Uber and NVIDIA are targeting a global fleet of 100,000 autonomous vehicles over time, with scaling planned to begin in 2027. That is a long-term target, not a promise that 100,000 robotaxis will be operating by a specific date. A later plan names Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area for the first half of 2027, followed by a planned expansion to 28 cities across four continents by 2028.
What Uber and NVIDIA announced
The companies announced their partnership on October 28, 2025. Uber said it would start scaling a global autonomous fleet in 2027, targeting 100,000 vehicles over time. The announcement did not set a date for reaching that total. Uber’s announcement and NVIDIA’s announcement describe a planned deployment, not completed vehicle deliveries or a fleet already in service.
On March 16, 2026, the companies added a more specific geographic schedule: begin the expanded service rollout in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area in the first half of 2027, then scale to 28 cities globally by 2028. Uber describes the intended operations as spanning North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. This city count and schedule do not establish that the 100,000-vehicle target will be reached by 2028. When will Uber have 100,000 robotaxis?
There is no announced completion date for the 100,000 vehicles. Uber and NVIDIA said scaling would start in 2027 and described 100,000 as a target over time. The separate 2028 milestone concerns a planned presence in 28 cities, not a stated number of vehicles in operation. A city rollout milestone and a fleet-size target measure different things.

Which cities get Uber robotaxis first?
The March 2026 plan names Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area for the first half of 2027. It does not provide a complete list of the other cities intended for the 28-city expansion by 2028, nor does it specify a launch date for each one.
The planned introduction in each city has three stages:
Rank #2
- Opening parts and rolling wheels
- Easy assembly, pre-painted metal body
- When finished the vehicles are fully functional
- Rolling diecast replica
- Skill level: intermediate
- Local data collection: Vehicles gather information about local driving conditions to help train the autonomy system.
- Operator-led launch: The service begins with operators involved in the deployment.
- Driverless Level 4 operations: The plan is to transition to fully driverless service after the earlier stages.
These are planned steps, not evidence that driverless service is currently available in either named market. Uber’s rollout announcement
What each company is expected to contribute
Uber: marketplace and fleet operations
Uber said it would integrate the vehicles into its marketplace and handle operational work including remote assistance, charging, cleaning, maintenance and customer support. It also announced a plan to collect more than 3 million hours of robotaxi-specific driving data for Level 4 model training and validation. That figure is a planned collection target, not a report of data already gathered. Uber’s October 2025 announcement

NVIDIA: vehicle technology and development tools
The original announcement identified NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 as a modular computing and sensor architecture, and NVIDIA DRIVE AV as its full-stack Level 4 software. NVIDIA also said it would provide GPUs, Cosmos and tools for data curation, search, simulation and ongoing autonomy-stack improvement. The companies positioned these as parts of a development and deployment program; the announcement is not independent verification of system performance.
NVIDIA later renamed DRIVE Hyperion to NVIDIA Hyperion in its newsroom material. The historic product name is relevant to the 2025 announcement; the newer name reflects NVIDIA’s later terminology. NVIDIA describes the current Hyperion platform as combining DRIVE AGX in-vehicle compute, its Halos safety system and software foundation, compatible sensors, and DRIVE AV. The March 2026 rollout announcement also identifies NVIDIA Alpamayo as central to its autonomous-driving development plan. NVIDIA describes Alpamayo as an open portfolio of AI models, simulation frameworks and datasets for AV development; that description is the company’s characterization, not independently demonstrated evidence of the planned Uber service’s capabilities. Vehicle supply and the wider partner network
Uber said Stellantis would be among the first automakers to deliver at least 5,000 NVIDIA-powered Level 4 vehicles for Uber robotaxi operations in the United States and internationally. This is an announced supply plan; the release does not say those vehicles have been delivered. Uber’s announcement

The October 2025 partnership announcement also named Aurora, Avride, May Mobility, Momenta, Motional, Nuro, Pony.ai, Waabi, Wayve and WeRide in NVIDIA’s broader Level 4 ecosystem, covering passenger mobility, trucking and delivery. Stellantis, Lucid and Mercedes-Benz were named among vehicle collaborators. Their inclusion does not mean every company is supplying vehicles for Uber’s specific 28-city robotaxi plan.

No. The company announcements describe targets and future rollout stages; they do not establish that 100,000 vehicles have been delivered or that service is operating in 28 cities. Separately, Axios reported on September 23, 2026, that Uber AV Labs was deploying up to 500 specially equipped Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles for data collection and had agreements to provide data to NVIDIA and Wayve. That reported research fleet is not a count of commercial robotaxis or proof that the larger rollout has launched. Axios’s report
A separate Uber robotaxi plan in Munich
In June 2026, Uber and Autobrains announced a separate Munich robotaxi program using Uber’s ride-hailing platform, Autobrains’ autonomous-driving technology and NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion. The release said deployment was pending regulatory approval and did not name the automaker; NVIDIA said more information about the automaker was expected later in 2026. This Munich program is distinct from the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area rollout plan and its 28-city expansion. Uber’s Munich announcement NVIDIA’s Munich announcement
