Ultra Mobile PayGo is a real prepaid cellular plan costing $3 per 30-day cycle before taxes and fees. It includes 100 domestic minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB of 5G/4G LTE data, then charges for additional use. PayGo suits emergency, backup, and Wi-Fi-first lines—not ordinary smartphone users who regularly need mobile data.

Ultra Mobile’s name can make PayGo sound like traditional pay-as-you-go service, where you pay only when you use the phone. PayGo works differently: the Wallet pays a recurring $3 renewal every 30 days, and metered charges apply after the included allowances are exhausted.

This information is for U.S. service and was checked against Ultra’s published materials on August 16–18, 2026. Prices, availability, taxes, fees, activation procedures, and plan rules can change.

Key takeaways

  • Ultra Mobile PayGo costs $3 per 30-day cycle before taxes and fees and includes 100 minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB of data.
  • Published overage rates are 3 cents per minute, 1 cent per text, and 3 cents per megabyte of data.
  • Unused included allowances do not roll over; minutes and texts expire at the end of each 30-day cycle.
  • PayGo uses a Wallet for renewals, overages, roaming charges, and eligible add-ons, with a maximum balance of $150.
  • PayGo is a strong candidate for extremely light cellular use, but a conventional prepaid plan is usually more predictable for regular smartphone data.

What is Ultra Mobile PayGo?

Ultra Mobile PayGo is a prepaid cellular plan with a small recurring allowance and usage-based charges after the allowance runs out. The plan has a fixed $3 charge at the end of each 30-day service cycle, rather than charging only on days when you make a call or send a message.

The plan includes domestic talk, SMS/MMS messaging, and a small amount of 5G/4G LTE data. Additional usage is deducted from the PayGo Wallet at published per-unit rates. Ultra also offers temporary voice, text, and data passes for customers who need more capacity during a short period.

Ultra’s official PayGo page lists the current allowances, pricing, Wallet rules, passes, activation guidance, and purchasing options. The $3 price is an advertised base price; taxes and fees are additional.

What does Ultra Mobile PayGo include for $3?

The $3 base plan includes 100 domestic minutes, 100 messages, and 100MB of data for one 30-day cycle. The plan does not include unlimited talk, unlimited text, or a large monthly data bucket.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Feature PayGo allowance or rule
Base price $3 per 30-day cycle, before taxes and fees
Domestic talk 100 minutes
Domestic messaging 100 SMS/MMS messages
High-speed mobile data 100MB of 5G/4G LTE data
Hotspot Supported, but uses the included or purchased data
Domestic roaming Supported where applicable; charges use Wallet funds
Credit check None
Deposit None
Allowance rollover No; included allowances are cycle-based

The included data is especially restrictive for smartphones. App updates, cloud synchronization, photo backups, navigation, social-media feeds, email attachments, and video autoplay can consume 100MB quickly. Hotspot is technically included, but 100MB is not a practical allowance for routine laptop use or video calls.

How much do PayGo overages cost?

After the included allowances are used, Ultra lists overage rates of $0.03 per minute, $0.01 per text, and $0.03 per megabyte of data. These charges come from the Wallet and can make mobile data expensive much faster than the $3 starting price suggests.

Usage after included allowance Published rate Illustrative charge
Additional talk $0.03 per minute 100 extra minutes = $3
Additional text $0.01 per message 100 extra texts = $1
Additional data $0.03 per MB 100 extra MB = $3
Additional data $0.03 per MB 1,000MB = approximately $30

Using 1,024MB as a gigabyte, 1GB at $0.03 per MB would calculate to $30.72. Using Ultra’s nominal 1,000MB convention produces $30. These are rate-based illustrations, not guaranteed final bills; taxes, fees, billing conventions, and rounding can affect the total. Ultra’s published PayGo rates should be checked before relying on a specific calculation.

For example, 150 minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB of data would be the $3 base charge plus $1.50 for 50 extra minutes, before taxes and fees. A month with 100 minutes, 300 texts, and 100MB of data would be the $3 base charge plus $2 for 200 extra texts, again before taxes and fees.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do PayGo minutes, texts, and data roll over?

No. PayGo allowances do not roll over into the next service cycle. Ultra states that unused minutes and text messages expire when the monthly plan cycle ends. The plan uses 30-day cycles rather than calendar months, so renewal dates can move relative to the first or last day of a calendar month.

The included 100MB should also be treated as a cycle-based allowance, not as a balance that accumulates indefinitely. Customers can text BAL to 6700 or log in to their Ultra account to check the plan expiration date and account status.

How does the PayGo Wallet work?

The PayGo Wallet is the stored account balance that pays for the $3 renewal, metered usage, certain roaming charges, international calls, and eligible add-ons. Customers can add money online with a debit or credit card, through participating retailers, or with PayGo-specific recharge cards.

  • The Wallet maximum is $150.
  • The $3 recurring renewal is deducted at the end of each 30-day cycle.
  • Extra domestic talk, text, and data use draws down the Wallet.
  • Domestic roaming and international roaming charges can also use Wallet funds.
  • International calls and some passes may require Wallet funding.

Do not assume that an ordinary Ultra recharge card works for PayGo. Ultra directs PayGo customers to use PayGo-specific cards or the online account system. The PayGo account and funding instructions are the safest reference because retailer participation and recharge availability can change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What happens if the Wallet cannot pay the $3 renewal?

If the Wallet contains less than $3 at the end of the 30-day cycle, the account is suspended rather than immediately cancelled. Ultra’s terms describe a limited recovery period, so a missed renewal does not mean the number is instantly lost—but a dormant account should not be treated as permanently safe.

  1. The Wallet falls below $3 at renewal, and the account enters suspension.
  2. The account can remain suspended for up to 60 days while the customer adds enough money.
  3. Ultra may provide an additional 30-day extension if the balance is between $0 and $3.
  4. If the required minimum is still not met, Ultra can cancel the account.
  5. After cancellation, the terms provide that the remaining balance may be forfeited.

If the balance is $0 after the initial 60-day suspension, the additional extension may not apply. Passes also do not solve a suspension problem: Ultra states that Data Passes and Voice & Text Passes work only on active accounts, not suspended or cancelled accounts. Read the current Ultra Mobile terms and conditions for the exact account-status rules before using PayGo to preserve an important number.

For long-term number retention, keep enough Wallet credit for renewal, set a recurring reminder, monitor account notifications if available, and do not wait until the final suspension period to restore service.

How do you activate Ultra Mobile PayGo?

Existing-number customers activate through Ultra’s PayGo activation page, while customers requesting a new number can use the activation page or text a ZIP-code command to 6700. You need a compatible, unlocked phone and the correct SIM or supported eSIM arrangement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To keep an existing number

  1. Insert the PayGo SIM, or prepare the supported eSIM.
  2. Open the Ultra Mobile PayGo activation page.
  3. Choose the number-transfer option and follow the prompts.
  4. Have the current carrier’s account number, transfer PIN or port-out PIN, and billing ZIP code available.
  5. Keep the old carrier account active until the port completes.

Porting is available but is not guaranteed for every number. Incorrect account details, an incorrect transfer PIN, a mismatched billing ZIP code, or a cancelled old account can cause a port to fail.

To receive a new number

  1. Insert the PayGo SIM.
  2. Text GOGO [ZIP code] to 6700, or use the activation page.
  3. Follow the prompts to select and activate the new number.

Ultra’s general activation guidance covers additional porting and setup requirements. Ultra lists customer support at 888-777-0446, or 611 from an Ultra phone.

What phones work with PayGo?

A PayGo phone must be unlocked, compatible with Ultra’s network, and capable of 4G VoLTE or 5G service. An unlocked label by itself is not enough.

  • Older 3G-only phones are not suitable.
  • Imported phones may lack required LTE bands.
  • A phone can support mobile data but lack compatible VoLTE calling.
  • Carrier restrictions can prevent activation even when the hardware appears compatible.
  • SIM type, eSIM eligibility, device provisioning, and network bands all matter.

Check compatibility before purchasing a SIM, particularly for an imported handset or an older backup phone. Ultra’s terms and device requirements and its current plans and features page provide the relevant carrier requirements.

What network and coverage does PayGo use?

Ultra’s current materials identify Ultra service as operating on T-Mobile’s network, with coverage and performance varying by location, device, congestion, and network conditions. Ultra advertises nationwide 5G/4G LTE coverage, but nationwide language does not mean every address or indoor location will have reliable service.

Check the intended address on Ultra’s coverage map before buying. MVNO service should not be assumed to have exactly the same priority or congestion performance as a T-Mobile postpaid line. PayGo is most sensible where T-Mobile coverage is already strong and the phone is compatible.

Does PayGo include roaming?

PayGo supports domestic roaming, but applicable domestic roaming charges come from the Wallet. Domestic roaming is therefore not the same as unlimited access to every available network.

International roaming supports voice, SMS, and MMS through Wallet funding, but PayGo does not include international data roaming. Check Ultra’s international roaming information for current destination rates before traveling, and disable data roaming unless you have deliberately confirmed the cost.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

International calling and international roaming are separate features. PayGo can call more than 200 international destinations from the United States, with rates determined by the destination, but that does not provide unlimited international calling or mobile data while abroad. The current PayGo information should be checked before making a long international call.

What PayGo passes are available?

PayGo offers short-term passes for temporary spikes in usage, including one-day and seven-day data, voice, and text options.

Pass Price Best use
500MB data for one day $5 A brief need for extra mobile data
1GB data for seven days $10 A short trip or temporary data increase
Unlimited voice and text for one day $2 A single high-use day
Unlimited voice and text for seven days $10 A temporary period of frequent calls and texts

These passes are useful occasionally, but frequent purchases change the economics of PayGo. An account must be active before passes can be used. Ultra’s current pass list is the source to check because prices and availability may change.

Can PayGo be used for hotspot?

Yes, PayGo supports mobile hotspot, but hotspot traffic consumes the same small data allowance as other data use. The 100MB included with the base plan, or data purchased through a pass, is not a separate unlimited hotspot allowance.

A laptop update, cloud backup, video call, or streaming session can use the available data quickly. If hotspot is a regular requirement, compare a conventional prepaid plan instead of treating PayGo as a low-cost replacement for home or travel internet.

Does PayGo support Wi-Fi Calling?

Ultra generally makes Wi-Fi Calling available, but device compatibility, account provisioning, Wi-Fi quality, and emergency-address requirements affect whether Wi-Fi Calling works. Wi-Fi Calling can help a compatible phone make calls indoors where cellular coverage is weak.

Wi-Fi Calling is not international roaming data. A customer traveling abroad still needs to understand how the device and account handle calls and messages over Wi-Fi, and should not assume that Wi-Fi Calling provides mobile data away from Wi-Fi. Ultra’s feature guidance and current plan information provide the applicable qualifications.

What can PayGo realistically do?

PayGo works best for basic calling, occasional texts, light email, and a phone that spends most of its time on Wi-Fi. The plan can be useful as a real cellular backup line even when the phone is rarely used.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

  • An emergency or outage backup phone.
  • A secondary line for occasional calls and texts.
  • A child’s very limited-use phone.
  • A senior’s phone when usage remains low.
  • A Wi-Fi-first smartphone that needs only occasional cellular connectivity.
  • A U.S. cellular number maintained while the owner travels or lives abroad, provided the Wallet and renewal status are actively monitored.

Use headroom rather than planning to consume exactly 100 minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB. A line that usually uses 80 or 90 percent of every allowance is more exposed to overages and unexpected background data.

What can PayGo not realistically do?

PayGo is a poor fit for regular cellular data, unlimited talk and text, routine hotspot use, or international travel data. A smartphone user can exceed the plan’s 100MB allowance without streaming video.

  • Streaming music or video over cellular data.
  • Frequent turn-by-turn navigation away from Wi-Fi.
  • Regular social-media browsing, photo backup, or app updates on cellular data.
  • Routine laptop hotspot use.
  • Many group or multimedia messages without monitoring usage.
  • Unlimited calling and texting.
  • International mobile data without a separate local SIM or travel eSIM.
  • Dependable high-priority data during network congestion.
  • A smartwatch or tablet line unless Ultra separately supports the specific device and arrangement.

On a smartphone, disable cellular background refresh, automatic updates, photo backup, and video autoplay. Set a device-level cellular-data warning or limit as an additional safeguard, while remembering that phone operating systems and data counters may not match carrier billing perfectly.

Who should use Ultra Mobile PayGo?

PayGo is most attractive when normal monthly use stays comfortably below 100 minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB of data and the customer wants a genuine cellular line. A practical low-use target is roughly under 50 minutes, 50 texts, and 50MB, leaving room for occasional surprises.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Reader profile Why PayGo may fit What to monitor
Emergency backup phone Low recurring base cost for a real cellular line Wallet balance, renewal, coverage, and phone battery
Wi-Fi-first user Most communication happens over Wi-Fi, so cellular use stays small Background data and occasional overages
Occasional caller 100 included minutes can cover infrequent calls Long calls and international rates
Secondary line A separate number is available without a large monthly allowance Number retention and suspension rules
U.S. number holder abroad Can maintain a U.S. cellular line with limited use No included international data roaming and Wallet-funded roaming

Who should avoid PayGo?

Users who regularly approach or exceed the 100/100/100 limits should compare a conventional low-cost prepaid plan instead. PayGo’s low base price can disappear when metered data, frequent passes, or repeated overages become normal.

  • Choose another plan if you routinely use several hundred megabytes of cellular data.
  • Choose another plan if unlimited talk and text are important.
  • Choose another plan if you dislike monitoring a Wallet or cannot reliably fund renewals.
  • Choose another plan if unused allowances need to roll over.
  • Choose another solution if you need included international data roaming.
  • Choose another solution if you need strong data priority during congestion.

PayGo is also not ideal for anyone seeking a completely predictable final bill. The $3 base price excludes taxes and fees, and usage-based charges can vary from cycle to cycle.

How does PayGo compare with alternatives?

PayGo has the lowest base cost among the options discussed, while Tello, US Mobile, and Red Pocket are more conventional choices for regular cellular use and Google Voice is a different, VoIP-based category. No alternative is universally better; the right choice depends on data use, network coverage, payment structure, and whether a real cellular line is required.

Option Best fit Main trade-off versus PayGo What to verify
Ultra Mobile PayGo Extremely light cellular use, backup lines, and Wi-Fi-first phones Only 100 minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB; metered overages and Wallet monitoring Taxes, coverage, phone compatibility, and current terms
Tello Customizable low-cost everyday service Usually costs more than PayGo’s $3 base Current prices, data allowance, eSIM support, and promotional terms
US Mobile More conventional prepaid service with more data or broader plan choice Higher monthly cost; plan details and taxes vary Exact plan, network, data, taxes, and checkout price
Red Pocket Readers comparing annual or low-cost prepaid plans Annual terms, promotions, and network availability vary Current annual price, network, renewal terms, and allowances
Google Voice or another VoIP service Calling and texting over Wi-Fi or another data connection Not a replacement for dependable cellular service; SMS verification and emergency expectations can differ Number type acceptance, emergency limitations, and off-Wi-Fi connectivity

US Mobile’s current plans page displays low-cost options beginning around $6.50 per month, with another low-cost option shown at $8 per month. Tello’s current positioning emphasizes customizable plans, eSIM support, Pay-As-You-Go credit, and international calling features. Those figures and offerings can change, so verify the exact plan at checkout rather than treating a displayed price as a permanent market ranking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Tello may be a better fit when the customer needs more texts, minutes, or data without paying for a larger traditional carrier plan. US Mobile may be a better fit when the customer wants a more conventional monthly structure. Red Pocket deserves consideration when an annual plan or a different underlying network is important. Google Voice may be sufficient when the reader needs only a Wi-Fi-based number and accepts VoIP limitations.

What are the most common PayGo mistakes?

Confusing PayGo with unlimited service

PayGo is not a $3 unlimited plan. The base allowances are 100 minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB, followed by metered charges.

Forgetting taxes and fees

The advertised $3 is the pre-tax base price. The final charge depends on the customer’s location and applicable fees.

Letting background data consume the allowance

Automatic updates, photo backups, synchronization, navigation, and social feeds can use 100MB quickly. Configure the phone before trusting PayGo as a smartphone line.

Allowing the Wallet to fall below $3

A shortfall suspends the account and can eventually lead to cancellation and forfeiture of the remaining balance under the terms. Add funds before renewal.

Buying a pass while the account is suspended

Ultra says PayGo passes work only on active accounts. Restore service first.

Assuming every unlocked phone works

Compatibility also requires appropriate LTE or 5G bands, VoLTE support, SIM or eSIM compatibility, and carrier provisioning.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confusing international calling with international roaming

PayGo supports calls to more than 200 international destinations at destination-based rates, but international data roaming is not included.

Porting a number after cancelling the old account

Keep the old carrier service active until the transfer completes, and verify the account number, transfer PIN, and billing ZIP code.

Which option should you choose?

Choose PayGo if your use stays well below 100 minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB, T-Mobile coverage works at your locations, and you can monitor the Wallet.

  • Choose Ultra Mobile PayGo for a real cellular backup, emergency line, occasional-use phone, or Wi-Fi-first device.
  • Choose Tello when you want a flexible low-cost plan with more ordinary smartphone capacity.
  • Choose US Mobile when you want a more conventional prepaid plan and need more data or a larger allowance.
  • Compare Red Pocket when annual pricing or network selection may suit your usage.
  • Choose Google Voice or another VoIP option only when a cellular connection is unnecessary and the service’s SMS, emergency, and off-Wi-Fi limitations are acceptable.

PayGo is compelling because the base charge is unusually low, not because the plan provides a normal smartphone experience for $3. The decisive question is whether your real monthly usage remains small enough that overages, passes, taxes, and Wallet management do not erase the savings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ultra Mobile PayGo really only $3 per month?

Ultra Mobile PayGo has a $3 base charge for each 30-day service cycle, before taxes and fees. The $3 charge still applies even if the line is used very little, and metered charges apply after the included allowances are exhausted.

Can I keep my phone number with Ultra Mobile PayGo?

You can request to port an eligible existing number to Ultra Mobile PayGo, but porting is not guaranteed for every number. Keep the old carrier active and provide the correct account number, transfer PIN, and billing ZIP code until the port completes.

Does Ultra Mobile PayGo include international data?

Ultra Mobile PayGo does not include international data roaming. International voice, SMS, and MMS roaming can use Wallet funds, so travelers should check current destination rates and consider a local SIM or travel eSIM for data.

Is PayGo good for a smartphone?

PayGo can work for a smartphone used mostly on Wi-Fi, but its included cellular data is only 100MB per 30-day cycle. Regular navigation, social media, app updates, photo backups, streaming, or hotspot use can exceed that allowance quickly.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Ultra Mobile PayGo is a legitimate, unusually inexpensive cellular plan for extremely light use: $3 per 30-day cycle before taxes and fees, with 100 minutes, 100 texts, and 100MB of data. Choose it for a backup or Wi-Fi-first line; choose conventional prepaid service for regular data, predictable usage, or unlimited talk and text.
