Toastie does not have a verified two-iPhone multiplayer setup. Its official App Store materials describe a solo grilled-cheese game with Game Center leaderboards and achievements plus iCloud progress syncing across your own devices, but they do not document a host screen, join code, phone pairing, or synchronized local match. Two people can still play a fair side-by-side challenge: install the game on compatible iPhones, start the same recipe manually, cook independently, and compare the resulting score cards. That is an informal house rule, not built-in local multiplayer.
This guide shows exactly what each player needs, how a Toastie order works, what the score card measures, and why Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Game Center, iCloud, and the optional iPhone Duo do not turn two ordinary iPhones into one shared match.
Is Toastie multiplayer between two iPhones?
No verified two-iPhone multiplayer setup is documented for Toastie. The official US App Store description identifies individual order scoring, Game Center leaderboards and achievements, and iCloud progress sync, but it does not show a host/join screen, local room, invitation flow, or phone-to-phone match.

| What you want to do | What the official material establishes | Practical result |
|---|---|---|
| Join one synchronized match on two iPhones | No host, join, pairing, or room procedure is documented | No verified setup |
| Play the same recipes at the same time | Each phone can run its own game on a compatible device | Works as a manually coordinated challenge |
| Compare performance globally | Game Center supports leaderboards and achievements | Useful for rankings, not a shared live round |
| Continue one player’s progress on another device | The listing says progress syncs with iCloud across your devices | Progress continuity, not multiplayer |
The reliable distinction is two people independently playing the same game versus two devices joined to one match. Toastie’s documented features support the first situation, not the second.
What do you need on each iPhone?
For the side-by-side workaround, each person needs an iPhone that meets the listing’s operating-system requirement and a copy of Toastie. The US App Store listing showed a $2.99 price when checked, with no ads or in-app purchases listed. Prices and availability can change, so verify the listing before downloading.
| Requirement | Current information | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | iOS 18.0 or later | Applies to the ordinary iPhone installation described by the listing |
| App price | $2.99 in the US listing | Price observed at the research date; recheck at purchase |
| Family Sharing | Up to six family members indicated | Do not assume unrelated Apple Accounts can share one purchase |
| Base game content | 10 standard recipes and 14 ingredients | Halloween additions are listed separately in version 1.2.1 notes |
| Ads and in-app purchases | None listed | Store disclosures can change |
| Checked listing version | Version 1.2.1 | US listing observed October 29, 2026 |
Toastie also runs on iPads, but an iPad does not create a connection between two iPhones. The two-phone instructions below assume both players are using their own devices and Apple Accounts.

How do you set up a two-person Toastie challenge?
Set up both phones independently, then agree on a recipe and scoring rule before either player starts. The following sequence creates comparable rounds without pretending that Toastie is synchronizing the devices.
- Check compatibility. On each iPhone, open Settings > General > Software Update and confirm that the phone can run iOS 18.0 or later. Install any required update before opening the App Store.
- Get Toastie on both phones. Search for Toastie in the App Store and confirm that each player has access to the app. The US listing showed $2.99 when checked; Family Sharing is indicated for up to six family members, but Apple Account eligibility for people outside one family should not be assumed.
- Open the app separately. Launch Toastie on each phone. There is no documented step to create a room, invite the other player, scan a code, or pair the devices.
- Choose the same target. Agree on one recipe, the number of rounds, and how you will handle ties. Using the same recipe removes a content difference from the comparison; it does not make the rounds synchronized.
- Start together by countdown. One player can count down “three, two, one,” after both phones show the chosen order. This is a household coordination rule, not a Toastie multiplayer command.
- Play the order on each phone. Each person completes the build, presses GRILL, closes the on-screen lid, opens it at the appropriate point, and serves independently.
- Record the cards. Keep each score card visible until both players have noted the recipe, plating, toasting, and preparation-time results. Decide in advance whether the winner is the highest total, the most stars, or the best aggregate across several rounds.
- Repeat without changing the rule. Toastie lists four stars as the threshold to unlock the next recipe. If you are comparing progression, use the same number of attempts for each person rather than letting one player retry indefinitely.
Starting at the same moment can make the activity feel like a duel, but the phones are not exchanging game state. A delay, different loading time, or one player’s pause does not affect the other player’s round.
How does a Toastie order work on each phone?
Every player follows the same build–grill–serve loop. The documented 15-second limit applies to assembling an order; it is not a published cooking-time target for the grill phase.

1. Assemble within the preparation window
Use a finger to butter the bread, then drag cheese and fillings onto it. The App Store description gives 15 seconds to assemble an order. Treat that as the preparation countdown, separate from the later toasting stage.

2. Press GRILL and close the virtual lid
When the build is ready, press GRILL and close the on-screen lid on an ordinary iPhone. The developer’s website describes the cooking phase with the sentence, “No timer. Just the sizzle and the lamp.” In other words, do not look for a displayed grill countdown or assume that the 15-second assembly figure tells you when to open the toastie.
3. Open at the right moment
Use the cooking cues in the app—the sizzle and lamp described by the developer—to judge when to open the lid. Because each person is cooking on a separate device, one player opening early does not stop or alter the other player’s grill phase.
4. Serve and read the card
Serve the finished toastie to receive the individual result. The score card assesses the recipe, plating, toasting, and preparation time. Five stars turn a score card gold, while four stars unlock the next recipe according to the App Store description.
How should two players compare Toastie scores?
Use the score card as the common record rather than trying to infer a winner from cooking speed alone. Toastie evaluates several aspects of an order, so a player who assembles quickly may still lose points through recipe choice, plating, or toasting.

For a short challenge, compare the total stars from the same recipe. For a longer challenge, assign one point for each round win and use the final star total as a tiebreaker. Write down the recipe and card result after every round so a later retry does not replace the original result.

A simple house-rule format
- Pick one recipe that both phones have unlocked.
- Use a shared countdown to begin assembly.
- Allow one attempt per round.
- Compare the four score-card categories first, then total stars.
- Play three or five rounds and alternate who calls the countdown.
This format gives you a repeatable competition while remaining honest about what the app is doing: two separate solo rounds, not a synchronized local match.
Can two iPhones connect to Toastie with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi?
There is no verified Toastie procedure for Bluetooth, shared Wi-Fi, AirDrop, QR-code pairing, or an in-app host-and-join room. Do not enter either phone’s Bluetooth settings or create a personal hotspot expecting Toastie to discover the other device; the official materials do not identify such a connection method.
Apple’s general instructions for inviting friends or using SharePlay apply only when a particular game supports those functions. They are not evidence that Toastie supports them. If a future Toastie update adds a documented connection feature, follow that release’s instructions rather than relying on generic multiplayer steps.
What happens if the phones are on different networks?
For the side-by-side challenge, network matching is irrelevant because the rounds are independent. Each phone may use its own Wi-Fi or cellular connection for ordinary App Store and iCloud functions, but changing networks will not create a shared Toastie session.
Does Game Center mean two people can play together?
No. Toastie’s listed Game Center support is for leaderboards and achievements. Those features can let players compare standings or earn awards, but they are not a Toastie invitation, room, or live two-device match.
If both players use Game Center, make sure each person understands what is being compared. A leaderboard entry reflects a submitted score or achievement; it does not show that both players cooked one order together or that one phone controlled the other.

Does iCloud progress sync make Toastie multiplayer?
No. The official listing says, “Your progress syncs with iCloud across your devices.” That wording refers to one player carrying progress between that person’s devices. It does not describe sharing a recipe, score, unlocked content, or live round with another player.
Keep separate Apple Accounts and Game Center identities if you want clean individual records. Signing into the same account on two people’s phones could blur whose progress or achievements are being recorded, without adding any multiplayer capability.
Do you need an iPhone Duo?
No. Toastie works on ordinary iPhones and iPads. The iPhone Duo is an optional one-device control: folding that single device shuts the virtual toaster lid, and opening it checks the toastie.
Two ordinary iPhones do not reproduce that physical-fold interaction. Each player uses the on-screen lid on their own phone, and owning an iPhone Duo does not connect it to a second iPhone or unlock a multiplayer mode. If your only goal is a two-person Toastie challenge, the Duo is unnecessary overkill; the side-by-side method works with compatible ordinary devices.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What changed in Toastie version 1.2.1?
The US App Store listing observed October 29, 2026, showed version 1.2.1. Its release notes add three Halloween toasties and a Game Center award. Those additions are separate from the base description of 10 standard recipes and 14 ingredients, so do not silently count the seasonal recipes as part of the standard-menu figure.
A developer response discussed a forthcoming freestyle mode. Treat that as planned rather than released unless a newer version’s release notes explicitly say it is available. Version numbers, seasonal content, price, and feature availability should be rechecked in the App Store before publication or purchase.

What should you do if the two-phone challenge does not match?
Most mismatches come from setup or from treating independent rounds as synchronized. Check these points before assuming the app is malfunctioning.
- One phone cannot install the app: verify that it can run iOS 18.0 or later and install available system updates.
- The recipes differ: confirm that both players are using the same app version and that the chosen recipe is unlocked on both phones. Four stars are required to unlock the next recipe in the listed progression.
- One player sees different seasonal content: compare the version number; version 1.2.1 adds three Halloween toasties, which may not appear on an older installation.
- Scores seem impossible to compare: confirm that both players used the same recipe, one attempt, and the same agreed winner rule. A countdown does not synchronize the game engines.
- Progress appears on the wrong device: check which Apple Account and iCloud identity each phone uses. iCloud is for a player’s own devices, not for merging two players’ records.
- You expected a live invitation: look for an official Toastie update that explicitly documents rooms, pairing, or SharePlay. The currently described feature set does not provide those controls.
- A purchase is unavailable to the second player: review Apple Family Sharing eligibility. The listing indicates sharing with up to six family members, but that does not promise sharing with unrelated accounts.
The app’s privacy disclosure is developer-reported and explicitly not verified by Apple. That disclosure does not change the multiplayer answer, but it is worth reading on the current store page if account or data handling matters to your household.
How should you choose another game for true two-phone play?
If you need one shared match rather than a house-rule contest, choose a game whose own documentation explicitly describes cross-device play. Before downloading, look for four concrete details.

- Turn synchronization: determine whether both players act at once, take turns, or can pause independently.
- Result handling: check whether the game records a shared match result, uses a leaderboard, or merely lets players submit separate scores.
Toastie satisfies the device requirement for compatible phones and offers score cards, leaderboards, and achievements, but its published materials do not supply the connection or synchronized-turn details needed to call it local multiplayer.
What is the final answer for two iPhones?
There is no verified way to pair two iPhones for one Toastie match. Install Toastie separately on two iOS 18.0-or-later devices, choose the same recipe, count down, complete the build–GRILL–serve sequence on each phone, and compare the score cards. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Game Center, iCloud, and the iPhone Duo each have different documented roles; none is a published two-iPhone multiplayer solution.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use SharePlay to play Toastie with a friend?
The available Toastie materials do not document SharePlay support. Apple’s general SharePlay guidance only applies when the individual game advertises that feature, so it should not be treated as a Toastie setup method.
Will Toastie progress merge if two people use one Apple Account?
The listing describes iCloud syncing across one player’s devices, not merging two players’ saves. Using one account could make records and achievements unclear without adding a shared match.
Are the Halloween toasties included in the original 10 recipes?
No. The standard description lists 10 recipes, while version 1.2.1 release notes separately add three Halloween toasties. Check the installed version and current store notes to see which seasonal items are available.
Can we compare Toastie results without internet access?
A manually coordinated challenge does not require the phones to exchange data; each person can play a local round and compare cards afterward. App installation, updates, and any Game Center or iCloud activity may still require connectivity.
