UN75NU6900FXZA: At First Glance

Over the years, Samsung has been known for delivering different types of televisions with great picture quality. In order to continue with this great tradition, Samsung released the UN75NU6900FXZA in 2018.

This television, like most Samsung mid-range televisions, offers a sleek design and countless features to convince buyers. Some of these features include a 4K display, fast response time, and the Tizen OS.

Nevertheless, this Samsung TV, like other televisions out there, comes with some certain drawbacks. Do you wish to know more about these drawbacks and the television in general?

Well, you have to continue reading!

UN75NU6900FXZA: Design, Dimension, and Weight

As mentioned in the “my initial thought” section, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA comes with a sleek design. To give more details, this television features thin bezels that surround its display screen.

Moreover, these bezels measure 0.55-inch and are made up of plastic with a glossy finish. In addition to that, there is a “SAMSUNG” logo just at the center of the bottom bezel.

Moving on to the back, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA comes with a plain plastic panel. This back panel has a black finish and a set of narrow cuts that serves as a cable management system.

Furthermore, there are holes on this television’s back panel that can accommodate a 400 X 400 VESA mount for wall-mounting the TV. Besides, since the back of this TV is thin, the television shouldn’t bulge out of the wall if wall-mounted.

In case you don’t like mounting TVs on the wall, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA comes with a pair of legs. These legs have a black finish and are composed of plastic.

However, the legs are set very close to the edges of the television. Thus, you will require a fairly large table to place the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA on.

To make things worse, these legs are very short. As a result, there won’t be enough space underneath the TV to place a soundbar or external speaker.

On a bright note, the television’s legs are very sturdy despite being made of plastic. Thus, the legs should be able to support the TV very well without wobbling.

When it comes to the dimensions and weight, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA measures 1684 x 60.9 x 965.2 mm (W x D x H). In addition to that, this Samsung television weighs a massive 37013.1 g.

Compared to most 75-inch televisions out there, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA is quite heavy. For example, the TCL 75S425 measures 1678 x 88.9 x 965.2 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 33520.4 g.

In conclusion, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA offers a decent design and a pair of sturdy legs. Moreover, this television comes with a cable management system that most televisions lack.

Therefore, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA deserves nothing less than a nine out of ten rating in this design review section.

UN75NU6900FXZA: Display Features and Picture Quality

Samsung is one of the best brands when it comes to delivering TVs with great picture quality. Thankfully, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA isn’t an exception.

To start with, this Samsung television comes with a 75-inch LED display. Furthermore, this television’s display features a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.

With its 4K resolution, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s display should be capable of producing sharp and realistic pictures. To add to that, a display with a 4K resolution has four times the number of pixels as a typical HD display.

In other words, a 4K display delivers picture quality and accuracy 4x better than an HD display. Aside from featuring a 4K resolution, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s display also has an outstanding contrast ratio.

Specifically, this TV’s display comes with a contrast ratio of 6107:1. For clarity, contrast ratio refers to the difference between the brightest whites and the darkest blacks that a display can produce.

Moreover, this display’s impressive contrast ratio is due to the fact that the display is made with a VA panel. Well, the result of its impressive contrast ratio is that the display will be able to produce deep blacks.

Hence, movies that have plenty of dark scenes will be a joy to watch on the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA. In addition to that, the television will be very suitable for dark room viewing.

Sadly, this TV’s display doesn’t support local dimming. In case you’re curious, local dimming is a process that boosts the contrast ratio of LED/LCD displays by dimming backlight zones.

Thus, with local dimming, the blacks rendered by the display will appear darker than they would without it. Unfortunately, as said earlier, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s display doesn’t support local dimming.

To make up for not supporting local dimming, this television’s display supports various HDR effects including HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. Just to be clear, HDR stands for High Dynamic Range.

Furthermore, it is a picture technology that improves a display’s brightness, range of colors, and contrast. Basically, when watching HDR-supported content, the picture quality of the display will be very realistic and lifelike.

For the record, streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video and Netflix are where you can find HDR-supported content. However, despite supporting HDR, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s display offers average brightness.

To be more specific, this TV’s display features a peak brightness of 270 nits. Thus, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA may not be suitable for watching movies in a well-lit or bright room.

However, this display’s peak brightness is enough for you to enjoy viewing the television in a moderately-lit room.

As stated earlier, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s display is made with a VA (Vertical Alignment) panel. A major flaw of a VA panel display is that it usually offers bad viewing angles.

Well, as excepted, that’s exactly what the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s display offer – poor viewing angles. As a result, image quality and color accuracy will tend to reduce when viewing this television off-center.

On a positive note, this television’s display has a low input lag of 22.8 milliseconds. For clarity, input lag refers to the time a display takes to register signal inputs.

Thus, with such a low display input lag, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA is ideal for casual gaming. However, highly competitive gamers might find an input lag of 22.8 milliseconds not “low” enough.

That said, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s display offers a fast response time of 16.2 milliseconds. As a result, this Samsung TV is good for viewing fast-motion content like action movies or sports.

Basically, when viewing fast-motion content on the TV, there will be minimal blur trails. For context, response time refers to the time a display takes to change from one color to another.

In conclusion, apart from its poor viewing angles, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA offers a decent display performance. Thus, I will rate the TV an eight out of ten in this display review section.

UN75NU6900FXZA: Sound Features

For the sound, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA features a pair of 20-watt speakers that produce a reasonable sound quality. Furthermore, these speakers are loud enough to fill a large room with sound.

Sadly, this Samsung television lacks a subwoofer. Therefore, it won’t be able to produce enough bass.

As a result, viewing movies with heavy bass on this Samsung television may not be the best thing to do. However, to compensate for its lack of a subwoofer, this television features a sound technology called Dolby Digital Plus.

With this sound technology, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA will be able to deliver cinema-style audio quality. However, despite the Dolby Digital Plus, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA offers an average distortion performance.

This was confirmed through the television’s Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) test result. Briefly, THD is a test that evaluates the level of distortion that a sound device can produce.

In addition to that, a score of 1% or less on this test means that the sound device produces minimal distortion. Regrettably, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA scored a little bit above 1%.

To be more specific, this television scored 1.1% on the THD test. Hence, the television will produce a significant amount of distortion at the maximum volume level.

However, at a moderate volume level, the distortion that the television produces will be minimal.

That said, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s speakers are capable of producing loud and clear dialogue. For clarity, dialogue is the conversation between several characters in a movie or a TV show.

To conclude this sound review section, I will rate the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA a seven out of ten.

UN75NU6900FXZA Port and Connectivity Features

For the ports, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA comes with a poor number of ports. To give more details, this television features only two HDMI ports, one of which supports ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Thus, the ARC-HDMI port should allow you to connect a soundbar or an external speaker to the TV. In addition to its HDMI ports, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA features one USB port, an RF connector, digital optical audio out, and an Ethernet port.

That’s all that you get concerning the ports on this television. Disappointing right?

What’s more disappointing is the fact that the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA doesn’t come with Bluetooth. However, the television features a built-in 802.11 Wi-Fi for wireless internet connectivity.

Moving on, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA comes with a basic TM1240A remote control. Design-wise, this remote control is made of plastic and has a matte-black texture.

Furthermore, the remote is medium in size and includes quite a number of rubber buttons. Speaking of buttons, this remote control comes with a full number pad.

Apart from that, there is a plus-shaped navigation button a bit below the center of the remote. However, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA’s remote control doesn’t have any dedicated button for quick access to streaming apps.

In addition to its lack of dedicated buttons, this remote doesn’t feature an in-built microphone. Therefore, the remote doesn’t support voice input.

However, like other Samsung remote controls, this television’s remote features a “SAMSUNG” logo at the bottom part.

To sum it all up, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA has a poor amount of ports that would barely meet users’ connectivity demands. Moreover, this television lacks Bluetooth and features a basic remote control.

As a result, I will be rating the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA a seven out of ten in this ports and connectivity review section.

UN75NU6900FXZA: Smart Features

As one would expect from a Samsung smart television, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA makes use of the Tizen operating system. This OS offers a simple and straightforward interface that is easy to navigate.

Furthermore, the Tizen OS has plenty of popular streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video. Moreover, in case you desire more streaming apps, you can easily download them via the Samsung Store.

Besides, you can also share/cast content from your smartphones, PC, and tablets to the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA with the help of the SmartThings app. Asides from sharing content, you can also use this SmartThings app to control the television.

Impressively, the SmartThing app is available on both the Google Play Store and the App Store.

That said, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice input. However, neither the television nor the remote control has a built-in microphone.

Therefore, to use the voice input feature, you have to buy a Google Nest speaker or an Amazon Echo.

In summary, the Samsung UN75NU6900FXZA has a smooth operating system that offers lots of streaming services like Netflix. Thus, I will be rating the TV a nine out of ten in this smart review section.
