to enjoy Until Dawn 2?
No. PlayStation presents the sequel as a standalone experience. You can follow Dead True’s investigation without having completed the 2015 game or the 2024 rebuilt release.
Standalone does not mean disconnected. The new story revisits Blackwood Sanatorium and earlier tragic events, and Dr. Hill is identified as the only returning character. That creates continuity of setting and mythology without confirming that the sequel follows one particular player’s ending or survivor list.

Those eight names describe the story cast, not a multiplayer roster or a promise that all eight are playable at every point. Firesprite’s descriptions emphasize relationships and branching consequences, so the condition of individual characters can change as decisions accumulate.
What is the story of Until Dawn 2?
Dead True produces paranormal content by staging investigations. The setup changes when the group encounters real danger, turning a controlled production into a survival story. The later announcement places the crew at Blackwood Sanatorium before its journey to Akishima Island, an abandoned tropical location central to the sequel.

Remote Play does not change that classification. It lets one player access the PS5 game remotely; the Remote Play label is not an indication that two people can join the session as co-op players. Friends can still watch, discuss clues, and agree on choices informally, but that is social viewing rather than a supported multiplayer feature.

Will my Until Dawn save, choices, or ending carry over?
There is no confirmed cross-game save import. The official sequel FAQ and Firesprite announcements inspected for this launch do not say whether Until Dawn 2 will read an original game’s save, the 2024 rebuilt game’s save, a survivor list, or a chosen ending. The accurate status is unannounced, not a definitive statement that import will be impossible.
Keep two separate questions in mind:
- Can an existing save be moved to a PS5? PlayStation documents console-to-console transfer for eligible PS4 and PS5 saved data, along with other methods for moving PS4 saves.
- Can Until Dawn 2 interpret that file? No official material confirms that it can. A save transferred successfully between consoles is still not evidence that another game will recognize its decisions.
If you are changing consoles, use PlayStation’s normal saved-data transfer process and retain your original files. Do not buy storage or alter a save on the assumption that those steps will create sequel compatibility; only a future developer or PlayStation announcement can establish an import feature. Until such an announcement appears, plan to begin Until Dawn 2 with its own new-game state.
Which editions of Until Dawn 2 are announced?

Firesprite says physical or digital preorders can receive Dr. Hill costumes and collectible in-game bobbleheads. Those bobbleheads are digital items in the game, not merchandise that has been confirmed to ship in the box. Check the offer’s regional conditions and cutoff date before paying, because preorder bonuses can vary by storefront.
How does the sequel differ from the 2024 rebuilt Until Dawn?
The names are similar, but the products serve different purposes. The rebuilt release revisits the original story, whereas Until Dawn 2 is a new PS5-only-announced adventure.
